Previous thread

What will tomorrow bring for Kate? Does her love for green know no end?

And Thursday night sees the return of Meghan! I know she can be polarising so let's stick to just discussing her clothes rather than the intricacies of Megxit. There's plenty of other threads to do that!

I have been reading it for over a year @thisenglishlife and I stand by my comments.

I like the constructive critism and I like seeing what other posters think of the clothes, this is why I like reading this thread.
However I have to disagree that regular posters have "only joked" about things as that is not the case at all.
I have seen regular posters comment some really mean things and some of those "jokes" would be very hurtful if said to someone's face imo.

I just don't get why the posters who are quick to jump to Meghans defence (rightly so) can't offer the same for Kate.

I mean someone called her "dim" yesterday and not one regular poster said anything about such a nasty comment.

I just think it smacks of hypocrisy.

Spudlet · 06/03/2020 16:10

I think that white outfit on M is pretty. I would personally find the sleeves annoying but it is a very pretty look.

I agree about the Pakistan tour wardrobe - with the exception of the leather waistcoat look, I liked most of the clothes. The green sparkly evening dress was particularly good!

GlamGiraffe · 06/03/2020 16:10

Only just tuned in (quite sure that's not the correct phrase, but anyway...)
I always love Kate's clothes but I do think she must have gone completely bonkers, how much green can a woman wear!
Also the shorter hair. Whenever shes done things to her hair of had strange fashion moments in the past it's always been a decoy to distract from the fact shes been pregnant (before the voms kick in)! The hair was the first thing that made me wonder!!
And as may have been noticed before I am totally not a fan of Megan's clothes normally but I actually thought the blue dress looked very nice on her. I did think it was way too much make up for my liking (and definitely a few more wrinkles showing-the joys of how a baby can instantly change your appearance 😂😂😂) though!!

AudacityOfHope · 06/03/2020 16:12

Actually I didn't. I'll say it again. I say her crazy literal dressing 'makes her seem dim'. If you think that's the worst I could say about a person you've led a sheltered life. And if you think you're going to shame me somehow, it's not working.

Nobody is under any obligation to apologies for sharing their opinion. It's not the sycophancy section. You can probably go to the Royals board for that.

Spudlet · 06/03/2020 16:13

Although actually, I think even the leather waistcoat look would have been saved with a pretty coloured shirt (I’m thinking a sort of gentle peppermint green) and, erm, no leather waistcoat. Just the skirt and a nicer blouse. The scarf over the shoulder could have stayed, that was a nice touch, I thought.

AudacityOfHope · 06/03/2020 16:13

Apologise, not apologies, my cat bit me mid-type Grin

Lunde · 06/03/2020 16:21

In defence of Kate's leather waistcoat look - I'm pretty sure that outfit was an attempt at royal camouflage - they were right on the border with Afghanistan. A security nightmare for potential snipers if she wore any bright coloured clothing.

Spudlet · 06/03/2020 16:23

Oh yes, that is true - good point! And actually to go back to what I said earlier - doesn’t that just go to show the number of things they have to consider that most people don’t when they get dressed?! Snipers didn’t even cross my mind, but you’re quite probably right!

I still think she could have ditched the waistcoat though Grin

QueenOfTheAndals · 06/03/2020 16:27

Not these days @AudacityOfHope!

I dunno, I don't venture over the way Grin

thisenglishlife · 06/03/2020 16:36

If you've been reading these threads for a while @allibaby then it's unfair to say regular posters here are nasty about Kate.

The Meghan situation was different, as some of the comments were very unpleasant, about all aspects of her and her life. Those posters left, some to start worse threads elsewhere on this site.

I think the reoccurring 'worst' comments have been that Kate is dressing older then her age at times and others have defended this (posterity, protocol, appropriateness, professionalism, etc). I don't think saying she looks better with shorter hair or shorter hemlines or whatever is 'tearing her to shreds'.

If you think that certain posts or posters are out of order, please say... but do not say these threads are horrible. Also, feel free to post Royal photos or information here, I have learnt lots and gained some outfit inspiration!

Lunde · 06/03/2020 16:39

It seems like I'm a lone voice but I don't really like Meghan's outfit today. I think all white, especially slightly different shades of white are not terribly flattering on anyone. Again there is bunching around the waist. I think that each piece would have been fine on their own but not together as the mess, buttons and zig-zag pattern all look a bit fussy together.

The blouse is not as simple or sleek as Meghan's normal style - it actually looks more like something Kate would wear - I think it would have looked better with dark trousers or a skirt. The skirt IMHO would look better with a short-sleeved, v or scoop necked jumper or vest in a different colour.

Oh and while on the subject of tailoring I think that Kate should get some blazers or jackets made to measure if she is going to wear them. Kate has the opposite problem to Meghan by being long waisted and often the waist of the jacket sits highand above her waist. The longer jackets that she wore recently looked good though.

SenecaFallsRedux · 06/03/2020 16:43

Also, as to the dim comment, it was "seem dim" not "is dim" and there is a difference. I think we all know that Kate is accomplished and intelligent. But she does seem possibly to miss some cultural nuances regarding attire in parts of the UK.

ElspethFlashman · 06/03/2020 16:44

You're not a lone voice, cos I think she looks like she's wrapped a bath towel around herself.

QueenOfTheAndals · 06/03/2020 16:48

I'm not super keen on Meghan's white ensemble either, is the skirt meant to sit that high? It's also a very summery choice for this time of year!

QueenOfTheAndals · 06/03/2020 16:49

I'd like to see what she wore to the school yesterday, it looked like black trousers and a white blazer.

thisenglishlife · 06/03/2020 16:53

Blazer Kate (I have posted this previously).

My favourite two are the white one (Zara, I think) and the light green Ralph Lauren riding jacket (on the bottom far left) - she looks very fresh and natural there.

Others in the photo - she has at least three Smythe blazers (navy, dark khaki and grey print), they renamed the style as 'Duchess'. She has two of the Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini double-breasted blazer (in red and light blue).

AudacityOfHope · 06/03/2020 16:54

It really does look like a bath tower wrapped around Confused I wonder if it's a spectacularly bad photo?

Lunde · 06/03/2020 16:54

Spudlet - I still think she could have ditched the waistcoat though grin

Actually - when I saw the waistcoat my first thought was that it might have had a bullet proof lining . You can get bulletproof leather jackets (see 1st picture). William's torso was rather bulky that day and may have concealed a lightweight bullet proof vest.

Re the 'nightie' worn by Queen Mathilde . The flounce and frill remind me rather too much and 1970s styles like these:

frugalkitty · 06/03/2020 16:56

Two of my favourite Meghan outfits. Love a bit a asymmetry. I'm still fond of the Pom Pom dress too although I think I was the only one.

I'd also like to see proper photos of the outfit she wore to the school, I like her in trousers she looks really 'sharp' in them.

@AudacityOfHope
You might not be ashamed but you should be.
I guess some people need to be bitchy about others to make themselves feel better.
Knock yourself out.

QueenOfTheAndals · 06/03/2020 16:59

@thisenglishlife I had that Zara blazer until I stupidly packed it in a suitcase with a bottle of red wine. The inevitable ensued and the blazer was binned...

theschoolonthehill · 06/03/2020 17:00

Kate isn’t the only one of her generation in the RF. Sophie is older but not in the Queen’s age bracket! Autumn, Zara too.

The frock dresses should be burned.

Knee length or slightly below the knee lengths are better on her than above the knee frilled skirts she favours.

I can’t see much wrong with saying she dresses quite badly. In the plus side when she does get it right, she has people falling over themselves to flatter her.

It’s ok not to agree.

AudacityOfHope · 06/03/2020 17:00

Grin alright love
