Anything you have found a waste of money and wish you didn’t purchase, I’ll start Kevin A contour pallet! Looks grey on my face

Profilo did nothing for me.

Nuface also did nothing for me and got sent back.

C e feurulic vit c. Ridiculously expensive and made no discernible difference to my skin.

Tartyflette · 13/02/2020 20:59

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream is really odd, it feels stiff and goes on badly, leaves your skin feeling dry and tight.
But perhaps that's what it's supposed to do?
Sadly it doesn't seem to make much difference to how your skin actually looks which i thought was sort of the point of it...

emma6776 · 13/02/2020 20:59

Massive fan of Clarins Flash Balm and EA 8 hour cream here.

The worst product I bought was an Hourglass eyeliner - it kept breaking and I gave up in the end. Also Kiehls avocado eye cream - uttter shite. Also every foundation I’ve ever bought from Harvey Nics - why they insist on colour matching 10 shades darker!

Tartyflette · 13/02/2020 21:01

By Terry -- don't get the hype at all. I'm using it as i spent £££ but it is underwhelming.
(CC cream and brightening serum]

YouNoNothinJS1 · 13/02/2020 21:16

Has anyone had a good experience with Huda beauty? I got there foundation in to shades but neither looked right wasn’t sure if it was the foundation tempted to try for a third shade?

Charlotte Tilbury Cream brought me out in spots

Liquid Gold gave me a patch of broken capillaries Sad

Bare minerals powders all set in the hollow bit underneath my cheekbones, in a weird bronze glittery patch (I may just be crap at applying it)

I love Kerastase shampoos and hair products though. Also love anything REN

GlamGiraffe · 13/02/2020 21:27

@Annasgirl
You have definitely been given the wrong bar minerals product. Take it back. I've used it for years and its invisible and totally sheer. You either have completely the wrong colour or they havent told you how to put it on properly. The primer makes it better but I use it without and it never looks cakes or pale. Which one did you buy? Original or Matt? Maybe its worth another try? Some of the assistants are rubbish. You need the merest touch to get a perfect coverage. I recommend it enormously and theres very little I think is good.

GlamGiraffe · 13/02/2020 21:37

I'm suspecting a confusion with bare minerals as theres more than 1 comment.
Tip a tiny bit in the lid
Turn the brush round in the lid then tap most of the powder off the brush.
Start to ho round and round in circles on the face like you are deeply buffing not like you are brushing the product on. You might need a 2nd dip for the second half of the face. You are never brushing the product on,always polishing it in thtoughly in circles to all nooks and crannies. There is no way you should ever have any laying on your skin in patches described by a pp.
There are so many colours available too there is no excuse for a shop se

GlamGiraffe · 13/02/2020 21:38

Sorry, posted by toddler🙄
Shops now have an enormous range of colours they should have colours appropriate for most people.

BetterWithCheddar · 13/02/2020 21:46

I'm another fan of The Ordinary although I also mix with NIOD (the more expensive range). The Alpha Arbutin is sorting out my pigmentation and overall my skin hasn't looked this good in years!! But the NIOD products are nowhere near as cheap.

Shookethtothecore · 13/02/2020 21:46

I loved my job on the cosmetics counter- I would give honest advice and if I couldn’t help I would send to another counter, we had so much training and really took pride in what we do. I’ve been into a few department stores recently and I’m so disappointed by the service- it’s like they don’t care! I can honestly say it didn’t used to be like that and I can see why so many people are miss sold products- they just want the sale and don’t care if it’s right for you. I always sold what I thought was the right product- because you would keep coming back to me to buy it so it still kept the money coming in

graingers · 13/02/2020 21:49

@Shookethtothecore I couldn't agree more. I've felt that with every counter I've been to in the past year or so, that they don't really give a fuck. I appreciate this is a huge generalisation and a lot of people working on beauty counters do a lovely job. But not the ones I've come across recently.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 13/02/2020 22:10

Chanel Les Beiges Foundation. Utterly crap on me.

RachelTension · 13/02/2020 22:17

Kerastase shampoo. Waste of money, left my hair weirdly dry yet greasy looking.

Shookethtothecore · 13/02/2020 22:17

@graingers awful isn’t it, I would love to go back on them I worked with a fantastic group of people, was well treated by the company and I loved talking to people and helping them find the right product- there was so much excitement when a new product came out, you had good days and bad days but I still loved it. Unfortunately the hours don’t fit with my children now but it makes me so sad that the service has slipped so much and I often go in for a look around hoping for a chat about new stuff and things they like but they don’t seem that arsed. And I agree it’s a generalisation but I have been to a few major cities and lots of different counters and had all the same service- actually the local Mac store last year and a tiny little Clarins in a crappy town were the only 2 in the past year that were decent. Both I spoke to when my baby was less than 2 months old and both will never know what those conversations to me meant at the time, they saw me not a new mum and for those 15 mins I needed that: I have their names and will specifically buy from them in the future (they are on commissions) so their passion will pay off- if only other people saw that!

ChicCroissant · 13/02/2020 22:41

It is years since I used Kerastase shampoo and conditioner but they were too rich and heavy - if I used the shampoo I didn't need the conditioner!

I heard a lot about Eve Lom's balm years ago and sought it out in a department store, then instantly didn't like it because it was so oily. Now my skin is really dry and could do with that level of oil!

I also love 8 hour cream, although the smell can be challenging I admit. Brilliant as a cuticle/nail cream as well as lipbalm for me, but as I said I have really dry skin now.

snappycamper · 13/02/2020 22:45

Philip Kingsley Elasticizer. Greasy load of shite.

Snap.

Somewhat controversially I've liked most of the Charlotte tilbury stuff I've tried, although the mascara is crap.

Stuff that's been a waste of money: Aveda cherry blossom shampoo, all of the 5 things I bought from the ordinary, clarins eye palette.

Can't believe there are people who find kerastase bad, I think it's amazing.

BloomedAgain · 13/02/2020 22:54

@Shookethtothecore I'm hoping to try BFB. When applied well, what effect does it give?

tobee · 13/02/2020 23:38

I throw stuff out now. It just seems ridiculous to keep stuff I don't like and there's nowhere to put it all. Doesn't stop me buying more crap though.

Liz Earle skin products. Was given some by someone who really took the effort to chose well but it made my skin itch and it stinks! Sad

Incidentally, why have mascara brands got such stupid names all the time these days? Confused

mamakoukla · 13/02/2020 23:40

8h cream saved my -20 C blasted lips, cold and flu- chapped nose and the leather sofa! Yes... the sofa. DD spilt hot tea down it - scorched it dry resulting in loss of colour. We keep burns moist so why not daub the sofa? Rubbed it in well and left for a couple of weeks. Sofa saved :)

Not a fan of Bio oil. Claris brings me out in spots (most products).

Bitchbadgerplease · 13/02/2020 23:50

I didn't buy it (& I'm sure no MN-ers would!) But I was given some of the Younique mascara that has the famous fibres and 'transplanting gel' 2 separate tubes. I cannot believe they got away with selling that shite. Serious utter crap with fibres fluffing into your eyes all the time.

Parkmama · 14/02/2020 00:28

@snappycamper I hate kerastase and find even the tiniest amounts make me look like a seal pup!! But I love PK Elasticiser and find it keeps my hair in better condition for a good few washes and no greasiness. The challenge is to be arsed slapping it on and sleeping with it in overnight under a shower cap. All extremely high maintenance!

Parkmama · 14/02/2020 00:30

What about creme de la mer? Any fans? The cost has always fascinated me!!

foreverhungry2409 · 14/02/2020 00:37

@younonothinjs1 hey OP, I have the huda beauty foundation and it's great! It's a light foundation but has fantastic coverage. To get your correct shade, go to findation.com and put in other foundation shades you've used and it'll give you the best shade for you. I've used many of their products and I've got to say their quality is impeccable from eyeshadows to skin products
