I need a cool dog walking coat

If such a thing exists?? My partner reckons all dog walking coats (for which read, waterproof, warm, longish) are by nature a bit... unattractive. I would like to prove him wrong. I've seen the attached from h&m and I really like the shape but it's not waterproof. Does anyone have any good ideas?

I have a Principles coat actually called ‘dog walker’ and I love it. Not able to link but they’re selling on Debenhams website.

MairzyDoats · 16/01/2020 22:58

Great thanks, I will have a look!

Can you link that coat please mairzy.

I don't have a proper answer to your question but surly any parka would do?

MairzyDoats · 16/01/2020 23:00

This is the Dog Walker coat - bit short and a bit wide for me although at that price I might order it anyway and see! I'd like something with a fleece or padded lining as I'm always cold.

@Ginkypig this is the h&m coat. I really like it but not waterproof.

Seasalt have lovely long waterproof coats. I also use mine for standing at the side of sports pitches and stay dry and warm. Mine was £150 but a great investment that will last years.

foxywheaton75 · 16/01/2020 23:04

I have got a Berghaus parka.
It looks good but really keeps me warm and dry in all weather.
It wasn't particularly cheap but have worn it for the last couple of years and it's still in great condition.

BinkySodPlop · 16/01/2020 23:07

Have you had a look at mandmdirect.com? They do some sports / technical outerwear. Stock changes quite quickly, so it's worth keeping an eye on it. I've had a goretex jacket from there which was less than £60, because it was a season old and in a bright colour.

I just bought this- Really lightweight hooded waterproof

I swear by Seasalt’s Janelle coat.
It has survived fierce winds and muddy dog walks on a daily basis. You’ll have to rewax in the washing machine from time to time but that’s easy.
It’s a fantastic coat. Pricey but worth it.

I have a long quilted navy Michael Kors coat which I found in TK Max. It’s brilliant because it dries overnight so that I am not permanently covered in muddy footprints when vanillapup jumps up to say “Hello where’s my biscuit?”

VanillaSugarr · 16/01/2020 23:17

Can I hijack this and ask about dog walking bags? (Not poo bags but something for the car keys etc). I’m using a cross body leather bag but that too has muddy footprints on.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 16/01/2020 23:21

What’s your budget? I got a fabulous one from Plumo.com years ago, not cheap but I’ve had it so long the cost per wear works out better than some cheaper options. It was an Ilse Jacobson, they don’t have my one anymore but there’s a lot of choice. Lots of colours, easy clean, long lasting, very functional.

I use my Seasalt Seafolly coat as my dog-walking coat. It's actually fairly lightweight but windproof so with a warm jumper underneath it's toasty warm.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 16/01/2020 23:23

Kipling bags are excellent dog walking bags. Loads of compartments!

ByAppointmentTo · 16/01/2020 23:26

I've ordered this for dog walking - down from £150 to £60. It's not arrived yet so can't comment on it but the reviews seem good www.whitestuff.com/womens/coats-and-jackets/navy-fernhurst-parka/

I use a Kipling bag for dog walking. Plenty of room for poo bags, dog treats, tissues etc.

I use that one and love it

Regatta Romina. Insulated and waterproof. I feel the cold quite bad normally but this is nice and toasty

MerryGrinchmas1 · 16/01/2020 23:42

I did have a regatta roanstar too but not sure if they still do that one

Lou573 · 16/01/2020 23:44

I love my didriksons parka - fully waterproof and warm.

74NewStreet · 16/01/2020 23:45

Another vote for Seasalt’s Janelle. Long and cosy.

MarleyMooChick · 16/01/2020 23:52

Go Outdoors have a good selection. I have the waterproof one below for winter for dog walking:

Trespass have several in that parka style and most,if not all,are waterproof and some fleece lined. Sale on last time I looked too.
On their website just search for ‘waterproof’ and filter with’parka’ style.
