How do you wear ankle boots with short fat legs?

I have a 29" inside leg and NO ankles. It's literally calf into foot with hardly any narrowing at all. I'm also a bit fat (16/18).

Consequently, ankle boots tend to look shit on me - I can just about pull them off with skinny jeans/jeggings as they have a closer fit, but work trousers, ankle grazers and treggings are never quite the right length - instead of tapering evenly, the hems jutt out at the back from my wide calves, and don't sit right. So I can never wear comfy ankle boots for work, which is a shame as I have some lovely Lipsy boots I bought for work, which I can only ever wear with jeans.

Any ideas, has anyone overcome short leg problems with work trousers? I wear drapey floaty tops so don't really wear wide leg trousers any more.

And no I can't wear them with a dress, I have short fat elephant legs so I just look like an egg in boots.

Buy the 30" trousers and take them up an inch? To be honest I just wear whatever I like nowadays. You probably think you look awful but really don't.

just wear what you feel good in rather than worrying about what is right or wrong or you can or can't do according to some ridiculous'rule'!

I too have this problem. I am nearly 5 ft and a size 16- i have big calves and no ankles. When i was a Size 8 i had big calves and no ankles (yes maybe slightly slimmer than now but still big enough that a few people commented on my chunky legs). As a result i never wear dresses and until recently never wore skinny jeans. Now i dont care! I also wear slouchy ankle boots and biker boots. I may look odd but there are a lot odder and who cares anyway.

If you have some Lipsy boots you like, concentrate on getting some trousers to work with them exactly? If you can't sew or taper them yourself, and it's not easy to get it right, let your local dry cleaners do it. It won't be that expensive.

Oh I love the honesty of this thread. Very refreshing. I am short and dumpy, with huge calves. I somehow have a frame that managed to look short and stumpy even when I was a size 8/10 in my youth. Grin

Now an 18, with huge calves, I wear ankle boots even though they run the risk of making me look like a hobbit or Mrs Tittlemouse.

I figured vanity can wait for the day I lose weight. In the meantime I prefer comfort. Lol.

I have seen some very low v boots on a friend that has chunky legs according to her but they look great. Sadly they’re last season and I can’t find any close. They were a beautiful olive green too. I’d anyone sees any other ones like the Clarks but lower v I’d be v keen

InspiratrixLestrange · 02/09/2020 16:01

I found some great low v vamp ones in the Next outlet - kind of bronze colour and a chunky heel. I still have fat ankles but they are more flattering than most!

Can you post a photo of what this boot/trouser combo would ideally look like?

I can imagine ankle boots with skinny jeans or with long wide flares, or possibly cropped trousers (though not crazy about that look for myself), but I think they just don't go with regular length trousers. Could you just wear flats or lace ups instead? Equally comfortable and they won't bollocks up the hemline.

Also, cankles aren't really about weight. I have a BMI of 19 and I have them. The best ankle boots either have a hidden wedge or as others have said are dipped at the front. Look at the various Isabel Marant styles for ideas.

I lost weight .. they always looked shit on me at a size 14...
If you want to the only way it worked was to wear skinny jeans and a longer jumper so the middle bit doesn't show .

@FrazzledCareerWoman

30 is "short" fit 32 is "regular" 34 is "long" in trousers
Can that be right, when 31" is regular for a bloke? I only know that because I buy trousers sometimes for 4 six-footers, and 31 is fine on them. I did have a taller boyfriend many years ago (6'3") who wore a 33" leg, but that was unusual and quite hard to find.
LividLaughLovely · 02/09/2020 17:28

Tights and skirts/dresses with the ankle boots instead of trousers.

@DelphiniumBlue
You're right. I am 5'9'' and am fine with a 31 inch leg, though would ideally have 32 for heels. (Women apparently have longer legs proportionately... not that mine LOOK very long.) In fact, it's hard even to find a pair of jeans these days with a 30'' leg.

Hence the peculiar fashion for trousers being cropped. In the adverts, all models are now all wearing cropped trousers. In reality, most women are wearing normal length ones. So one problem comes when you're, like me, model height but do not have model legs!
