Just wondering, what's the maximum number of years younger you think it's possible to look in real life?

I'm just pondering this in my idle moments (clearly I have too many!!)

Without actual 'work', obviously.

It's just that I often see people claiming (and I have no basis to disbelieve them!!) they are eg 35 but look 25.

HONESTLY, if I think about my very lovely and gorgeous friends, all roughly aged 35-50 and all very different women, NONE of us look any more than roughly 5 years younger than our actual ages.

I'm 43, and I take very VERY good care of my skin inside and out, and I think probably most people take me for about 38/39, no younger.

One stunning friend who is 50 and looks absolutely amazing, and does a lot of non-surgical stuff - honestly she still looks about 45, no younger.

This is absolutely not a criticism of ANYONE for getting older (I mean, what the fuck else are we meant to do) or of anyone for doing whatever they can/want to look younger. I'm just ever so intrigued as here I am eating avocado and using retinol and sunscreen and never smoking and never sunbathing... and I hear people saying they look a good 10 years younger than they really are.

SHOULD I BE DOING MORE???!!! Grin

Really I just want to look well, and rested, and not puffy and grey. I see no way I could look 33 right now. Apart from literal time-travel.

I don't think age is anything to be ashamed of, at all

Hear! Hear!

I have a beautiful friend who is half Indian and she looks late twenties to thirty and is 48. Her mum who is Indian is 70 and looks mid to late 50s. Friend’s sister also could pass for 20 years younger. However they are the only people I know that that is true for. Both have very high foreheads, large eyes that are quite widely placed, a very youthful basic facial structure. Both are also slim and fit. It’s possible they may have had Botox, I’m not sure, but definitely no fillers.

DartmoorChef · 23/01/2020 17:11

Haha, I'm 51 in 3 weeks time but I really don't feel it. Considering I spend a lot of time outdoors, and smoke like a chimney I think it's definitely genetics. My aunt is 80 and coulf easily pass for mid 60s.

This was in corfu last year when I had a tan and had bothered to put some make up on but generally I'm make up free as I'm in a hot kitchen all day. Maybe it's the steam that helps 😂

4-6
People can look healthy, vibrant, beautifil and like they are OWNING their age but they rarely look more than 5 years younger

LilyJade · 23/01/2020 17:18

I always looked really young for my age as I have a round 'baby face' with smallish features & clear skin. Also no lines at rest.

But lately at 43 I feel I look my age. Maybe because I feel not very well a lot & am finding life stressful at the moment.

I'm trying to improve my appearance by dieting & exercise & bothering with my skincare routine.
I don't care if I look my actual age but I'd like to look attractive.

theculture · 23/01/2020 17:20

I always thought ageing would be a gradual change but now in my mid forties and watching people around me it seems more like steps where things stay fairly stable for a few years then lots changes quite quickly

So few small wrinkles for several years at mid thirties, but by mid forties within a year or so wrinkly neck, lots of fine lines etc

NorthEndGal · 23/01/2020 17:20

I dont wear make up, have no skin care routine, I smoked for 20 years and I am out in all weathers.
People react with surprise about my age , if kids are mentioned. People ask my if I've had a baby yet, and I say, yes but they are grown. Then they either say I dont look old enough, or ask how old my dc are (20 and 22) then they give me the funny look and say, oh you started young eh?Hmm
I'm 42!

TheYearOfTheDog · 23/01/2020 17:22

Yeh i had virtually no unattractive signs of ageing ti 44 ish. I know there are subtle changes though. People would have known i was 40.

Think i aim to look good AT my age not good for my age. You either look good or you dont. I look ok but if i said i was 5 years older, that wouldnt suddenly make me look great.

NorthEndGal · 23/01/2020 17:48

I think that @TheYearOfTheDog is right, what matters is looking good for your age, not trying to look like someone else generation

Annasgirl · 23/01/2020 19:15

@DartmoorChef - wow, you look fab. I'm 51 this year too so I know what I'm talking about!!!!

Floisme · 23/01/2020 19:16

I think trying to look younger is a losing game. But I do like to look modern; not young, not fashionable but like I'm still engaged with the world.

hazeyjane · 23/01/2020 19:21

I don't know.
For years I looked younger than my actual age then....blammy - 50 years old and it's like I turned into a mixture of all 4 grandparents overnight. Ah well, in my head I'm still 27!

Hooleywhipper · 23/01/2020 19:22

I’m 50 this year, pass for maybe 46/47 . So basically look my age, I’m ok with that. I’m quite proud of my age 😊.

Alfr · 23/01/2020 19:33

I'll play. Guess away!

itssquidstella · 23/01/2020 19:42

My aunt, now in her late 50s, looked at good twenty years younger than her age until a few years ago. She still looks good for her age, but you'd probably put her in her 40s now, whereas she was regularly IDed until she was well into her 40s! She is very petite.

I'm 34 and look 28-30; people usually assume I'm a few years younger than I am. No way could I pass for a student anymore, though - when I started teaching at 23 I was mistaken for a sixth former pretty much daily.

Number3or4 · 23/01/2020 19:52

Dm is the winner of who looks the younger than their true age, in rl. It is genetics, I did not inherit those genes. She looks about 15years younger and her mother is the same. People get surprised as usual when I say how they are related to me. I have also learned to expect people to ask if I’m sure. It don’t help that dm had me as a teenager.

damnthatanxiety · 23/01/2020 20:09

ScarlettBlaize I think both too much body fat and not enough body fat are aging. Too much can make people look matronly. Too little and they look haggard and drawn. Neither is attractive. It isn't really rocket science, being a healthy mid point is obviously going to be the weight that people look their best.

BorneoBabe · 23/01/2020 20:35

@DartmoorChef Hard to tell with that lighting/angle.

@NorthEndGal - You do look young in that pic. I'd have said a decade younger.

@Alfr - Something about you makes me think early-40s.

@BorneoBabe thats how I look just about every day, and it doesn't help I dress in almost exclusively 2nd hand clothes too.
I tried to make sure to use a face forward, no make up and outdoor lighting, so you can see the wrinkles around my eyes and mouth.
I think I maybe look 40? But not more than a few years younger.

MrsDoubtTried · 23/01/2020 20:47

I think filters or whatever are being used. Why bother?

NorthEndGal · 23/01/2020 20:55

@Lambikinis still made me laugh!Grin

Also, I know lots of people do filter, I've never done it, as 1, I'm lazy, 2 I dont care to look foggy, or like a deer, or like I am wearing make up or anything but what I am

PeachMelba78 · 23/01/2020 22:20

Ok how old do you think I am? No filters, no surgery or procedures
