What do you wear for yoga?

I’ve been doing some You Tube yoga at home but I'm starting classes next week.

I've been wearing primark leggings and a T-shirt - the leggings are see thru and ready for the bin, and the T-shirt is baggy so it rides up and hangs in my face during some moves.

What do you wear? Are there any brands you could recommend? I don't want to spend a fortune but I also don't want to turn up and look like the odd one out in totally inappropriate clothes.

Thanks!

Was gonna say I just do it in my PJs when I'm at home, but maybe not appropriate for a class Blush.

For a class, I'd get some proper leggings because you get into all sorts of positions but they don't need to be expensive, Asda and Matalan do good sportswear ranges.

I wear some trainer socks cause I hate my feet, but most people do it barefoot.

coldbrewaddict · 05/01/2020 15:48

I love the yoga pants from Alo Yoga — buttery soft and passes the squat test! Tops I'd just get some from Asda or Decathlon. No point getting those from the big brands IMO cause the quality turns out to be pretty much the same.

GeneParmesanPrivateEye · 05/01/2020 15:50

Get some sports-style leggings - gap, h &m and next all do some... you can also look at nike, adidas etc. lots of discounts to be found and they're readily available.

A close fit vest so it doesn't ride up, put a looser layer on top if you like. Also take socks and a hoody or something for savasana :)

More yoga-specific and higher end brands tend to be sweaty betty and lulu lemon.

AsleepAllDay · 05/01/2020 15:51

Following as I just wear primark leggings too!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/01/2020 15:52

Following as I'm thinking of trying my first ever yoga class.

BrightonBB · 05/01/2020 15:52

Check the colour of underwear too and do a few downward dogs in front of a friendly but blunt friend. Some leggings can go quite see through when bending!!
I have my yoga socks - nothing fancy just simple trainer socks, they don’t move around my foot as fairly snug fitting.

AnotherEmma · 05/01/2020 15:55

High-waisted leggings and long tops. Because of all the bending!

Crocky · 05/01/2020 15:56

I have cheap yoga leggings from TKMaxx and my t shirts are under armour. Everyone in the class I go to are barefoot.

HepburnKNotA · 05/01/2020 16:00

Following too! I’m 43 and as stiff as a board, you have NO idea. Is it too late for yoga?

Ohyesiam · 05/01/2020 16:00

I wear Bam yoga pants and a fitting vest, because then it doesn’t go in my face.
But don’t worry about looking right, when you are head down with your bum in the air, everyone else will be too, so they won’t see your see through leggings Grin.

Crocky · 05/01/2020 16:03

HepburnKNotA I only started last year. I’m 49. Never too late.

applecatchers36 · 05/01/2020 16:04

Leggings, bamboo are great breathable fabric or loose dropped crotch yoga pants, sports bra ( no wires) and vest or t- shirt . Nike, Adidas, even Gap do some yoga clothes.

Crocky · 05/01/2020 16:05

Ohyesiam you have a very good point. I’ve been doing a class for a year now and have never looked at someone else’s arse 😂

CoffeeConnoiseur · 05/01/2020 16:05

@HepburnKNotA I'm 41 and only just starting.

I'm actually more worried about farting in class than see thru leggings Grin

@HepburnKNotA definitely not too late, you’ll see a difference in about 3 months- even just once a week.

I wear leggings from decathlon or mountain warehouse, tops from same or H&M. A sports bra or crop top over a normal bra. Nothing too loose as they fall over your head during inversions. My teacher only allows the grippy yoga socks. A warm hoodie for the end is useful.

SleepwalkingThroughLife · 05/01/2020 16:10

What type of yoga do you all go to and what does it cost for a class?

AnotherEmma · 05/01/2020 16:16

OP Grin

Sleepwalking I go to Hatha yoga and pay £80 for 10 classes, it's PAYG credits rather than a termly payment where you lose money if you miss a class.

MysweetAudrina · 05/01/2020 16:16

I started yoga at 43 and have being practicing daily at a yoga studio for the past 2 years and I just wear leggings from tk Maxx, Penny's or other supermarkets. I wear vest tops and sports bra and a warm top and socks for savasana.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/01/2020 16:23

The place I'm thinking of trying is £10 a class or a bit cheaper if you buy a few together.

AnotherEmma · 05/01/2020 16:24

Sometimes they let you do a trial class for free or a reduced price.

OverByYer · 05/01/2020 16:26

I wear leggings or harem style joggers, either a tight top that doesn’t ride up, or I have a yoga vest from Next with elastic around the bottom.

I yoga socks too, they have grippy bottoms but those aren’t necessary I just don’t like my feet!

OverByYer · 05/01/2020 16:27

I do vinyasa/ flow yoga or sometimes hatha

bluebellation · 05/01/2020 16:31

I wear slim joggers from Primark and a long t-shirt. People in my class wear a mix of sports type stuff and ordinary leggings, joggers or track pants . The men tend to wear shorts.

I started just before I was 60, now 65 and still bendy Grin . I pay £10 a class. I do 2 classes a week and a youtube video most other days (Adriene or Kassandra) .

Taddda · 05/01/2020 16:33

Sweaty Betty- their yoga leggings are superb, high waisted and definitely not see through, some are reversible (a two for!) my local shop even run free classes twice weekly for customers- lovely stuff
