I’m not getting out and about much at the moment owing to ill health so I feel like I’m not very in touch with what people are wearing! :) I need a spring/autumn jacket (for when I do hopefully get out more!) and am wondering about this one. I tend to think of cord as old-fashioned, but maybe it’s back in?!

It’s a classic neutral piece OP! Can’t go wrong with it, it’s lovely.

cakeandchampagne · 16/01/2020 21:20

I like it- corduroy is great!
But I always think of it as a fall fabric.

I like it. Cord is having a revival.

JKScot4 · 16/01/2020 21:24

My DD14, who is very fashion forward has assured me cord is very ‘in’, she has a few cord items.

teaandcake246 · 16/01/2020 22:21

Thank you very much for the replies. Interesting to hear that cord is in!

@cakeandchampagne I know what you mean! I think that’s part of my hesitation. @Shockers and @JKScot4 Do you think cord these days is acceptable as spring/summer wear?!

OP posts:
Shockers · 16/01/2020 22:33

Definitely- especially in that colour!

JKScot4 · 16/01/2020 22:54

Definitely suitable, looks quite lightweight 👍🏼

Badabingbadabum · 16/01/2020 22:56

I had one just like that in cord but slightly more stone-stone-coloured in the mid-90's. I wish I'd kept a lot of my clothes (because obviously they'd still be a perfect fit! Grin).

Would look great in Spring.

Iamthewombat · 16/01/2020 23:07

I don’t like it. Sorry to contradict everyone!

Here is why:

  1. I don’t think that boxy denim jacket shape does much for anybody.
  1. Cream is actually quite hard to pull off for most people: can leave you looking washed out.
  1. Cream is also hard to combine with other colours: everything else you wore would have to be plain and neutral.
  1. You don’t say what age you are, OP. I’m 48, and I remember that style from the first time around. I’m a firm believer in not re-wearing a trend from your youth: it’s ok for people doing it first time around, like a PP’s daughter upthread, but wear it second time around and it dates you (in my view) and makes you look like you’ve unearthed something you’ve had in the wardrobe since 1993.

I’d be going for a chic-er look in a more stylish colour. I hope you are soon feeling more chipper.

MaJoady · 16/01/2020 23:17

I personally wouldn't buy it because it's not my style, but it looks perfect for spring to me, particularly in cream.

I also have to contradict most of @iamthewombat's points (sorry!). Lots of people definitely suit the body style, it can be very flattering if it hits the right part of your hip. I also find cream is also very easy to wear with lots of colours outside of neutral.

Most fashions come back around. If you like it and enjoy wearing it that is the most important thing. I can definitely see the appeal of getting a coat in the hope of good days ahead, I hope you get to use it frequently OP!

teaandcake246 · 16/01/2020 23:30

Thanks so much for the replies, and good wishes! I’m 41, and funnily enough, I had a jacket pretty much identical to this when I was 18!

@Iamthewombat Do you have thoughts on what a chic-er look might be, please? (Maybe something slightly longer and belted? Not sure where to buy!) I do want something suitable for casual wear, though! Thanks :)

I’m going to FatFace to try one on- it has great reviews, although they say it comes up small, so size up.

I really like it!

teaandcake246 · 17/01/2020 09:07

@Shockers I’ll be interested to hear what you think of it! I’m tempted to order it!

Jojoanna · 17/01/2020 09:10

I’m v old and I like it and would wear it ,

Shockers · 17/01/2020 09:11

@teaandcake246- do they do free delivery/returns? If so, I’d just go for it!

CatherineTheNotSoGreat · 17/01/2020 09:13

I think it's perfectly nice. It's a good choice for Spring/Autumn. You'll wear it loads, and I think it will be easy to throw on over most things.

I fail to see what age has to do with it.

Javagrey · 17/01/2020 09:24

Must be third time around. I remember this type of jacket being fashionable in the 70s too. Very casual so it depends on what you want it for. It is a youngish style and would suit a slim figure best

MozzchopsThirty · 17/01/2020 09:33

I also remember this style first time round (44)
I'm slim but wouldn't wear that, agree with pp that boxy shape isn't flattering on anyone
I also wouldn't wear cream

I see fat face as a shop for women who have given up

Ginfordinner · 17/01/2020 09:37

I like it but not in that colour. I would want it in navy.

colaicepops · 17/01/2020 09:42

Sorry I don't like it. The cream colour may wash out some people and I just think it looks a bit dull. I'm sure you can find something more chic and interesting.

PhoenixR1sing · 17/01/2020 09:58

I have this in navy and it's fab. More of a spring or autumn wear but lovely and soft and well made.

Ellapaella · 17/01/2020 10:47

I had a very similar one from TopShop Moto when I was 17 - mine had a wool collar. I loved it (I'm 40 now)

Shockers · 17/01/2020 11:12

I agree that a lot of FF stuff is shapeless, which is why I looked at the reviews. They appear to have got it right this time.

mizzles · 17/01/2020 11:18

Personally I think corduroy blazers are much more flattering. Lots of double-breasted ones around in colours like rust, burgundy, pink, etc. They do have quite a retro feel but look cool with jeans and trainers or boots (also a bit warmer than the one you've listed as they tend to be longer). I have one from & Other Stories in rust and they have a similar navy one at present (bit pricey though). Gap have one in their sale too.

teaandcake246 · 17/01/2020 13:06

@mizzles Oo, those sound really nice - I’ll have a look!
