What shoes with navy straight leg chinos?

Hello, I'm trying to look more stylish and less scruffy. People who have their sh*t together, please help me!

What shoes are good with these straight leg navy chinos? I own red ballet flats and white trainers which I think look nice. I have been wearing burgundy brogues all the time recently, but suspect these will not be the right thing with the chinos.

What about ankle boots? Or will they just make me look shorter? (5ft 6 pear shaped).

I would go white trainers or brown/tan brogues with these trousers. They're nice!

goldie04 · 10/01/2020 12:05

Maybe some white pumps

thedevilinablackdress · 10/01/2020 12:06

Brogues should be good. Possibly the ankle boots but it depends how they sit together. I'd also wear my DM shoes.

Ninkanink · 10/01/2020 12:19

Ankle boots wouldn’t look right. Brogues would be fine imo. Loafers would be great.

mrslebon · 10/01/2020 13:26

Definitely not ankle boots. I've tried these chinos on and I actually think they look better with a bit of height so how about a platform brogue (Boden did some amazing white ones - not sure if still in stock) or some nude heels. Or a trainer with a decent sole like these: www.mintvelvet.co.uk/product/Alina-White-Sporty-Trainers/26161
which give a bit of height.

MelanieFrontage · 10/01/2020 13:26

Definitely brogues or loafers. That’s my go to look for work!

I do also wear grey suede ankle boots with mine but the bit around the ankle is very close fitting and ends just below the hem of the trousers.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 10/01/2020 13:28

What do you wear on your feet under the brogues?
Pop socks?

AnotherEmma · 10/01/2020 13:29

Pumps. I wear navy Rothys with mine. Red shoes or brown leather would work, too.

Ninkanink · 10/01/2020 14:06

Yes, I also wear pumps, and mid heel brogues.

Good thick platform trainers or slip-ons would look good too.

inwood · 10/01/2020 14:29

Brogues, no socks. Definitely not ankle boots.

thedevilinablackdress · 10/01/2020 16:48

I think socks in a contrasting colour/pattern is good.

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 10/01/2020 16:51

I have been eying up those trousers too Grin are they nice?

mummmy2017 · 10/01/2020 16:53

I hate half mast trousers, an inch longer means more elegance.

quirkychick · 10/01/2020 16:57

Lovely trousers, trainers or brogues would look great. I think ankle boots if they are close fitting round the ankles would probably work too.

MelanieFrontage · 10/01/2020 17:48

Socks in contrasting bright colours with the brogues/ loafers.

Maraki · 10/01/2020 17:57

Court shoes, stilettos, kitten heels, block heels would all look nice.
I don’t think ballet shoes would look good, unless you are petite.
Trainers, loafers, brogues for more casual.

Maraki · 10/01/2020 17:57

And sock boots!

Ferrisbuellersdayoff · 10/01/2020 18:35

What are sock boots?

OP posts:
Ferrisbuellersdayoff · 10/01/2020 22:17

@Maraki I'm 5ft 6, so medium height. What would you wear ballet pumps with?

OP posts:
Maraki · 10/01/2020 22:48

I would wear ballet flats with cropped chinos, jeans and midi dresses but not if I wanted to look ‘less scruffy’ as per your post. To me, personally, ballet flats look cute on petite women and on everybody else ‘I can’t walk in heels but I can’t get away with trainers’. Sorry... I wear them too (I am 5’10), they look like gigantic dolly shoes on me, but if I have a blister and my feet hurt... it’s the only thing I can walk in and is acceptable at work.

lifeisgoodmostofthetime · 10/01/2020 22:53

I wear white trainers or ballet pumps.

Drinkciderfromalemon · 10/01/2020 23:45

If you wanted to wear ankle boots, the only way (imo) would be to roll the trousers up, or they would be flapping around the top of the boots which would not be a good look.. with those, I agree brogues, loafers or ballet pumps. I do like fishnets, glittery socks or similar, but for that length and style trousers, such things are unlikely to look good.

Ferrisbuellersdayoff · 11/01/2020 00:10

@mrslebon I had the Boden platform brogues in dark red but I destroyed them by wearing them day in day out and not looking after them :(
