Will I look like the 'other bride' if I wear this to a wedding?

I've got a bespoke suit that looks exactly like this i.pinimg.com/474x/11/b5/56/11b556c01631d69ac6ed1e14e43add1b--boy-meets-girl-androgynous-fashion.jpg in this exact colour i.pinimg.com/474x/3c/fd/aa/3cfdaa38bc0cdf8e1eaf895d7c15714f--ralph-lauren-collection.jpg. Was all set to wear it to a wedding (in Australia if it makes a difference) late next March, but am now having second thoughts because a friend of mine told me that I'd end up looking like the one marrying the bride!

Should I start panicking now?

The suit in grey just screams that you’re party of the grooms party

How? There are likely to be other men in grey suits who aren't part of the groom's party - the bride's father, for one. You don't even know if the groom will be wearing grey.

LaMarschallin · 28/12/2019 10:20

In fact I think it’s rather lovely and stylish, a la Cara Delivinge at Harry and Meghan’s wedding.

Oh I loved Cara Delevingne's outfit too!

However, that was mainly because the family and I had great fun placing bets on when Oliver and the other orphans would appear and launch into "Consider Yourself".
Bit like the "All You Need is Love" bit in "Love Actually".

finn1020 · 28/12/2019 10:27

It’s too hot to wear that in March in many parts of Australia anyway.

Beautiful3 · 28/12/2019 10:31

I think it's nice, and fine to wear in grey. Lots of men will be wearing suits in different colours. No ones going to mistake them as the groom?!

Lockshunkugel · 28/12/2019 10:32

Could you consider wearing a jumpsuit instead? I would avoid wearing a grey suit because of the heat and to avoid looking like part of the bridal party.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 28/12/2019 10:34

You could maybe get away with it by styling it with bright accessories (not in the "bridal party" colour!) but I don't think I'd wear it.

StellaRockafella · 28/12/2019 10:35

OP, Ignore the pearl-clutchers! It's fine! Of course you can wear a light grey trouser suit to a wedding. It's chic and modern. I'd much rather someone wore a trouser suit like this to my wedding than an identi-kit floral dress and hideous fascinator.

Personally I'd wear it with a pretty lace trimmed silk cami underneath it, a shirt might be too office-y.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 28/12/2019 10:36

Ignore the pearl-clutchers!

Yes, let's start insulting people just because they have a different but equally valid opinion. 🙄

StellaRockafella · 28/12/2019 10:40

To the poster who said It's gorgeous, but you'll look like the betrayed lesbian partner of the bride ...

Hmm

WOW. Really? Can't decide if you're being sarcastic or are just ignorant and narrow-minded.
Straight women do wear trouser suits you know, (and shock horror, some lesbians wear dresses).

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 28/12/2019 10:42

My first thought was that it did look rather wedding party-ish however without the silk tie and buttonhole it should be lovely.

What kind of shoes were you thinking?

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 28/12/2019 10:43

If you're not into wearing dresses/skirts, then maybe go for linen trousers and a more colourful top?

Ridiculousanx · 28/12/2019 10:47

I think it looks both beautiful and appropriate, especially if you style it right.

Daisydoola · 28/12/2019 10:50

I would wear the trousers and a different top.

BillieEilish · 28/12/2019 10:50

Honestly why post a complete wedding outfit to show/demonstrate the colour and then a completely different trouser suit but in white?

Clearly, you are thinking along lines that aren't appropriate or wanting to cause a stir.

Or planning to wear the second outfit? Or the first in white? Or your post is totally misleading. Or something. If they had the first in grey just say that... don't link to the wedding party outfit just because it happens to be grey. Hmm

A deliberately misleading/strange post

yellowallpaper · 28/12/2019 10:54

What! It's a light coloured suit, not a white lacy dress. Of course it's fine to a wedding. What a load of crap advice you're getting here. So no one could wear a white shift dress, with a red belt and shoes, because of the white element? No one would mix you up with the bride. Wear it, looks great

Chloemol · 28/12/2019 10:55

No, its bridal party even in grey.

GreenTulips · 28/12/2019 11:06

Go get yourself a flowery dress from Coast

Well except they’ve gone bust ..., as you were

LaMarschallin · 28/12/2019 11:06

Ignore the pearl-clutchers! It's fine! Of course you can wear a light grey trouser suit to a wedding. It's chic and modern. I'd much rather someone wore a trouser suit like this to my wedding than an identi-kit floral dress and hideous fascinator.

You'd best have a dress-code then.
And do run it past posters here:
MN just loves a good dress-code thread.

I haven't seen any pearl clutching (personally, I only wear diamonds and those only after 6pm).
Just things either saying the suit would be fine or maybe it's not fine (especially if you're having to ask a load of strangers on the internet) although you'd doubtless look lovely. And so forth.

Funnily enough, yours is the most "pearl clutchy" post I've seen*: adjectives like "identi-kit" and "hideous" for what are probably perfectly fine dresses and headgear.

Ultimately, the OP will make up her own mind and, in the meantime, don't take it as a personal insult if someone has a different opinion from you.

*Apart from mine about Cara Delevingne. Oh, how we sniggered.

TheDevilWearsPantsuits · 28/12/2019 11:06

The reason I picked that second photo, BillieEilish was simply because it was the one photo I found that colour matched the one I have. There are so many shades of grey and colour was an important part of the decision making process. Nothing to do with 'wanting to cause a stir' I assure you. Confused

What a load of crap advice you're getting here.

Yes, like yours.

Or is it just a different opinion...? 🤔

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 28/12/2019 11:09

As a previous poster said, I do think you could wear just the trousers with a bright top and no jacket.

TheDevilWearsPantsuits · 28/12/2019 11:09

To the PP that mentioned it, I love heels, but the last time I wore a dress was more than 10 years ago and I don't really want to start wearing one again now.

OP posts:
Inforthelonghaul · 28/12/2019 11:13

I wore a cream trouser suit to a wedding once. It wasn’t remotely bride like and was the only thing I had that was smart enough at the time. I wore a brown hat and brown heels and had a brown leather bag. Don’t think anyone confused me with the woman in the long white dress.

BillHadersNewWife · 28/12/2019 11:13

Living as I do in Australia, I can tell you now...that suit will look odd at a March wedding.

It MIGHT pass at a city wedding in winter.
