Bar soap with long lasting scent

Inspired by the various threads on here I switched from shower gel to bar soap a few years ago and have never looked back. It is much better value and I certainly smell fresher.

One thing that eludes me is a bar soap with a scent that lasts. I have bought many from TK Maxx that smell gorgeous when fresh out of the box but the scent fades after a couple of weeks so it is no longer a lovely fragrant lily of the valley or orange blossom, just a faint vaguely soapy sweetness. Even worse, one pack of all natural soaps I bought from Amazon smell lovely in the box but as soon as they get wet the fragrance vanishes.

The only product I’ve found so far where the fragrance lasts to the end of the bar is the Sanctuary salt scrub bar from Boots but it’s quite a clinical, medicinal sort of smell. Lovely for days when I need an early morning energy boost but not so good for a leisurely night time shower.

Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

Shield, Pears or Palmolive are all good soaps with distinctive and long lasting fragrances, and as cheap as chips as well.

soapsmith just lovely

SquitMcJit - Weleda make a really nice calendula soap. I use their lavender one everyday, and the scent lasts until the soap is used up.

Also really like the Somerset Toiletry Company. Their triple milled soaps are great!

Not posh but the Argan+ Rose Otto body bar smells good until the last sliver and leaves my skin really nice and soft. It’s about £4 from Waitrose. Pink paper packaging.

I have some Nesti Dante soap as I used to spend ages waiting for DC to finish a club next to a shop that sold them. I love the packaging, and scent, but I don't think the scent lasts particularly longer than any other soap - Waitrose essential pink grapefruit or camomile are just as good (but are wrapped in plastic).

Dd had an little Alice in Wonderland one in a little box, retro soapy scent lasted all the way through, but no idea where it was from.

elliemcx I didn't know you could buy Santa Maria Novella soap online. I'm so happy!!

@florriepeck

I’ve just switched over to bar soap. You can get little soap bags made from sisal or bamboo that you put your soap in, so you still get the scrub effect that a plastic shower puff gives.

Nesti Dante
Pears
Castelbel (can sometimes be found in TK Maxx)

Wrights coal tar soap

Third Pears on the cheap end.

I've got a lovely grapefruit soap from Fresh which is stupid expensive for soap but it's massive and I smell lovely all day.

Roger & Gallet soaps are wonderful. A traditional company and has been around for years with a variety of beautiful scents. Amazon and John Lewis stock.

SaintEyning · 25/01/2020 22:31

On the supermarket end - wright’s coal tar lasts most of the day. I got some soaps from Kew Gardens shop just before Christmas and my colleagues have commented on how nice I smell - been using the Bergamot one and it does seem to stay on the skin like a perfume.

Tolleshunt · 25/01/2020 22:34

The Kew Gardens ones are lovely, and linger on the skin. My hands smell of roses, as I type.....

Sakura7 · 25/01/2020 22:48

Roger & Gallet are lovely while you're using them, great lather, smell amazing, but I did find them more drying than other soaps. It's a shame as I really loved their fig soap.

wizzler · 25/01/2020 22:48

Another vote for Yorkshire soap company. I love their shampoo bars too

DeathByPuppy · 26/01/2020 11:31

I like the Roger & Gallet ones too but they don’t seem to last very long. They are owned by L’Oreal now, if that matters to you. They also sold in M&S and online with Feelunique.

Lush figs and leaves

Reginabambina · 26/01/2020 13:25

L’occitane lasts not only in the bar but on your skin.

Chandrika Ayurvedic herbal soap or sandalwood. And Savon de Marseille patchouli soap. Both smell delightful, scent the bathroom and pretty cheap. Available from Amazon or ebay. I buy 10 bars at a time...
