Keratosis Polaris please help

My dd is 16 And has Keratosis Polaris on her face and arms. She is so upset about it and at times it’s very uncomfortable and the rash is bright red. A dermatologist told us it will just go and nothing will help.
Does anyone have any recommendations. She is so self conscious about it.

I agree with the people who say to treat it as sensitive skin - Lush’s Sympathy for the Skin is really good for my KP and soaks in well. It’d be gentle enough to use on the face too. I tried the urea cream mentioned above but it wouldn’t sink into my skin and I felt I had a dirty scum on me. I am terrible at bothering to put cream on every day but when I do, this really helps. I’m going to try the starflower oil though!

Oh, and I think the sunbeds probably helped Louise97 as getting sun on mine is good for it!

Whatever you do please don't use Aqueous cream.
It's not a good product at all and according to the eczema society ( I think that's what they are called ) 50% of users are intolerant of it. Yet it's prescribed for nearly every skin condition going .

Sali Hughes recommends Palmers anti ageing lotion £4.09 from Boots. Apparently it smells revolting but she says it works . ( I posted previously too soon)
Good luck..skin conditions can be so distressing.

I get rid of mine with a hot flannel. Seems basic exfoliation works.

I really can’t thank everyone enough. I told her about how many replies there has been and she was quite emotional. I’ve ordered some Ameloirate and the Korean wash clothes. I’m going to look at supplements as well.
There is so much here I need to google a few things.
I do really appreciate all the replies you’re all so lovely. X

My son has KP on his cheeks and the cream he finds most effective is Aveeno ultra-calming anti-redness cream.

Gingertam · 08/12/2019 12:09

Another vote for Ameliorate. It doesn't work for everyone but some people swear by it. I have it on my arms in a mild form. As soon as I get some sun on my arms in summer it goes. Obviously be careful but the sun does help. I know it will depress her, but reassure her it does normally get better as you get older.

Goslowlysideways · 09/12/2019 06:59

I'll try the Aveeno thank you. @Gingertam thanks I will

my son 15 has this on his face and arms and is v self conscious as it is very red. He has been using Ameliorate which doesn't seem to be doing anything. Will try the Aveeno

BusterGonad · 09/12/2019 08:53

I had this on my arms and thighs, I no longer have it, I think it went with age, but I can vouch for Aveeno being a great cream, I use it on my face and covered my son in it as a toddler as he had terrible eczema as a toddler. It definitely won't do any harm. I think the secret to curing KP is gentle exfoliating and gentle but rich moisturising. Good luck.

Breathlessness · 09/12/2019 12:18

Most treatment is about managing it/improving the appearance of it rather than curing it. It does seem to get better with time and with sunlight. Mine has receded back to my arms after creeping towards my collar bone when I was younger.

agteacht · 11/12/2019 01:24

I had this on my upper arms for years and just by chance started using this Nip Fab exfoliator on my face as a general exfoliator. Tried it on my arms and it has completely removed it!!

Looking at nip fab reviews online their products seem to help this but I just found it by accident. Definitely worth you getting it for your daughter to try

@Goslowlysideways this popped in Mumsnet Swears by hence posting here.

MAsam do some fabulous scrubs/ exfoliants. They are gentle enough for the face. And the tubs are humongous - last for ages.
it’s a German brand I think and Amazon prices are extortionate so check QVC when they have deals or eBay.

how is your DD ?
