My daughter is similar to Louise in age. She never wears make up, or dresses up, studies hard, has lots of friends, male as well as female. If I was walking her to church in front of shed loads of press, I would tell her to wear the most boring unassuming clothes possible, that would not get commented upon at all!

QueenOfTheAndals · 30/12/2019 09:49

Yes I've seen plenty of twentysomethings in those coats @frugalkitty but it's what they wear under them that makes a difference!

Anne was so stylish back then.

Frugal are you talking about the Maxmara Teddy coats? Truly hideous!

Isn’t it common practice Amongst Royals to borrow from your DM for special occasions? I bet she dresses differently elsewhere, and just wore this coat for the purpose of looking proper for church. . Girls her age do dress in huge shapeless coats with turned up 90s jeans and sweatshirts. So she is not that far off.

I’ve had a huge clear out recently and decided to consign some of my bags and clothes I no longer wear ,but I kept some for my My DDs . They are still small 8 and nearly 5. But seeing how Hermès Bags and Chanel clothes hardly go out of fashion. I’m sure they will find a way to spruce them up When they are old enough. Wink

Interesting article about the rising popularity of the royal family in the last 10 years. Also a great slide show of Meghan's looks from 2019. I'd forgotten some of them already!

@queenofarles
How fabulous for your daughters to have vintage Chanel & Hermes to inherit!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 30/12/2019 13:23

@NoGravyForYou

I was quite amused to see how fast William’s hairline receded during the 2010s!

Meghan’s style retrospective was interesting. None of her dresses ( in that slideshow) were very appealing. However her casual separates were totally on point.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 30/12/2019 13:26

Beautiful photographs in slideshow by royal photographer Chris Jackson

banivani · 30/12/2019 13:34

@paradyning interesting link about the clothes stats - are there similar compilations for other royalty?

When it comes to the clothes of minors I'd prefer a more distanced, academic discourse on, for example, formal wear for the young or similar.

itswinetime · 30/12/2019 13:35

I agree I think Meghan is still finding her formal royal look but her casual game has always been strong.

Kate year fashion wise was saved by the Pakistan tour it was all very boring and sameness apart from that.

Let's hope for some more royal tours in 2020 they seem to bring out the royals a game style wise.

NoGravyForYou · 30/12/2019 14:10

Chris Jackson has taken some beautiful photos of the royals this year. The black and white ones of camilla, Sophie and Meghan were especially stunning.

TSSDNCOP · 30/12/2019 14:25

Prince Charles looks like he’s having the time of his life in those photos.

QueenOfTheAndals · 30/12/2019 14:44

So, Kate and Meghan's best looks of 2019? For evening wear I'd say the green Jenny Packham from the Pakistan tour for Kate and the navy sequinned Mouret from the Albert Hall for Meghan. What about their daywear?

My favourite Kate evening and daywear first this year.

For me I think these are there strongest day looks but you all will probably remember loads I have forgotten and prefer!

Agree on Megan's evening wear I think it's hard with Kate the green sequinned gown was probably her most successful look but I'm leaning towards the black velvet although it wasn't perfect it was a bit different for her and I really want her to break the predictable style wise.

I’m not sure if it’s an exhaustive list but Kate’s hats and a few headbands of 2019

Love that red leather skirt and berry sweater combo on meghan.
That and the equivalent green skirt and silk shirt combos are amongst my favourites of hers.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 30/12/2019 15:08

I know this outfit wasn’t super popular, but I liked it.
Normally Meghan wears her hair up with a hat, so I like her hair properly styled when down and the hat was the perfect style and and angle.

Full length outfit; I think navy is more flattering on Meghan than black.
I also liked the boots as opposed to shoes. They worked better with her proportions.

Gorgeous photos from Chris Jackson.
I love the one of Kate wearing black and white and petting an Army dog.

QueenOfTheAndals · 30/12/2019 15:57

Yep I think the red leather combo for Meghan was her best daytime look for the year. And for Kate the purple blouse with trousers, also because it was a departure from the ubiquitous coat dress!

QueenOfTheAndals · 30/12/2019 15:58

Meghan nailed hair and makeup at all her appearances.

That slideshow whips through the pictures! Is there any way to slow it down or go through each one separately? I want to study each one in greater detail. 🙂

Becles · 30/12/2019 16:47

I think it was a tough year for Meghan style wise.

Her stomach sort of popped early and it was one of those bumps that altered shape whenever the baby somersaulted Crown Grin

She definitely had an established image of herself that Kate didn't and little time to build a working style from which to adapt a pregnancy look.

Some of her misses for me was when she didn't let go of her usual tailored look for looser styles. Successes were the eventual embracing of the galleon in full sail that some pregnant stomachs can look. She suffered from media comparison to Kate's very small and compact pregnancy bellies and a shape that changed between morning and evening engagements.

Kate for me had strong evening wear (burn the Erdem Kate. Burn it all!!), owning the awfulness of headbands without giving a fuck and whenever she stopped trying to dress like a 70 year old woman. So trousers, less formal events with mud or kids. She just needs trousers that don't cut off circulation to stop me wincing when I see her skinnies.

Beatrice and Eug: For taking risks and enjoying style chances at their finger tips. Eug does need a bra intervention, but I'd kill for their shoe and handbag collection.

Bea gets an honorable mention for the green Christmas day headband that did make me consider buying one of my own.

TSSDNCOP · 30/12/2019 16:52

Becles I was not a fan of the York’s headbands. Eug looked not unlike Ena Sharples.

Ocomeocomeimaginaryfleas · 30/12/2019 17:26

Eug looked not unlike Ena Sharples.

That's who she reminded me of!Grin

QueenOfTheAndals · 30/12/2019 17:32

The Yorks (and Meghan) give excellent shoe!
