Natural looking lipstick?

theatrenerd31 · 28/12/2019 23:56

I'm struggling to find the right shade of natural lipstick. I'm using no 7 in "honey bloom" at the moment, but it just does look quite right - slightly too brown I think. Google's recommending pillow talk by Charlotte Tillsbury but I'm not sure I can justify £25 on one lipstick, especially without being able to test it first!

Can anyone recommend a good natural shade please? I'm naturally very pale, but my lips are quite pink. Hoping to find a "my lips but better" type of shade but failing miserably so far!

Definitely Charlotte Tilbury in Pillow Talk shade - it's so natural.

There was a thread in this recently

ClientListQueen · 29/12/2019 00:06

Lipstick queen - the truth is my favourite

ClientListQueen · 29/12/2019 00:07

To add, I am pale, cool toned. Pillow talk on me is too dark and too brown

Sarcelle · 29/12/2019 00:08

Pillow Talk is oft quoted as suiting everybody. It doesn't, makes me look like a corpse, and has a drying texture.

theatrenerd31 · 29/12/2019 00:10

I'm not sure how I find specific recent threads, I'm on the app and the search function gives me things in a random date order!

I really don't think I can justify the cost of pillow talk, I'm not an avid enough make up user to spend that much on one lipstick. I'd potentially reconsider if I could test it first but there's nowhere near me that has it to check the colour on my skin and stuff doesn't seem to go on the same colour with my colouring unfortunately!

Not heard of lipstick queen! I'll have a google thank you :)

I've got caramello by Stila and it looks very natural on me. I'm not very pale though, more mid pale.

ScrambledSmegs · 29/12/2019 00:13

Pillow talk is orange on me - I'm quite pale with cool toned skin and pink lips.

Still haven't found the perfect shade but Clarins Woodberry is close. I suit lipsticks with a mauve/purple tone. Anything else is too warm.

ATowelAndAPotato · 29/12/2019 00:15

I wear Revlon colourburst lip crayon in sultry. I find that when most people think of nude/natural lips, they tend to pick beigey/brown colours, but like skin, lips come in lots of different colours so you do need to play around with what suits you. I have to find something much pinker than I would have expected for it to look natural on.

I'm also wearing Bobbi brown crushed liquid lip in hippy shake which is another great nude

suze28 · 29/12/2019 00:22

Bobbi Brown liquid lip in Hippy Shake is a great nude on me. I can't wear anything brown toned so a blue toned pink suits.

IdblowJonSnow · 29/12/2019 00:29

What would be a good natural shade on me please? I'm warm toned but fairly pale. Hazel eyes and mid brown hair. Thank you.

SurpriseSparDay · 29/12/2019 00:29

Really niche, and even more expensive than the one you mention, but the Gucci website makes it wondrously easy to choose colours with accuracy. (Lipstick is the only cosmetic available on the site at the moment.) They show each shade on a range of bare-faced models and it’s rather entertaining to browse through the results.

I have very different colouring to you so can’t make a suggestion, but the shade that arrived in the post is, weirdly, closer to the colour of my lips than anything I’ve tried before - even customised, mixed in front of me things. (Also, the packaging is ridiculously pretty.)

thr33andme · 29/12/2019 00:32

I'm quite pale and prefer a natural lip. MAC Velvet Teddy fits the bill nicely. Brown without being too brown, a bit pink for a natural tone, matte but not drying and doesn't look chalky at all.

twoturtledove · 29/12/2019 00:32

Velvet Teddy by MAC?

lexiepuppy · 29/12/2019 00:36

Velvet Teddy or Faux by Mac

Butterymuffin · 29/12/2019 00:40

I would go and poke about at your nearest
Primark as they have tons of decent nude lip colours and they are mostly £1, so trying some out isn't too painful! There was a good thread on Primark make up on here recently that prompted me to look.

ChequerBoard · 29/12/2019 00:41

Nars Dolce Vita is a lovely natural colour and a really moisturising formula. Don't waste your money on Charlotte Tilbury, nothing J have ever tried from that range has been any good, I think it's a triumph of packaging over performance.

Ladyratterley · 29/12/2019 00:45

If you have a Mac counter nearby then definitely ask their recommendations.
I am dark haired and pale with pink lips. Pillow talk lipstick looks rank on me! Although weirdly the lip liner in the same shade suits me.
Mac Viva Glam 2 & Blankety work for me. And M&S Autograph lip crayon in Supermodel smile.

abitoflight · 29/12/2019 00:53

So glad you asked this
My favourite has been discontinued and I have even run out despite buying up 3 at a time from eBay - it was bourjois colour boost proudly naked. Recommended on MN
I like a wet feeling lipstick so definitely no matte.
I'm googling all the recommendations

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/12/2019 02:10

Another vote for Mac Velvet Teddy. And you can get a mini for a tenner to try it before committing to the full size one.

Honeybee85 · 29/12/2019 02:13

Givenchy Le Rouge in Rose Diaphane.
It’s expensive but absolutely gorgeous.

Honeybee85 · 29/12/2019 02:15

MAC Mehr is very lovely too

Housewife2010 · 29/12/2019 06:42

I don't like Pillow Talk or Velvet Teddy. My favourites are Laura Mercier in Bare Lips and Baby Lips. They are both gorgeous natural flattering shades which feel very comfortable on my dry lips.

BitOfFun · 29/12/2019 06:51

Charlotte Tilbury 'Bond Girl' is better for me than 'Pillow Talk'.
