Just wondering, what's the maximum number of years younger you think it's possible to look in real life?

I'm just pondering this in my idle moments (clearly I have too many!!)

Without actual 'work', obviously.

It's just that I often see people claiming (and I have no basis to disbelieve them!!) they are eg 35 but look 25.

HONESTLY, if I think about my very lovely and gorgeous friends, all roughly aged 35-50 and all very different women, NONE of us look any more than roughly 5 years younger than our actual ages.

I'm 43, and I take very VERY good care of my skin inside and out, and I think probably most people take me for about 38/39, no younger.

One stunning friend who is 50 and looks absolutely amazing, and does a lot of non-surgical stuff - honestly she still looks about 45, no younger.

This is absolutely not a criticism of ANYONE for getting older (I mean, what the fuck else are we meant to do) or of anyone for doing whatever they can/want to look younger. I'm just ever so intrigued as here I am eating avocado and using retinol and sunscreen and never smoking and never sunbathing... and I hear people saying they look a good 10 years younger than they really are.

SHOULD I BE DOING MORE???!!! Grin

Really I just want to look well, and rested, and not puffy and grey. I see no way I could look 33 right now. Apart from literal time-travel.

Hmm, I am 50 but could pass for 40.

My Aunt in her 70's always passed for 20 years younger. Not one wrinkle at 72! And this was with no "help".

My friends Mum is 80 and honestly her skin is amazing and she would pass for 60. I actually sent my sister a photo of this lady, and asked her to guess her age, and my sister guessed late 40's! I wish I could post a pic here, but obviously I can't really do that.

HuskyloverI · 27/01/2020 13:48

Oh, and my friend who has the young looking Mum, is 54 and honestly would pass for 38. No wrinkles at all. And she's really fit (in the army).

slipperywhensparticus · 27/01/2020 13:52

I think my age depends on the children that I'm with if I'm with my 7 year old people think thirties then my 20 year old rocks up Grin

Misery 35/6?

damnthatanxiety · 27/01/2020 15:43

Misery mid to late 30s? Hard to tell as second picture doesn't show much of your face!!

Miseryisabutterfly · 27/01/2020 15:49

😂 I’m going to put a stop to this before anyone says I’m 50. I’m 36 next month, you’re both bang on.

ffswhatnext · 27/01/2020 16:02

I'm also thinking petiteness might be down to it, as well as genes.
I'm 44 and small.
I smoke, stressful life, 4dc's one with sn. I have a lot of heath issues. I've not always cared about what I eat.
I moisturise daily. I rarely wear make-up and when I do I wash it off, tone and moisturise. Once a month, I sleep with vaseline on my face.
I have no lines, not even frown ones. When I had my 40th, some people were confused as they thought I was younger. Others thought I was taking the piss out of myself.
I've given up trying to convince people I'm not 34-36.

Oh, and hairstyles play a massive difference. I had one cut a few years ago, I looked at least 50.

withlotsoflove · 27/01/2020 17:14

Misery you are beautiful.
Yes, haircuts can really age us.
I think the more simple the better. Anything remotely traditionally middle aged looking adds years...

withlotsoflove · 27/01/2020 17:15

@Saj22
What’s the answer? Smile

doadeer · 27/01/2020 17:16

I think people can look amazing but they don't look "young" if you consider Angelina Jolie in Malificent or Cate Blanchet in Lord of the Rings - they don't have a single wrinkle but you know they aren't 20.

There's something about the way you look when you're young that's different - it's hard to put your finger on it.

Miseryisabutterfly · 27/01/2020 17:32

That is very kind @withlotsoflove thank you! Thank goodness my picture has been removed and others can take your word for it 😅

I agree with haircuts being aging!

doadeer · 27/01/2020 17:39

I'm also sorry to sound negative but there's a huge difference between a photo with a strong exposure or a filter and seeing someone in the day light. My mum is very attractive and very photogenic but in person you can see far more fine lines etc which is totally normal as she's 56! Doesn't stop her being beautiful x

Baluga · 27/01/2020 17:46

Ooh I want to play.. can someone guess both of our ages? There’s often confusion over them. (Name changed)

I know a lot of people who look much younger than their years, also know a lot of people who think they do Grin

Baluga sorry but it is a weird picture. It is either heavily filtered or weirdly over exposed so you both look kind of like androids. Impossible to tell ages. Esp the person on the right.

ScarlettBlaize · 27/01/2020 17:58

@Baluga I think you should post a picture without (the digital equivalent of) a load of Vaseline smeared over the lens.

That picture is worthy of being posted in: www.reddit.com/r/Instagramreality/

Baluga · 27/01/2020 18:03

Ooer that’ll be that then.. someone took it at the weekend so nicked it off fb 😂

hopeishere · 27/01/2020 18:08

@Saj22 you look about 45.

I'm nearly 50 but think I look a few years younger!! I hope!!

Saj22 · 27/01/2020 18:22

I'm 45, as everyone guessed! (I think I look about my age).

AlexGS · 27/01/2020 18:41

Small, slim women who dress young can look younger than they really are (especially at a glance). Women who use SPF regularly often have younger looking skin...and non smokers look younger than smokers!

How old do I look? People often guess at least five years older or at least five years younger!

Just wondering, what's the maximum number of years younger you think it's possible to look in real life?
Missillusioned · 27/01/2020 18:41

Yeah, you can look older without wrinkles. Young faces have a plumped up dewy sort of look. Older faces are harder.

Missillusioned · 27/01/2020 18:45

@AlexGS I would guess late 30s.

Photos are really unreliable though. Even without filters, a good photo in good light with a flattering angle can chop years off you. And the reverse can also be true. Anyone who's online dated knows this!

People look different in the flesh and are easier to guess the age of correctly

Miseryisabutterfly · 27/01/2020 18:50

I think you’re 40/41 @AlexGS. The top right pic has thrown me though, you could be 28 there!

WellHolyGodMiley · 27/01/2020 18:51

By time you are 45 you arent going to look more than 5 years younger but that doesnt mean you wont look good!

You can look beautiful, healthy, stylish, and youthful, if not young. You can look animated, vital, intelligent and fun and past 45 these things make you seem like you are owning your age because it is ok to age.
