Bar soap with long lasting scent

Inspired by the various threads on here I switched from shower gel to bar soap a few years ago and have never looked back. It is much better value and I certainly smell fresher.

One thing that eludes me is a bar soap with a scent that lasts. I have bought many from TK Maxx that smell gorgeous when fresh out of the box but the scent fades after a couple of weeks so it is no longer a lovely fragrant lily of the valley or orange blossom, just a faint vaguely soapy sweetness. Even worse, one pack of all natural soaps I bought from Amazon smell lovely in the box but as soon as they get wet the fragrance vanishes.

The only product I’ve found so far where the fragrance lasts to the end of the bar is the Sanctuary salt scrub bar from Boots but it’s quite a clinical, medicinal sort of smell. Lovely for days when I need an early morning energy boost but not so good for a leisurely night time shower.

Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

How does the Chanel bar last a year?!

Destinesia · 25/01/2020 16:48

I like the White Company ones and Roger & Gallet. On my last sliver of an R&G one and it still has its fragrance.

Yes, Jo Malone soaps are fab.

CointreauVersial · 25/01/2020 17:26

A friend gave me an amazing bar of soap recently that has scented my whole bathroom. I've just looked up the make - Nesti Dante! Mentioned on here a few times. Beauiful.

KennyRogersWasNotInStarWars · 25/01/2020 17:27

Dove! Half of my house smells of it because there’s a bar in the bathroom! And we still smell of dove at the end of the day.

florriepeck · 25/01/2020 17:54

What do you all use to apply the soap?
Just your hands, or a body puff or washcloth?
Liking the idea of switching from shower gel.

OverthinkingThis · 25/01/2020 17:56

Another vote for the Nesti Dante ones off Amazon

Ginfordinner · 25/01/2020 17:59

Binky I have just bought a couple of soaps from The Yorkshire Soap Company. I'm looking forward to using them.

Faith in Nature aloe vera is pretty good. Quite a traditional soapy clean smell.

The other ones in the range which I've tried (rosemary, orange, grapefruit) are nice lather-wise but much less strongly-scented.

pandora206 · 25/01/2020 18:16

I love Nesti Dante soaps. They smell lovely and lather really well. I have a collection in a basket by the downstairs loo, having purchased several when in Florence recently. They're quite reasonable on Amazon too.

Dove I would say and it doesn't dry your skin out

snappycamper · 25/01/2020 18:25

Love the Yorkshire soap company too. Too much for me to spend to be honest but I have received soap from there as a gift and they were truly delightful to both look at and use

snappycamper · 25/01/2020 18:26

I know I'm in the minority every time this subject comes up, but I really don't understand the fuss about nesti Dante

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 25/01/2020 18:29

Imperial Leather for sure!

SquitMcJit · 25/01/2020 18:30

Can anyone recommend a really good calendula bar soap? I love that smell so much but it is often paired up with another scent that overpowers it.

DownstairsMixUp · 25/01/2020 18:32

Lush soaps but they are way too expensive and run out too fast

Ginfordinner · 25/01/2020 18:52

I'm also an Imperial Leather fan. I like the clean, fresh smell. I really dislike toiletries that smell of any kind of food, especially the fruity ones.

elliemcx · 25/01/2020 18:55

santa maria novella soaps and diptyque definitely have long lasting scent!

@snappycamper 'I know I'm in the minority every time this subject comes up, but I really don't understand the fuss about nesti Dante'

Me neither, Snappy. There's a shop in the town I live in and I loved the scents, so bought a bar. The scent doesn't last that well and I could never smell it on my skin afterwards. Then I found out it's made with palm oil Sad

Bogoffrain · 25/01/2020 19:39

Can anyone remember Cussons pearl in the shimmery pink box? My mum had it in the then pink bathroom and thought it was very sophisticated

MWNA · 25/01/2020 19:42

Shield. On a flannel. In the shower every morning. Gorgeous soapy smell.

PersonaNonGarter · 25/01/2020 19:43

Pears

youllhavehadyourtea · 25/01/2020 19:45

Mysore Sandal Soap

Can go a bit squishy towards the end, but an amazing smell. If there's an Indian shop nearby it's about £1 a bar, otherwise can be quite pricey online.
