Help! Dress Related! (Picture included)

Hello all, I need help. I have a very high profile event to attend in the future.
Think corporate/legal/black tie/evening gown....

I usually avoid these events like the plague but this one I simply cannot get out of.

I have trawled and trawled the internet and stores in person, trying to find a dress and I'm at a loss. Out of all the dresses I have tried on, there is one that I like in terms of the cut, design and colour; but it shows too much cleavage in my opinion. I'm posting a picture of me wearing the dress, it really is too much boob isn't it?

Can anyone please help with something similar but less booby.
The dress(es) must be full length, have a sleeve and not entail me flashing my boobs!

For context I am 40 this year, mum to 3 DC and in a very serious career so I want to look professional and smart but not like a 'mum' and not like I've made zero effort but equally not like I'm falling out of my clothes trying to land a Judge!

Help! Sad

**I know the mirror needs a clean and I used the word 'boob' a lot. Blush

It’s beautiful and you look stunning.
What about a minimiser bra with it?

Ginfordinner · 01/02/2020 23:32

That is a beautiful dress, and you look stunning in it.

ShirleyPhallus · 01/02/2020 23:32

I think you look lovely and it’s not too much boob

However, if you’re feeling self conscious I’d get a piece of navy / cream lace and tack it inside your top to cover some cleavage. Or buy a nude bralette to do the same

reservoircats · 01/02/2020 23:33

You look lovely OP. FWIW I don't think it's too booby at all.

spacepoppers · 01/02/2020 23:33

You look beautiful

Wilmalovescake · 01/02/2020 23:33

Or some tit tape to take them to the side a bit so less full cleavage?

rainbowlou · 01/02/2020 23:34

It looks fab!! Honestly I’d love to look like you in a dress like that, not too much at all.
Enjoy your evening 😊

latheritup · 01/02/2020 23:34

That dress is spot on! You look fab

PolloDePrimavera · 01/02/2020 23:34

You look gorgeous and totally appropriate and classy.

PhoebeFriends · 01/02/2020 23:35

You look amazing- definitely not too much boob, the dress is perfect for the event you have described.

BetterWithCheddar · 01/02/2020 23:36

That is a lovely dress and looks great on you! I don't think it is too much boob but it really does depend on the exact nature of the event and your position. The suggestion of adding a bit of lace could work though.

Haggisfish · 01/02/2020 23:36

I don’t think it’s too much boob but I can see I would probably think it was if I wore it, too! I’d get some boob tape and own it! You look fabulous.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 01/02/2020 23:41

You look fabulous and the only inappropriate things with that dress are the bra and the watch.

Get a dark colour bra to suit and if you’re going with a watch that night, something more evening look.

DM1209 · 01/02/2020 23:43

What lovely and encouraging words from people, thank you. I genuinely appreciate it.

Perhaps asking my 8 year old 'what do you think' and her response of 'are you SURE you want to wear that? It's very boob shaped!' wasn't the best place for advice!

I hadn't even thought of the minimiser or the tit tape. And the lace panel sounds like a plan too, thank you.

I think someone here has said, it's because I don't feel entirely comfortable wearing the dress but I can't work out if that's the prude in me or if it's actually the dress.

I also know these events are rife with a lot of drink and 'hooking up', and while I'm not at all suggesting people will approach me in that way, I definitely don't want to look like I'm open to being approached in the first place. I would literally freeze on the spot.

Christ! I'm overthinking, I know I am.

They sell the panels on Amazon or EBay it attaches to your bra

shivermetimbers77 · 01/02/2020 23:46

It's beautiful, but if you would prefer not to show any cleavage then I agree with the above poster that a piece of lace or a bralette would provide a bit more cover without compomising the general look and beautiful shape of the dress. I have big boobs and often wear a satin vest top under lower cut dresses as otherwise I feel like Jordan!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 01/02/2020 23:46

No,fgs you'll ruin the line of the dress if you have a modesty panel. It's a perfectly respectable V neckline for an evening dress and you look very classy. It's a beautiful dress.

BodenGate · 01/02/2020 23:47

That is stunning! I like the idea of adding a piece of lace.

GreenTulips · 01/02/2020 23:49

If the dress is a bit long you can reuse the material it won’t cost much for a seamstress.

DM1209 · 01/02/2020 23:51

Thank you again everyone, I didn't expect such positive responses, thank you.

I'm going with the senior Solicitor from our firm and a few other colleagues, we will be representing on the night - there will be 6 of us in total.
The senior Solicitor, she's fantastic and very, very supportive. However she feels I need a dress with bling, the thought fills me with horror.

Professionally speaking, I am a powerhouse and completely in my comfort zone when at work where my attire is very much suited to time spent in Court or in the office.

Outside of work and my DC's (lone parent) I do not have any life at all so these social settings are not something that I'm au fait with and I definitely don't have a wardrobe for such occasions. This is why I'm so utterly lost.

Spot on

GinandGingerBeer · 01/02/2020 23:51

You look amazing! Lovely figure, gorgeous dress. Smile

Xiaoxiong · 01/02/2020 23:54

I work in those fields and go to black tie functions regularly. The dress is perfect and if you put a modesty panel in it will just draw attention to your boobs which is not what you want. Wear as it is, hair done, classic makeup, bracelet and a nice clutch and you'll have a great time.

DM1209 · 01/02/2020 23:54

And yes the watch, that is my every day watch. I got home from work and the dress had arrived so I tried it on there and then.

To the event itself I would only wear my steel bangle (kara) as I don't have a dressy watch and I'm loathed to buy one for the sake of one night. Grin
