In light of the several upcoming engagements for W&K while H&M allegedly take a 6 week break!

I don't think Harry & Meghan can win with the media, no matter what they do, so they may as well suit themselves.

I can see a more international future for them, away from the constant criticism in the UK.

And Christmas at Sandringham sounds awful - no wonder they want to dodge it!

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/11/2019 07:31

That is indeed a gem @Rhubarbisevil. And it comes in purple too. You don't get much more royal than purple velvet!

But isn't the slimmed-down monarchy essentially what the UK public want? I thought that Charles's desire to slim it down was partly in response to popular opinion.”

I think popular opinion only wants to “slim down” particular individuals!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/11/2019 07:41

@Rhubarbisevil @QueenOfTheAndals
I am now browsing the House of Bruar website for a fetching velvet jacket.
William has started a style trend!

BeatriceTheBeast · 14/11/2019 07:47

Holy fuck @Rhubarbisevil! If he had worn that full get up I would have been equally impressed and horrified.

I never said I wanted a slimmed down monarchy...reminding myself of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, "I didn't vote for you" Halloween Grin.

If they go too far and slim down to skinny monarchy aka monarchy lite, they can always pick up new royals by having "watery tarts throw swords at people", hurray Halloween Grin.

Ahem, anywho, still not 100% convinced on the green velvet. Fair play to him for wearing something a bit different though. Isn't velvet horrible synthetic stuff? Maybe that's just what I see in the shops and PW's is amazing natural fibres.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/11/2019 07:48

Thank you @Bellevu.
I’ve been googling Gatcombe Park
I didn’t realise it was so big 700 acres.
Must be lovely for Anne to have all her family so close by.

BeatriceTheBeast · 14/11/2019 07:49

Quite worrying about Camilla. Does she still smoke? I don't follow the monarchy as closely as some on this thread, but from the little I know, I actually really like Camilla.

BeatriceTheBeast · 14/11/2019 07:51

Bruar velvet jacket is actually 100% cotton.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/11/2019 07:52

I don’t see why at some point, Eugenie and Beatrice can’t take on some patronages and shoulder the burden.
Now that we see more of them separate to their parents, public opinion will view them differently.

Horsemad · 14/11/2019 08:17

@MoreProseccoNow What is it about Christmas at Sandringham that sounds awful?

I've always quite fancied staying there! 😆

BertrandRussell · 14/11/2019 08:26

I think Christmas at Sandringham sounds quite fun. But why should anyone stay with one side of their family every year? H&M have done the last two years there- surely it’s time for Harry to do the in-law visiting?

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/11/2019 08:39

It all sounds far too regimented - early mornings, children eating by themselves in the nursery. It isn't 1895!

OP posts:
CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/11/2019 08:47

Do they actually still do that? ( seperate the children)

frugalkitty · 14/11/2019 08:48

Well to be fair, by the sound of it Doria is the only in law that's worth visiting for Harry, I'd say Meghan's got the better deal as far as in laws go.

Wildorchidz · 14/11/2019 08:50

*children eating by themselves in the nursery.i

Especially for Louise. Imagine at 15 having to eat Xmas dinner with your toddler cousins. When will she be deemed to be suitable to join the adults?

BertrandRussell · 14/11/2019 08:59

“ Well to be fair, by the sound of it Doria is the only in law that's worth visiting for Harry, I'd say Meghan's got the better deal as far as in laws go.”
Really? One apparantly reasonably sane mil in California v. huge, bonkers dysfunctional family including a distinctly dodgy uncle....

MoreProseccoNow · 14/11/2019 09:10

@Horsemad - exactly what @QueenOfTheAndals said about Xmas day at Sandringham.

I'd hate the formality of it all. The stupid rules about being separate from DC.

I prefer a frenzied present-opening at 7am, followed by chocolate/fizz for brekkie & playing with my kids all day. Possibly in my jammies Grin

BeatriceTheBeast · 14/11/2019 09:17

I'm with you here. I'd take Christmas with Doria definitely, but I'm allergic to in laws and forced family duty. I'd make a fucking dreadful duchess!

frugalkitty · 14/11/2019 09:21

If it's just Doria being classed as in laws than absolutely but I was thinking about in laws plural. Beatrice I'd be a terrible duchess too, although I have got 20+ years of grinning and bearing it off pat when it comes to spending time in in laws! (DH's lovely sister is the exception to that!)

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/11/2019 09:22

There is talk that Doria may come to the UK for Thanksgiving as well as Xmas, and it’s all done at Frogmore. Also the Queen sees H&M fairly often at Windsor, so not seeing it as a snub.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/11/2019 09:24

Sandringham xmas day

BeatriceTheBeast · 14/11/2019 09:33

frugalkitty, yes, my amazing MIL and nice FIL make up for the rest of the unpleasantness with dh's family. I've known them since we were all very young, (for about 15 years now), and a couple of years ago I reached my limit. I can obviously do all the civilities, see them, say hello, nod, smile, write thank yous for DC presents etc, go to each others important family events, but I stopped making a serious effort to have a friendship with them years ago.

It definitely helps if you have one or two nice ones and I definitely do, which I'm grateful for. But I think it's a matter of finding your place and I found out long ago that when it comes to DH's family in general, I'm always likely to be on the periphery. This used to upset me, but now I realise I've dodged a bullet as they're bitchy about everyone else, including each other.

Anyway, I wonder if Doria will come here. I used to work in fancy pants restaurants and a colleague had met her at another place she worked in. Said she was really down to earth.

Disfordarkchocolate · 14/11/2019 09:44

If that's still the case CurlyWurly it sounds far too formal for me apart from Christmas Eve tea. Some of the food just sounds hideous too.

FiveTwoFaster · 14/11/2019 09:49

If H&M see the HMQ at Windsor a lot which I don’t see why they wouldn’t, they are mostly just missing out on The Duke of Edinburgh- but perhaps they’ll go and see him separately. He’s always at Sandringham (or house on estate) now isn’t he?

Horsemad · 14/11/2019 09:58

Well apart from the over indulgent food and being separated from my DC, I could cope with that I think. 🙂

I'd love to live at Sandringham, it's a very nice estate.
