How do you wear ankle boots with short fat legs?

WhoisitnowRalph · 21/12/2019 08:32

I have a 29" inside leg and NO ankles. It's literally calf into foot with hardly any narrowing at all. I'm also a bit fat (16/18).

Consequently, ankle boots tend to look shit on me - I can just about pull them off with skinny jeans/jeggings as they have a closer fit, but work trousers, ankle grazers and treggings are never quite the right length - instead of tapering evenly, the hems jutt out at the back from my wide calves, and don't sit right. So I can never wear comfy ankle boots for work, which is a shame as I have some lovely Lipsy boots I bought for work, which I can only ever wear with jeans.

Any ideas, has anyone overcome short leg problems with work trousers? I wear drapey floaty tops so don't really wear wide leg trousers any more.

And no I can't wear them with a dress, I have short fat elephant legs so I just look like an egg in boots.

I've got legs like that and I just wear whatever I want. I wear ankle boots with literally everything. All lengths of skirts, jeans etc.

missfliss · 21/12/2019 11:24

i think you have to just not care that much. I have cankles. I will never have beautiful delicate ankles and look gazelle like. As much as i wish i did, it just ain't ever going to happen. I do find ones with a low vamp flattering (a kind of deep V in the front)

Thinkle · 21/12/2019 12:25

I have this, if you look for a boot that has a dip at the front it has a slimming effect... will google what I mean and share...

lotusbell · 21/12/2019 12:27

I have a 27" inside leg and am.pretty apple shaped, size 12/14, just about 5ft.skinny jeans and ankle boots make me look like I have trotters. I have huge calves but don't have cankles. It is a nightmare, so I feel your pain!

Bluntness100 · 21/12/2019 12:31

I don't think an inside leg of 29 inches is short to be honest, unless you're very tall?

FrazzledCareerWoman · 21/12/2019 12:32

I have fat ankles / calves as well - ankle boots with a V shape at the front are the most flattering but hard to find.

FrazzledCareerWoman · 21/12/2019 12:34

My inside leg is 31 to ankle bone but I wear 30 leg skinny jeans as regular (32) bunch up . I'm 5'6"

FrazzledCareerWoman · 21/12/2019 12:35

And my legs are average/short relative to torso

pastapestoparmesan · 21/12/2019 12:36

Put them on your feet and do them up, if you like them. Who cares what anyone else thinks.

WingingItSince1973 · 21/12/2019 15:26

Yay other people with legs like mine 😭 Been the bane of my life for all 46 years but now I just embraced my style which is usually a chunkier boot or one with a heel which helps elongate the calf a bit. X

Moominfan · 21/12/2019 15:39

Op I think your me 😊 I've been wearing poor mans dr martens through winter regardless of my candles

Moominfan · 21/12/2019 15:39

Cankles even

Tinytimoteo · 21/12/2019 15:46

Best bet is not to care and 29 leg isnt that short??
Lose the weight i guess, dont wear ankle boots if you cant bear it? Trousers and boots same colour? Veryfew people look comfortable and stunning in practical sensible clothes.
A lot depends on your proportions. If you have a long torso then wear stuff to shorten it

StarUtopia · 21/12/2019 15:52

I only came on to say 29 isn't that short. Mine are 26 and I"m 5.3.

Besidesthepoint · 21/12/2019 15:54

I have fat ankle with or without ankle boots so I just gave up and wear them. Wearing other types of shoes don't make my ankles suddenly look slim. For instance heels, I have pretty decent looking feet but it still looks like an eliphant on stilts.

winterisstillcoming · 21/12/2019 15:55

Try a shoe boot??? I love them and they make my legs look a little longer

CharitySchmarity · 21/12/2019 16:13

Try to get ankle boots with a V shaped notch at the front, they make your legs look a bit longer. And always wear them with opaques. Short legs in shiny tights don't look that good (I should know!)

Bluntness100 · 21/12/2019 16:27

Isn't 29 the regular trouser leg that clothes are usually made to?

WhoisitnowRalph · 21/12/2019 16:35

"Lose the weight" Grin Well fuck me why didn't I think of that. Thanks for all the responses but instead of looking into style ideas, I've decided to lose the weight as that will instantly solve my cankle and height problem. I mentioned weight for context, not as the cause of having stumpy legs. I had the same stumpy legs at a size 10 thanks.

OK maybe 29" "isn't that short" but all regular length trousers bunch up and a short length of 29" is still about an inch too long, so they sit just slightly too long over an ankle boot. A 27" short length is too short. And anyway, they all without exception, jutt out at the back of my leg. I never see them look like that on anyone else?

Never mind, they are clearly just not for me. As someone else mentioned, dainty shoe boots or a low boot with a V at the front make me look like I have trotters!

Regular leg is 30 or 31" I think.

Kenworthington · 21/12/2019 18:14

I’ve got cankles and am
Also a 16. I much much prefer ankle boots because they cover them up! So much better than in summer when I have to get them out AND they swell up in the heat giving me some weird extra ankle tyre. Ugh. I fucking hate them. I wear DMs and biker boots in the winter. No one knows what lurks underneath. Result!

Ticklemeelmo · 21/12/2019 18:20

Slouch boots are way more flattering on shorter legs than boots that taper at the top, most of mine are like that

FrazzledCareerWoman · 22/12/2019 15:37

30 is "short" fit
32 is "regular"
34 is "long" in trousers

beanaseireann · 22/12/2019 15:57

WhoisitnowRalph
You just have to accept that you can wear ankle boots but they draw attention to your ankles or you just never wear ankle boots again. Your choice.
I have no waist and my stomach sticks out ( but great ankles Grin)
I never wear waisted clothing or belts.
