My DD has this very bad pretty much all over. We've tried all sorts and I appreciate these things do tend to be trial & error but this stuff has been a game-changer! It doesn't sting (a lot of the creams we've tried sting her skin) and within a few applications it has noticeably improved her skin. I'd definitely recommend this Smile

Ta for the tip I will give it a go.

CoatTails · 28/01/2020 22:32

What’s KP, OP?

fastliving · 28/01/2020 22:40

Thanks op, I'll give it a try ... mines not too bad... but it just won't go!

Maremaremare · 28/01/2020 23:48

@CoatTails - I think KP is Keratosis Pilaris which is little bumps that some people get on their arms.

Thanks OP - I'll give it a go too

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 29/01/2020 14:33

@CoatTails Maremaremare is right, it's like having lots of goosebumps permanently on the skin. I think it's a build up of keratin or something? My DD is 9 and has had it for years. It's starting to bother her now, other children comment if they see or brush against her arms for example. We've tried all sorts of lotions etc. I suppose I'm extra careful given her age, lots of things we've tried have stung so we've had to abandon. In fact, the famous (and expensive!) Ameliorate lotion stung so much I had to put her straight back in the shower to wash it off!

This Cerave lotion doesn't sting at all and it's having a marked effect on the skin, it's so much smoother already.

I have it bad all over my face. Do you know of it works on the face?

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 29/01/2020 16:37

I don't know. DD has a touch of it on the sides of her face, not so much the bumps but very rough skin. I might try a little bit on that and see how it works. Because its your face, maybe just try a little bit on a small area to see how it is, in case it causes a reaction?

I was wondering if you were going to recommend cerave sa. I love it.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 29/01/2020 20:27

Yes and thankfully it doesn't cost an arm and a leg Grin

Dettol blue bar soap has rid me of mine completely! I honestly can't believe it! It's in a lilac and white box I think.

Izitso · 31/01/2020 08:57

It's very gentle and non irritating too

Spainintherain · 31/01/2020 19:51

I might the dettol on my face but I have rosacea too so might be harsh

Izitso · 31/01/2020 22:19

I hope it works for you. I was surprised at how gentle it was - obviously make sure it's rinsed off completely though.

WeeM · 01/02/2020 11:08

I switched from shower gel to bars of soap and it’s almost all gone- could be coincidence right enough!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 01/02/2020 13:16

We tried that too @WeeM I only ever use soap but it didn't make any difference at all for DD. Her KP is quite bad though.
@Spainintherain we've started using a small bit of this lotion on DDs face, just at the sides where the skin is very rough. She's had no adverse reaction to it which is great so I'll let you know if the skin texture improves as dramatically as it has on her body 👍🏻

thank you. i have heard about this before but they weren't stocking it in UK when i last looked. am definitely going to try!

travailtotravel · 01/02/2020 14:17

Bar soap fixed mine - particularly I noted after using the full bar of rosemary and lavender ...

Mojitomogul · 01/02/2020 14:22

Oh brilliant I suffer so badly with this! Will try.

fluffiphlox · 01/02/2020 14:22

Purely out of curiosity, what causes this condition?

GeeUnit · 01/02/2020 14:27

I thought it was a thread about Katie Price Smile I like love her

Anyway I use a Dermaflannel a few times a week, including on my face, Im not sure if it would be too harsh though?

You do have to start gently with it.

Thanks for this HampsterWheel, I will give it a go. Recently, I’ve been using ALDI Miracle Oil and there is some improvement but I really need something safe to use in the summer.

I’ll also try the soap thing as I currently use soap on the smelly bits and shower gel on a shower puff everywhere else about once a week (Lazy). Really like the look of the DermaFlannel too Gee.

WellTidy · 01/02/2020 16:29

Thanks for the recommendation. I’ve had this all my life and I am mid 40s. I too have tried everything sit didn’t get on with Ameliorate as it was just so thick and sticky. I find that the Garnier 5% urea moisturiser, applied daily, helps if I give it a good few weeks. It is not at all thick and smells ok. But this sounds like it would work faster.

Hope the photo has come through. It is Garnier body hydralock 400ml, if it hasn’t.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 01/02/2020 21:41

Hope it works for you @WellTidy. It's such a pain that you have to try so many products but when you hit on one that works it's a relief! DD has just started to voice concern about this, apparently a few people in school have commented on her "bumpy arms" so she's starting to get self-conscious about it. I'm hoping it will be much improved by the summer (if we get one!!) so she won't have to worry 🤞🏻

Have to say when I cut out dairy mine improves so so much. I started having porridge for breakfast and wondered why my arms were getting so much worse. I switched to almond milk in porridge and within two days my KP was far less inflamed. I can handle a bit of normal milk in a coffee a day but not much more than that!
