Work blouses- The Split

Rosehipbubbles · 15/02/2020 08:25

I love a good work outfit and with broad shoulders my go to look is blouses. Loving the S2 clothes but my Twitter searching is proving fruitless as to where the clothes are from. I expect they are all £££ but would love to know as I'm getting the twitch to buy some new ones.

I think quite a lot of her clothes look Hugo Boss-ish to me - they do a lot of tasteful trousers and blouses. Dresses are very similar to The Fold & Libby of London.

We started watching S1 yesterday: questions we had were who does their childcare? There should be frantic hand overs to the nanny or at least an au pair. Why is she pretending to catch public transport in those heels? At least get into an Uber, no one is risking those heels in a tube escalator.

Also, can a mum/daughter or sister/sister really be opposing counsel? Surely they’d have to declare that rather than coyly saying “the other side will probably use this tactic”. Wouldn’t you think that was weird as a client?

The building she works in is Slater & Gordon on High Holborn. I’ve never had anything to do with them but it looks like they may have used their client meeting room floor for filming her “office”. Working floors are usually less glam!

There's a lot of Roland Mouret/ Alexander McQueen. Obviously £££. By way of example, this is one of Hannah's skirts:

www.theoutnet.com/en-gb/shop/product/roland-mouret/skirts/knee-length-skirt/arreton-cloque-pencil-skirt/5756269973109149

There's some Erdem in there too.

Similar stuff at Cefinn, the Fold, but again quite ££.

I too love a silk shirt!

Rosehipbubbles · 16/02/2020 11:27

Can you imagine the weekly dry cleaning bill Shock

nowlook · 16/02/2020 11:27

Sorry, @Rosehipbubbles, I was so busy banging on about Roland Mouret that I forgot to say where I buy silk shirts. Often on ebay, but brands that work for me are:

Pure Collection
Joseph
Equipment
Paul Smith
Jigsaw

I do particularly well with Pure Collection because they're not ridiculously priced to begin with and not as many people bidding for them ;-)

I've also recently found a brand called Mercy Delta, but haven't bought anything yet.

When I'm looking for new stuff, I cheat by starting with The Dressing Room, St Albans, website. Again, never ordered from there, not from the area, but they win industry awards for their curated collections.

Thank you for the tip - I’ll have to check it out.

I think some of her dresses may be by Goat, as well. They do lovely dresses.

Cookit · 16/02/2020 12:16

I LOVE The Split

But yes

I love the clothes, but my main problem is they say they’re leaving ‘late’ but still commute home, get changed, have a meal with the kids and wider family, clear up, chat and then faff about getting ready for bed. What time IS it?

How does she have time for an affair? Particularly when it looks like a spent serious time at his, enough to keep a book and face cream. She works hard, has an affair, sees her kids, goes to parents evenings and often has family meals - how?!

I like Nina’s hair but not her weird clothes. Also we’ve not seen Nina work much?

nowlook · 16/02/2020 12:28

@jcurve Absolutely. I have a slightly a-line Goat dress (with pockets) from the Outnet. They're fab (but not if I'm premenstrual, because then the pockets bulge)

Herocomplex · 16/02/2020 12:29

And at the beginning of the series they were in Hampstead Heath at 7am and Hannah had already been for a swim. She’s what 38? And she never once says she’s tired!!!!

And who takes a novel to read in bed at their lover’s house?!?!

Again, I’m over invested and deeply envious of their house. Deeply.

happinessischocolate · 16/02/2020 12:39

We started watching S1 yesterday: questions we had were who does their childcare? There should be frantic hand overs to the nanny or at least an au pair.

They're not babies, they get themselves, up, dressed and out the door with the usual parental nagging and the older daughter is 17/18 so plenty old enough to be keeping an eye in her younger siblings after school. In S2 she even cooks the dinner one night.

nowlook · 16/02/2020 12:42

@happinessischocolate

I related to the eldest daughter cooking the dinner. After she'd been busted for sending selfies to the Spanish teacher Grin

Herocomplex · 16/02/2020 12:44

Sorry I think I derailed the thread, I haven’t mentioned work blouses!

(Nathan’s junior was wearing a Toast shirt though, I’m fairly sure.)

nowlook · 16/02/2020 12:49

Happily, this is S&B, rather than Telly Addicts. But, while we're ranting:

  • Where is all the paper in the office? The only time we see paper is where the other side is presented with a document during a meeting. No suggestion of emailing it first. Other side seem to be OK with that, for some reason. And there is only one other family law firm in the whole of London, apparently.
  • What are Nina's billable hours? We only ever see her acting as a junior to another member of the family/nicking clothes/moaning in the loos.
  • Where are all the associates? It's got to be a huge firm, but all meetings are attended by 2-3 senior partners.

-Instructing counsel seems to be very straightforward. Does Nathan not have a clerk at all?

jcurve · 16/02/2020 12:50

@happinessischocolate that assumes that neither the little ones nor the older one does any after school activities, has an appointment, etc that needs travel. They’re at different schools, so who picks up the primary aged children?

It’s just completely infeasible based on my experience of the City and certainly the dual lawyer couples I know - it’s private school with wrap around care OR paid help to do 2 jobs like that.

GalactiCat · 16/02/2020 13:20

I got a necklace on the back of seeing it on The Split 1 Grin

Cookit · 16/02/2020 13:42

She’s what 38? And she never once says she’s tired!!!!
No way, they got married 20 years a go and that was after law school so I was thinking 43 or so?
It is definitely made out they were young getting married but not pre-university just finished school young.

She surely has to be early to mid forties.
Actually I think they mention how much older she is than Nina at one point and Nina is 35?

BloomedAgain · 16/02/2020 13:53

I had a Michael by Michael Kors silk shirt (lost in a lost luggage incident) which was on a par with my Equipment shirts. I'm always stalking ebay for a replacement.
Which necklace did you get galacticat?

Herocomplex · 16/02/2020 13:55

You’re right Cookit, over 40.

beanaseireann · 16/02/2020 15:26

Nothing can beat Gillian Anderson's wardrobe in The Fall.
Those silk shirts....

TulipCat · 16/02/2020 15:41

I reckon Rose shops at Hush, Nina at Karen Millen and Hannah at LK Bennett.

Herocomplex · 16/02/2020 16:00

beanas except her wardrobe in Sex Education series 2. Theres a blue silk velvet dress that I would crawl over sharp objects (Lego bricks perhaps) to own and look like she does.

WhatWouldPennyDo · 16/02/2020 16:05

Agreed @beanaseireann - Stella had my favourite character wardrobe ever!

Rosehipbubbles · 16/02/2020 17:17

Gillian Anderson looks amazing always - I did lust after The Fall outfits too.

OP posts:
EnidButton · 16/02/2020 19:01

She’s what 38?

48 surely? The actress is 49.

They do have nice wardrobes. The men included. But it's the huge immaculate houses I can't get over.

LizziesTwin · 16/02/2020 19:15

Gillian Anderson is 51.

EnidButton · 16/02/2020 19:30

Lizzie I was talking about Hannah from The Split. Smile

Gillian Anderson is a Knock out in anything but her outfits in Sex Ed are especially good.
