I have never used them before, don't wear foundation but would like to start wearing concealer more and reduce the size of pores, even out skin texture etc.
I'm 52 with combination skin.

Becca Backlight Priming Filter. Its expensive but worth it, its actually the only expensive product I've ever come across which I think it actually worth it.

It takes my makeup from good to film-star amazing, even when I'm shattered or cold ridden. Sounds like boasting bit its pretty shocking the difference it makes. Even with no makeup over the top.

I have dry skin, which is now pretty much perfect thanks to sorting out my skincare, and the Backlight is one of the few hydrating silicone free primers out there. Silicones break me out Xmas Sad

Villagegreenpreservation · 30/12/2019 17:50

I was going to ask the same thing! But for one I could ideally buy in Boots with a voucher!

AlexaKimbo · 30/12/2019 17:51

I’m so glad you’ve said that eatenbydinosaurs as I was in SpaceNK earlier and bought that Becca one. Can’t wait to try it out tomorrow.

EatenByDinosaurs · 30/12/2019 17:53

I hope it works well for you too AlexaKimbo Smile I had a sample of the First Light one too, but the Backlight worked much better for me, and I've repurchased since. Its become my HG.

www.lookfabulousforever.com/smooth-like-silk-face-prime

I've never used a primer before but this feels amazing and smooths out my skin. I'm 61. You use the tiniest bit, lasts forever.

BigButtons · 30/12/2019 18:01

EatenByDinosaurs wow. That sounds amazing. I'm going to get some!

It is pretty remarkable BigButtons I was expecting to be underwhelmed but I wouldn't buy any other primer now - very rare for me as I love trying different products. It seems to make me glow with health, even when I'm feeling awful!

FMFL · 30/12/2019 18:15

Thanks guys have just ordered a Becca set from John Lewis! Smile

Ceejly · 30/12/2019 18:17

The Ordinary Sillicone primer. I love their skincare and this is cheap but makes everything look better. I use it with MAC Studio Fix Liquid and Hourglass Dim Light and frequently get asked about my skin and what i use.

BigButtons · 30/12/2019 18:57

Ah- I've heard about hourglass dim light. Not sure what it's supposed to do but it seems popular!

I've just looked at that Becca backlight primer online. Has anyone ever tried the Becca under eye brightening corrector? It looks expensive so my dark circles are so bad I would be willing to try anything!

bakedbeanzontoast · 30/12/2019 18:59

Snashbox just brought a new one for oily skin in a blue tube, it's the best I've tried. Don't rate Laura M or Armani primers though.

BigButtons · 30/12/2019 19:03

bettyboo I think Wayne Goss has done a review of it- think it is that one, deffo a becca undereye one. he highly recommends it for brightening under the eye.

ambereeree · 30/12/2019 19:06

Smashbox photo finish. Good enough to wear on its own.

BigButtons · 30/12/2019 19:10

I head about smash box. I suppose all decent primers have to be on the expensive side?

OP posts:
kshaw · 30/12/2019 19:12

I prefer boots no7 airbrush primer to the smashbox one...makes my skin feel nicer and you need so much less

Ollypollydolly · 30/12/2019 19:13

L’Oréal infallible. Makes my makeup look smooth and stay put for longer. It’s also cheap as I’m cheap

PrincessHoneysuckle · 30/12/2019 19:18

There is a smash box dupe on amazon the brand is W7.Same tube, same consistency of product and only around £4 I think its great

SoftBlocks · 30/12/2019 19:18

REN perfect canvas. It doesn’t have silicone so doesn’t have that creepy slimy feel but is a bit pricey - £40!

bettyboo40 · 30/12/2019 19:23

Thanks OP. I've ordered a set that was reduced in John Lewis with both a mini primer and under eye corrector so I can try them both out.

Cambionome · 30/12/2019 19:25

I've just ordered the Becca one so hoping for the best!!

DimplesMcGee · 30/12/2019 19:26

I really like the YSL Touche blur primer. Have the BECCA one but it doesn’t do anything special for me.

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 30/12/2019 19:26

I don’t use a primer but prep the skin accordingly with the right skincare. (I’m a make up artist)

I love the Becca under eye brightening corrector. You only need a little bit and tap it gently on to cancel out any blue/purple tones under the eye. Then a nice hydrating concealer over the top. I used it to cover a bruise under one of my brides recently and it worked great.

Fruityb · 30/12/2019 19:34

Men’s Nivea aftershave balm. It’s awesome.

I also like Mark primer and setting spray from Avon and Insta and Go by Rimmel.

BigButtons · 30/12/2019 19:45

I have heard about the aftershave balm!
I have just ordered The hourglass ambient dim lighting.
I have heard good things about the elf face putty for its for minimising qualities and price point.
Am sorely tempted by the Becca but am worried I might look like a disco ball if i wear it with the hour glass. Hmm
