Vera Wang Engagement Rings??

MyNameIsMrsGrumpy · 29/11/2019 15:16

Hi all,

Dh has offered to buy me a new engagement ring, and this one from Vera Wang has caught my eye?

www.ernestjones.co.uk/webstore/d/5514983/vera+wang+18ct+white+gold+0.95ct+diamond+cluster+ring/?cm_mmc=SEM_Google:EJ%7C%7CDiamonds%7C%7CDiamond%20Rings%7C%7CMedium:EJ%7C%7CDiamonds%7C%7CDiamond%20Rings%7C%7CAll:5514983&gclid=Cj0KCQiAoIPvBRDgARIsAHsCw09o26KT2b5LGYnmGpYJVgL9_ooaLGBONQP7OmUg7NZEeddLQG0MbIkaAu_qEALw_wcB

Has anyone got one? Or a similar one? I’ve got some time tomorrow so will pop into the nearest jewellers and see what else they have!

Seems like a lot of money for not a lot of diamonds I think I just like the style.

Any help would be much appreciated

Dreadful value for money for lots of diamond chips. It’s 0.95 carat of low quality stones with lots of inclusions. For the same money you could buy a much better quality diamond like this www.bluenile.com/uk/diamond-details/LD01336586?refTab=DIAMONDS&track=viewDiamondDetails&catalogView=true
And put it in a setting like this. It would be far more sophisticated and you’d still have 0.95 carats on your finger.

roiseandjim · 29/11/2019 15:53

I like it!

Mintypea5 · 29/11/2019 15:58

You're paying for the Vera wang name there. You can buy much better clarity, Carat and colour do kinda for less than that!

MyNameIsMrsGrumpy · 29/11/2019 16:00

I wonder if maybe something custom would be better for nearly 4K I’m sure I could get something better I just really like the style.

Will see what Dh says.

It’s actually less diamond weight than I have now

I'm not keen on that cluster style, too fussy. And as NorthernGravy says, it's quite low quality stones. My taste runs to something more simple in design and higher quality.

Alez · 29/11/2019 16:20

Agree with everyone else - seems poor value for money, and also not keen on how fussy the ring is myself (though if that's what you like, go for it). If you know what you like, you could get a ring made just for you (or just ask them to copy something you see elsewhere).

Keepthebloodynoisedown · 29/11/2019 16:23

I’m not particularly keen on the style, but like pp have said, you could get that style with better quality diamonds for less than £4K if you’re not paying for the name.

DecomposingDurannie · 29/11/2019 16:28

Be wary of designer labels for jewellery... my ex made a big song and dance about buying me a ring from Cartier for our 20th wedding anniversary... it wasn't really to my taste and vastly overpriced for the materials involved, bought to satisfy his ego really! Anyhow, when we split 6 months later ( possibly it was a conscience easer too 😉), I sold it and some other jewellery he'd given me ( again not to my taste)as would never wear it and only got a fraction of its cost, particularly in comparison to other pieces.

Buy quality and set classically!

MyNameIsMrsGrumpy · 29/11/2019 16:31

I seem to be drawn to the fussy styles at the moment, I love the halo look.

I suspect you are all correct and I’m literally paying for the name Vera Wang stamped on it. Doesn’t even have to be Vera Wang I just like the style.

Off back to google...

I think with a ring that size you run the risk of it looking like it came out of a lucky bag. Sorry OP, I think you'd be better to buy quality over quantity.

Doobigetta · 29/11/2019 16:32

Presumably the cluster of lots of small stones means they can get away with them being low quality. My engagement ring is quite small, only 9.75 carat, but the clarity, cut and colour are high, and you can really tell- it sparkles like mad and it is absolutely clear.

GrumpyHoonMain · 29/11/2019 16:35

I got custom made 1 carat, 18c white gold vvs quality diamond solitaire and an eternity style 0.25c 18c white gold wedding ring with tiny but whole diamonds for 3.5k.

Go to Indian jewellers in Leicester / Hatton Garden in London / Jewellry Quarter in Birmingham for the best options. 4k for Vera Wang is a waste.

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 29/11/2019 16:37

Try it on- take a picture. Take it to an independent jewellers.

99% of the time they can get a similar/same setting and the price will be much better or you can get better quality stones.

Piccalino3 · 29/11/2019 16:38

@NorthernGravy is absolutely right and Blue Nile is a good and reputable seller. Might be worth looking through their site and seeing if there are any styles you like.

You'd also get much better value buying second hand or vintage.

How exciting! I really want a new engagement ring but still waiting.

Bluewavescrashing · 29/11/2019 16:39

@NorthernGravy you have great taste, I LOVE your suggestions!

crazyangel1981 · 29/11/2019 17:01

Try Purely Diamonds. Fantastic quality and prices. They have a Black Friday 15% off too. I got my wedding ring from them, but wish I had known about them for my engagement ring!

My wedding ring is 0.53 carat (highest grade diamonds) in platinum and cost £1000. Had it valued at over £1800.

I really recommend them.

ActualHornist · 29/11/2019 18:47

I love the style personally - a solitaire is not my thing no matter how clear the diamonds are.

I wouldn't pay for the Vera Wang namestamp though. Just from that I'd assume it was overpriced as I know nothing about jewellery.

wineandsunshine · 29/11/2019 18:55

I have a VW eternity ring and love it, although it a fraction of this cost!

Lisacaandersson · 30/11/2019 02:28

My fiancé have just bought me an Vera wang engagement ring today! It’s an upgrade from my first one he bought me! I actually choose this ring because I loved it from the moment I tried it on! I don’t really care if it hasn’t got everything that people above states. It’s about what you like and what you want no matter what make or clarity or what ever.. if you’re happy he will be and just enjoy 💗

GlamGiraffe · 30/11/2019 02:42

That is insanely expensive. Generally jewelery in shops like ernest Jones are poor colour and quality diamonds which loose any shine very very quickly you are better going to the back street shops in Hatton garden and haggling them down on price (dont wear your existing rings) or even get one made. There are online jewellers, not sure if ones called blue Nile? But there are loads. You pay s lot for brands, even the famous tiffany rings are outrageously overpriced. Very average diamonds at ultra high prices.(avoid branded jewellery)
Pawn brokers are a really excellent source - dont laugh- some sell top quality jewellery at incredible prices as jewellery loses it's new premium quickly and second hand you purely pay for the metal and stone price. I've bought lovely stuff crazy low prices really good stones (at least vs1) in great settings. Try to find a good one. It's the best bet by far.

MyNameIsMrsGrumpy · 30/11/2019 08:57

Off to try some on today and see how I go, will try a couple of high street and a couple of small independent ones we have in a town nearby.

I’m not near London unfortunately so won’t be able to go to Hatton.

MyNameIsMrsGrumpy · 30/11/2019 08:59

Should add I have a slightly larger budget than 4K i can spend up to 8k but want to get a full set so wedding engagement and eternity ring.

Dh is less than impressed with being dragged around he doesn’t care as long as I’m happy Grin

If you like sparkle, you could go for something like a bridal set with a 1 carat diamond. The one I’ve chosen is triple excellent cut and has the right table/ depth to make it look super sparkly.
