New Year Goals. Accountability Thread

Writersblock2 · 08/12/2019 21:03

While I’m loathe to call them New Year’s resolutions, I wanted to start a thread to hold myself accountable with some of the goals I want to work towards next year. Fee free to join in with your own.

So the first one for me is the biggest: diet and exercise. I’ve successfully done keto in the past but I had a crap time earlier in this year and came off and piles it back on. My plan is to get back on keto after Xmas and stay on. I also want to get back into the habit of exercising on a regular basis because I always feel better when I do.

The next is sleep. I’m a crap sleeper. I always think I need to stay up late to get things done and then suffer for it later. Doesn’t help I’m naturally a night owl. So I want to work on getting more (and better) sleep after Christmas.

Self-care is the last one, which links in with the others above. Taking time to look after myself on a regular basis to try and keep stress levels down. Making sure I take time to have a bath and not just showers all the time. Doing my nails. Face masks. Just little things that perk me up. More water!

What about you?

Self care is going to be a top priority for me too next decade.
I'm looking at the wider picture as in making good choices everyday re food, activity, rest, being creative, being organised to save stress, saying what I mean to say and not taking other peoples shit and remembering to practise being present (must dig out the Eckhart Tolle books).

I have been a SAHM for years and this is the year I plan to go back out into the world.

Last weekend I went to see the Mary Quant exhibition and surprised myself by loving the masculine look to some of her outfits.
When Christmas is over I want to experiment with a new style that's not jeans, trainers and sweatshirt.

I had Botox in my 11 lines for the first time a few days ago and am really happy with the result (not that any other bugger has noticed 🙄) and will keep that up.
I'll try with nails as I love them freshly done but I just cba to sit there in the salon for an hour every 2 weeks.

This'll be interesting to read back to myself in a year!

Writersblock2 · 09/12/2019 00:12

Those are some great goals! I think the key is what you said: small daily habits that build to create a better longer term picture!

I love Botox too. Need some more in the New Year.

I hope you come back and report on all of your progress!

Great idea for a thread! Goals for next year would be:

  1. Start redecorating our house
  2. Have a baby
  3. Generally be a bit more 'on it' with regards to staying organised, keeping the house clean and tidy, getting up earlier
  4. Start teaching yoga
Littlefiendsusan · 11/12/2019 17:56

I've just thought of another one!
I want to be the kind of woman who always has lipstick on so I've bought 3 same shade lippies from Primark and keep them in strategic places to achieve this.

Runneryogi · 11/12/2019 18:05

Wear sunscreen every day!

Writersblock2 · 11/12/2019 18:20

@Littlefiendsusan that’s a great idea! I want to be like that too but I never stop enough to remember to check my lips. I think I’m destined to generally look a bit frazzled!

OP posts:
Writersblock2 · 11/12/2019 18:21

@timswifey great list! I didn’t think to add non-beauty things. I should though. Finish my module and apply for my Masters degree should be on there! Complete my novel. Save money!

OP posts:
Rosere · 11/12/2019 18:28

This is a great idea. Self care for me too as lack of was nearly the ruination of me over the last few years.

  1. Get back out and do yoga or weightlifting again. Anything, just out and active and doing my own thing.
  2. Drink water. And pee. I suck at both.
  3. Learn to do something with my hair/nails just to look generally more polished.

Good luck to us😊😊

Rosere · 11/12/2019 18:29

And like you @Writersblock2, finish my Masters.

timswifey · 11/12/2019 19:34

Oh woops @Writersblock2 I didn't get the memo that we're thinking of Style and Beauty resolutions Blush

Writersblock2 · 11/12/2019 21:18

@timswifey - no, I like you added those other things! It all adds to overall health, right?

Littlefiendsusan

This stuff stays on until I take it off. Literally 24 hours.

Littlefiendsusan · 11/12/2019 22:36

@writersblock 😩 I know, my sympathies, I think I'm destined for frazzledom too!

@StCharlotte ooh, thank you, will check these out .

Writersblock2 · 11/12/2019 23:58

@StCharlotte I use this too but for me, the only one that stays on 24 hours is Lover. Which is quite bizarre. Still love them though.

Wear facial sun block everyday. I'm generally pretty good at this but there are days when it's raining and I can't be arsed.
Get down to my goal weight! I have lost 3 stone in the second part of this year and I want to lose another 2 and a half next year and then maintain it.
Put more effort into the clothes I'm wearing. I'm a really all or nothing person so it's either full make up, hair presentable and nice outfit or bag lady. I need to try and find a balance here!
Have more nice baths! The kind with bubbles, a hot drink and a candle burning. I've requested some books for Christmas which I'm hoping will be great reading for these baths.

WeCameToDanceWithTheDead · 12/12/2019 07:31

Also take the bloody multi vitamin that's staring you in the face everytime you open the cupboard. Seriously it couldn't be anymore obviously placed. Just take the damn thing. Daily. Rant to myself over.

StCharlotte · 12/12/2019 20:39

@Writersblock2 lover - that's the colour I wear. Haven't tried any of the others.

eatsleepmoverepeat · 12/12/2019 21:02

Great thread! I want to lose weight (yawn) and develop a more polished look.

timswifey · 12/12/2019 21:49

@WeCameToDanceWithTheDead well done on the weight loss!

Good goals 👍 and lol at the multivitamin.

WeCameToDanceWithTheDead · 13/12/2019 12:23

timswifey thank you! I can't take much credit for it. I developed gall stones so really didn't have a lot of choice but to change my diet. Hey ho, silver linings and all that.

mumdom · 13/12/2019 19:56

Found my people and marking my place and will return when my monsters are in bed.

mumdom · 15/12/2019 15:47

I’m 46 but with young children, short and fat, with really thin hair and pock marks from 30 years of PCOS. I’ve given up a bit. I want to work on myself both outside and inside, with better personal presentation and daily meditation which was so good for me pre-kids but is now long forgotten.

I’ve given up on ever reaching my goal weight now, but I’d love to be fitter aerobically, less addicted to caffeine, sugar and sweeteners, and alcohol free.

I am giving serious thought to re-training, but I’m also very keen on the idea of down-sizing and taking early retirement! I have sold myself short career-wise and I need to work through my feelings about that before making more plans.

timswifey · 16/12/2019 21:45

Hi @mumdom 😄

What do you think you'll tackle first? I have found giving up alcohol to be totally transformative.

I still have a drink every so often, say a couple of times a year but I'd say I'm 95% dry.

NowYouListenToMeFella · 16/12/2019 22:39

Great idea for a thread. I'll join too please. I have a few on the list. Give up the occasional fag with a drink. Has started to creep into non drinking days.

Do more with my hair. It's decent enough but I'm lazy. Try and work on clothes styling. I feel like I am always flung together.

Cut out the sweet treats. I've a milestone birthday the end of January and would like to drop a few pounds before then.

Be kinder to myself and look for a new job after the summer. I've 8 weeks unpaid leave booked and easier to stay there than try and get it off in a new place.

mumdom · 17/12/2019 20:23

I did wonder about kicking the booze first @Timswifey, but Diet Coke, tea and coffee are actually bigger addictions for me.

I’ve also eaten three Krispy Kremes and a whole load of other junk today. I’ve cancelled going to an event I was dreading, and seem to have lost control in the euphoria of finally backing out, IYKWIM.
