I'm looking for a very warm but botally waterproof coat.
What one would you recommend from North Face or Didrickson ?

DS has Didrikson stuff and I’ve been so impressed by it. Me & DH have had north face stuff for walking/scouting for years but I’m definitely going to be looking at didriksons for my next coat first as I feel that north face is becoming more trendy and less outdoorsy as it has been...

CottonSock · 14/12/2019 19:02

I'm not disappointed with my didrickson parka. Hood stays up, it's really cosy and 100% waterproof.

Neolara · 14/12/2019 19:02

I have a 10 year old Didrickson. It's robustly waterproof. It's pretty warm but I'd buy it big enough to put lots of layers underneath.

Thank you

I struggled to find a good warm waterproof coat and despite trying on loads, including Didrikson and NF I ended up getting one from Asda! Only £50. Totally waterproof and warm. Lovely fit. Absolute bargain. It’s this one direct.asda.com/george/women/coats/ozark-khaki-waterproof-technical-parka/GEM695952,default,pd.html?cgid=D1M1G20C6

Has great reviews.

Didrikson. I have a 6 year old coat that looks brand new despite being worn for every job going.
I managed to buy a large teen size which fits fine, saved a load of money.

Fuzzywuzzyhadnohair · 15/12/2019 07:05

I bought this Didrikson Parker in the Black Friday sale and I absolutely love it, it’s so warm and cosy.

Didriksons all the way, I’ve got the Pysen coat. It’s knee length, hugely warm, hood stays up. Walked baby DD2 to vote in the pouring rain and was cosy and dry the whole way. Best winter coat I’ve owned.

FeltCarrot · 15/12/2019 07:14

I’ve got the Pysen too, it’s very light and extremely warm, have been out in the rain and stayed dry. I find the hood quite large though Mynameis, how do you get yours to stay up?

Mamia15 · 15/12/2019 07:27

Use the adjustments to make your hood fit better

FeltCarrot · 15/12/2019 07:32

The pysen doesn’t have any toggles on the hood to pull it tighter.

Inforthelonghaul · 15/12/2019 07:55

I’ve just looked up that Asda coat @venezia222 and it looks like amazing value for money. I need a new coat desperately so will be off to Asda this week to try it in.

SunnySomer · 15/12/2019 07:57

Didrikson. I have one that’s 9 years old and still totally waterproof. And still looks good. Worn almost daily

fruitpastille · 15/12/2019 08:04

Thanks for the Asda rec! Really want a new coat for dog walking. I won't mind a bit of mud on a 50 quid one Grin

MynameisJune · 15/12/2019 08:04

@FeltCarrot I like the large hood because I don’t like tight things on me head/around my face. It will only stay up in the wind with the zip all the way up to the top. Other than that it stays up okay 🤷‍♀️

BikeRunSki · 15/12/2019 08:10

Didrikson

I’ve been working and playing outdoors for 30 years. TNF went very trendy 15 years or so ago and isn’t always a serious out-door gear as it could be.

Patagonia is worth a look too. I have a warm and waterproof “Infurno” jacket of theirs, which is amazing and 20 years old.

Land’s End also worth a look. Tend to be a bit cheaper, and they are always having discount days.

beanaseireann · 15/12/2019 09:40

I don't think the Pysen, which looks lovely is waterproof.
The Asda one looks great and is such good value venezia222

Good stuff! Hope you all like it! It’s def waterproof as had it on at sons football this week and was pouring down. Very warm. I only have it on black but they have it in green now. I doubt it would be as good in the actual Arctic like the NF ones but it’s pretty good for the UK.

I am quite evangelical about it because it’s such value for money!😂

PhonicTheHedgehog · 15/12/2019 10:37

Shhhhhh about the Asda coat! I was going to buy one for DD who is in Primary but wears adult sizes. I’m fed up at the thought of spending on an adult coatvtgats going to get kicked around the playground in a “jumpers for goalposts “ moment. I don’t get paid till just before Christmas so if you could keep this coat between ourselves?! Grin

FeltCarrot · 15/12/2019 11:40

I’ve been in some torrential downpours in my pysen this week and stayed dry.

tiredandgrumpy · 15/12/2019 11:51

I bought a Didrikson Karen after recommendation on here. Awesome choice! Totally waterproof, loads of pockets, not bad styled & is still looking new after a few years dog-walking.

beanaseireann · 15/12/2019 11:59

Thats good to hear feltcarrot

Yep my Pysen is most definitely waterproof, water pools on it/runs off rather than soaking in.

beanaseireann · 15/12/2019 15:10

MynameisJune
Thanks for that info.
