How should I adapt this dress?

I bought this off eBay because I loved the pattern and sleeves but the length just isn't working on me.

Shall I shorten it to just above my knees or as I've seen recently put a split in either side?

How should I adapt this dress?

I'm thinking of splits like this ignore the slightly disturbing porn like posing of the model don't even look up the next picture

I love it shortened!!

BubblesBuddy · 21/11/2019 20:28

Personally I think midi dresses are better than shorter ones right now. Wear with heeled long boots. It doesn’t look better in the shorter length in my view. I think you need to lengthen your look with long boots.

Lessthanzero · 21/11/2019 20:28

Shorten it.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 21/11/2019 20:30

Shortened but with a wider belt.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 21/11/2019 20:31

I was confused as the shortened photo appeared first.. But it is definitely better shorter even though it looks a bit bulky (I assume from the excess fabric folded up inside)
The tulip shape you've created is actually really nice.
The pattern is too busy for a long dress but works on less dress

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 21/11/2019 20:32

No to the splits

Awrite · 21/11/2019 20:33

You have great legs - go with the shorter option.

Ohyesiam · 21/11/2019 20:37

Id say stay longer. It’scs much leaves more flattering look. Go for the splits though definitely ( but not necessarily the poseShock) .

HundredMilesAnHour · 21/11/2019 20:43

Shorten it. You have good legs and it looks great at the shorten length. it looks very dull at the longer length and splits won't fix that.

ProseccoSupernova · 21/11/2019 20:52

It looks a million times better short, really suits you.

Sickoffamilydrama · 21/11/2019 20:53

Thanks everyone for the legs comments ☺️

I can't wear heels anymore which would kind of balance it out.

I have to say I went off patterns for a while but love the kind of folk pattern this has.

I'll go get it shortened or if I'm feeling brave do it myself although it's been years since I did any major sewing.

Oh I love it short with black tights.

inwood · 21/11/2019 21:18

Shorten it!

Pythonesque · 21/11/2019 21:31

I'd shorten it but not quite so far - just below the knee rather than just above.

Elieza · 21/11/2019 21:32

Cut it up the middle, hem, and make it a coatigan. You can wear it lots that way Grin

Mummyshark2018 · 21/11/2019 21:38

I like it long. I think it's more flattering although it could be that the shorter one looks bulky as it's been tucked up.

astralweaks · 21/11/2019 21:51

Shorten it. Above the knee as you are demonstrating.

dontgobaconmyheart · 22/11/2019 02:09

Oh I much prefer it longer! Looks much more on trend than shortened and it suits you OP- you look great.

StarlightLady · 22/11/2019 07:01

I would go for the style in the first pic. Nude tights would work well too, if it is not too cold. Don’t get me wrong, the opaques look good too.

Enjoy the dress.

JessWakefield86 · 22/11/2019 07:13

I much prefer it longer, too. Shorter is ok, but just a bit "meh." Longer is more flattering and more stylish IMO.

Timetobegood · 22/11/2019 07:17

Definitely prefer it longer.

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 · 22/11/2019 07:29

I prefer it longer, it looks dated shortened imo. Not sure about adding the splits though...

BikeRunSki · 22/11/2019 07:36

I like it short!

StarlightLady · 22/11/2019 07:44

I think the mix of responses here show you should do what you want to do. Either way, it’s a lovely dress and you are on a winner.
