Mum boots

When does a boot become a "mum boot"?

(Disclaimer: Yes I know we're all mums so we all in theory wear mum boots but this is for those who know what I mean and aren't offended by the term!)

When it is comfortable (low blocky heel) and you'll get a lot of wear out of it because it goes with everything (black, very anonymous styling).

hammeringinmyhead · 30/11/2019 19:15

When it's from Pavers and looks like a Cornish pasty.

I'm pretty sure my Mum recently bought those Pavers boots in blue and was really proud of herself for being 'with it'. Yeah. Definitely a Mum Boot!

Er I think you need to post a pic so we can decide.

RubbishRubbishRubbish · 01/12/2019 16:33

An someone post an alleged mum boot? So I can evaluate my perimenopausal Street cred. Ta.

ZaraW · 01/12/2019 17:33

I've had the Acne Pistol ankle boots for years and still wear them. Quite a few people on here think they are mum boots. I don't care.

Flymetothetoon · 01/12/2019 18:29

Love to know your opinion of mine not really cos don't give a monkeys

Clarinet53 · 01/12/2019 20:23

My go to boots are Doc Martens. I have them in bright colours and glitter and silver. Always get comments on them wouldn't say they're mum boots thank goodness 😁

SpiderCharlotte · 01/12/2019 21:01

I'm sure some of mine are mum boots but sod it, I like comfort! (I think this probably confirms that my boots will be those of the mum ...)

queenofarles · 01/12/2019 21:27

A few years ago Acne pistols were dubbed mum boots here on MN, caused quite a kerfuffle. Grin It’s so hard to not associate them with MN,
Last year I wanted to get the Jensens but I couldn’t bring myself to buy them, still associate Acne boots with MN description of Mum boots.

Musicforsnorks · 02/12/2019 11:56

I don’t believe a mum boot exists.
It’s possibly just a terror of being perceived as dated and old.

A sort of contemporary malaise in. An ego driven, meaningless, consumer focused society. And it gets us to buy more shite! Yay for manipulating our feelings into buying more shite!

By mum boot logic - the dr marten is soon to join ranks, as women of a certain age are now adopting them to stay current.

This time next year the mn consensus will be ‘docs are dated and mumsy’.

And round we go again...

Hear hear Musicfornorks

Stumpedasatree · 02/12/2019 12:20

Converse, Doc Martens and Fly boots are what I call mumsy as I see them on most of my fellow mums, of school aged children. So what, it doesn't matter.

The Cornish pasty boots linked above are horrible and offend my eyes!

urkidding · 14/12/2019 09:46

Love the Cornish pasty boots! Street cred is about having the confidence to wear what your like, and run to catch the train in!!! And walk in and be fit! Tottering about in high heels is bad for your posture. I don't see men wearing stupid uncomfortable shoes!!!

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 14/12/2019 11:39

For me it is anything by Footglove.

BusterGonad · 15/12/2019 13:41

I agree Doc Martins are so popular now that they are really mum boots, I bought a pair of Converse last year and felt that I was 100% mumsy. I no longer wear them as they fucked my feet so it's a mixed blessing really. I don't like the Pistol boots so would never wear them. I do love a good mum boot thread.

fishonabicycle · 15/12/2019 14:31

Lots of mums wear Fly boots.

fishonabicycle · 15/12/2019 14:31

But who cares? Wear what you like!

GrammaH · 15/12/2019 16:30

I've got 5 pairs of Fly boots - so comfortable! So, are they mumboots or nanaboots?!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/12/2019 17:04

Add a pair of Boot Cut Jeans and you're "just begging for trouble with your bowl out " (in the words of Stan from dinnerladies )
