Judge my jumper dress!

I'm looking for a jumper dress, I'm not sure exactly how to describe the style I'm looking for, I guess sort of celtic style. I would prefer wool, wool/cashmere. I like a flared style, these seem difficult to find. I have attached a pic of one I found online, it's probably aimed at the tourist market! What do you think? It's about €100 and 100% merino wool. Awful? Grin Thanks!

I like it!

I wish the made them a bit longer though. I work in a school and would love to wear something like that to work

amiapropermum · 11/11/2019 13:03

I don't like it but I'm Irish with red hair so I think I'd look ridiculous Grin

I'd try some of the woolen mills online sites. Maybe Blarney Woolen Mills or similar

bigeegit · 11/11/2019 13:15

Might have a look. I'm irish too and my sister just sent me a gif from Darby o gill after I sent her the pic. Grin

I should have guessed by your username Grin

I'd look like an Aer Lingus ad but if you don't have red hair you'd get away with it!

BusterGonad · 11/11/2019 14:35

I love a jumper dress and that one looks really nice, I've tried to enlarge the picture but I can't. 😞

bigeegit · 11/11/2019 14:48

I have dark brown hair but am super pale, so may still look like I should be doing a jig on the cliffs of moher. Hmmm. Here is the link if anyone wants to see the pic better, there is a charcoal version too www.theirishstore.com/the-skellig-aran-dress

I've recently been to Ireland and did actually have a real hankering for a nice thick touristy Irish Aran-esque jumper. In the end I couldn't commit though but I'm still looking. Was considering ordering this online www.aransweatermarket.com/rope-cable-crew-aran-sweater actually.

So I'd say fecking go for it. You will look a bit diddleieydi but arra it'll keep you warm. It's a good price!

Timetobegood · 11/11/2019 16:06

I think it’s lovely. I ordered a jumper dress from monsoon but sent it back as it was too jumperish to wear on its own and looked like I’d forgotten my trousers whereas your one is more dress shape.

bigeegit · 11/11/2019 16:11

I know exactly what you mean Timetobegood! Shock Smile
I'm really surprised that some of the comments are positive, I was expecting you all to tell me I'd lost the plot and to get in my time machine and run back to my stone cottage in 1819.

I think it's quite nice in th darker colour. The lighter one not at all

BillywigSting · 11/11/2019 16:16

I think it's lovely op.

Am also Irish and have reddish hair and would happily wear that and look like an aer Lingus ad. It looks lovely and cosy and not just like a jumper your great aunt forgot to stop knitting.

In fact I'm tempted to buy it now

goose1964 · 11/11/2019 17:16

It's pretty but just seeing it's wool has made me itchy

Redshoeblueshoe · 11/11/2019 17:21

I think it's lovely, especially the charcoal one

daisypond · 11/11/2019 17:22

I like it, especially the charcoal version.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 11/11/2019 17:24

I actually love it, but then I'm Scottish so equally partial to a cable knit. That said - merino wool is hand wash only so it's a no from me, the last hand-wash only garment I bought has been at the bottom of the laundry pile since 1986.

banivani · 11/11/2019 20:07

I have to disagree there, my experience with merino is that it takes a wash very well! But I’ve never had a chunky knit, only thinner varieties that may be treated? Anyway I always hand wash all wool. Hand wash = machine wash on hand wash setting.

Ohyesiam · 11/11/2019 20:30

I really love it in the charcoal. If I had a waist I’d buy it.

sonjadog · 11/11/2019 21:16

I like the charcoal one. The white one is a bit too much Santa´s helper for me.

sonjadog · 11/11/2019 21:21

Looking at that website, I now want this: www.theirishstore.com/women-s-streedagh-aran-gilet

(I´m Irish. I think I can get away with it).

bigeegit · 11/11/2019 21:50

Thanks for all the feedback, I'll sit on it for a few days and see if I still want it. One annoying thing about the website is that vat isn't included until the shipping stage, so the dress is €20 more than the initial advertised price. This is due to the website being for an American audience I think. Just something to bear in mind if you're planning on buying anything!

TartanMarbled · 11/11/2019 21:54

It's Godawful.

Neilsfavouritechilli · 11/11/2019 21:56

Its gorgeous, especially in the grey. Shame its out of my budget but I'll be scouting out cheaper alternatives.

ClinkyMonkey · 11/11/2019 22:24

I used to wear something similar to work many years ago and had to put up with 'hilarious' quips about the Clancy Brothers. Sure they were just jealous!

BusterGonad · 11/11/2019 22:43

The charcoal is really nice, I'm not so keen on the bottom bit/hem bit over all I like it. Very £££ though!

StarlightLady · 12/11/2019 04:09

I am a great fan of the warm dress. But it will need washing a lot, l would be concerned about whether it would keep it’s shape. I once had a jumper dress that ended up with a very wonky hem.
