Royal style: forget all your stresses as we talk royal dresses

Previous thread

Now. A request. Can we please keep this to critiquing the clothes rather than the wearer?

So if you want to talk about what Meghan's wearing then fine, go ahead. I'm not even saying you have to like everything she wears. This applies to all royal women - if you don't like an outfit then do feel free to say so.

But if you want to talk about "Megxit" then please go to one of the many many other MN threads about it and leave us to our clothes chatter!

Look at that picture of HMQ dripping in all those emeralds and diamonds. Aside from her actual crown, could she look more like she is the boss? She is more than a match for a couple of rebellious grandchildren.

beanaseireann · 12/01/2020 17:03

CurlyWurlyTwirly perhaps the Queen wore the dull brown so she wouldn't stand out and could fade into the background. She is almost 94 with a sick husband and an unexpected crisis with her grandson and his wife.
I was never a huge fan of hers but it must be very tough at the moment.

beanaseireann · 12/01/2020 17:09

QueenoftheAndals I treated myself to a fitting in a Rigby and Peller store when visiting London some years back. Not large in that department but really happy to be told that I was at least an E cup. I had been wearing a C cup. Having had for years what my dm termed 2 fried eggs, I was delighted. Grin

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/01/2020 17:51

Yes, people think anything above a D cup is large but it really depends on the band size.

OP posts:
SenecaFalls · 12/01/2020 18:14

Everyone I know who has had a professional fitting has gone up at least one cup size.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 12/01/2020 18:35

@beanaseireann

Good point.
There must be days when she thinks «I’m sick of being Queen» I want to go for a ride, walk the dogs and watch Antiques Roadshow.
The last 12 months have been relentless for her.

Here’s a retrospective of the Queens scarves well a few!

Maybe if we ever have a meet-up; we all wear a headscarf to recognise each other !
Headscarf Flashmob Meet in Kensington Palace gardens!

Wetdogloveshubert · 12/01/2020 18:48

Crikey, I remember having a fitting and going from a C to an F too, @beanaseireann! A good fitting is absolutely worth it's weight Crown Grin

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 12/01/2020 18:50

My late DGM (born early 20th century) would wear a headscarf when she went out to the shops. She also had a beautiful powder compact from Italy (bought as a souvenir in the 1960s) & she would 'put her face on' before going out. A light dabbing of powder, a dot of rosy lipstick on each cheek & rubbed in & then finally the rosy lipstick (in a gold case think it may have been Helena Rubinstein or Elizabeth Arden) on her lips.
She was beautiful but if DGrandad or any of us told her that she'd say 'you daft ha'porth' ' or 'don't be doolally'.

Personally I like headscarves for protecting your hair in the drizzle/rain/wind.
They definitely should make a comeback.

MotherofPearl · 12/01/2020 18:51

Headscarf flashmob Grin

I do quite like the headscarf look but fear it's something you can only get away with if you're young and trendy and being ironic, or you're the actual Queen. I'm very much middle-aged so I think I'd look as if I was really embracing getting old - which for the record, I'm not!

One of our previous meet-up plans was PC's Scottish B&B, wasn't it? I imagine it's so cosy at this time of year - I love Scotland!

TSSDNCOP · 12/01/2020 18:51

I would absolutely love to live in a world where a headscarf, pearls and gloves were required in my wardrobe.

As an aside, I had a dream last night that Harry was on the run from M so we were hiding out together in a friends country house. It was very tiring as I was constantly having to go out and buy him M&S Ham and Mushroom Tagliatelle.

MotherofPearl · 12/01/2020 19:22

That is a funny royal dream - especially about the tagliatelle!

I wear pearls so maybe I should embrace the headscarf after all. I inherited a lovely strand of graduated pearls from my DGM which I do enjoy wearing. Your DGM sounds very glamorous @TracyBeakerSoYeah.

CarrotVan · 12/01/2020 19:49

Some great pics here- members2.boardhost.com/royal-jewels/msg/1577909729.html

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/01/2020 19:50

I forgot about Charles' B&B. But it needs him preparing the cooked breakfast for the guests and Camilla serving up doubles behind the bar to make it worth a visit!

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/01/2020 19:51

@TSSDNCOP That's like the dream I had where Kate and I were on the run from William who wanted us dead for uncovering some big conspiracy!

CarrotVan · 12/01/2020 19:52

I like CP Mary’s dress particularly

Thisenglishlife · 12/01/2020 20:00

I would absolutely love to live in a world where a headscarf, pearls and gloves were required in my wardrobe.

Oh, me too. When I'm older, definitely.

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/01/2020 20:02

An old article on Harper's about the most stylish royals. A few I was unaware of, a great caftan on Max, and see if you can spot the mistake!

OP posts:
SenecaFalls · 12/01/2020 20:15

Is it that they have identified CP Mary as her sister-in-law Princess Marie?

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/01/2020 20:18

Yes @SenecaFalls but I suppose it's easily done! I do love that dress she's wearing though.

I love Leti's dress from the 10 year challenge.

queenofarles · 12/01/2020 21:01

Some shockers in that 10 year challenge Shock.

Queen Rania , I’m starting to think that she dresses very on trend but it’s the type that dates very quick, that picture is a proof.

Kate’s clothes are so nostalgic Wink good old 2000s!

Zara still dresses the same,

paradyning · 12/01/2020 21:53

Oh sweet louise. She's so cute there.

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/01/2020 22:01

She is but Sophie must've been going through a House of Bruar stage!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 12/01/2020 23:09

I usually find Queen Margarethe dress style a bit tot; but she is very chic in white here.
