What does everyone think of the 90s trend of brown/nude lips with darker lip liner that's made a come back?

It’s wrong. It was wrong then and it’s wrong now. Don’t do it.

marriageisafullonmerger · 09/11/2019 15:43

Awww man. I saw a girl doing her make up on the train the other day and she did it. She looked brilliant. She was very pretty though so maybe she'd have looked good either way.
Maybe I'll try it in the privacy of my own home?

It looked cheap in the 90s and looks cheap now.

marriageisafullonmerger · 09/11/2019 15:46

Oh no another vote for no. The girl kind of smudged the liner into the lipstick so it wasn't a harsh line.
I'm 32 so I missed it the first time round really Grin

It looked shit then we just didn’t know any better.

I never did it but other girls did.

Honeybee85 · 09/11/2019 16:59

It reminds me of some women who have permanent make up: black lipliner, so whatever colour they are wearing as a lipstick, the lipliner is always darker. I think it looks horrible. Esspecially when it’s combined with a very light pink pearly/frosty lipstick as seems to be preferred as a combination with the black lipliner by said ladies.

Honeybee85 · 09/11/2019 17:01

Though this look from MAC is beautiful for a night out!

I think some people do a lip contour where they smudge a lighter shade at the very centre of the bottom lip to look more voluminous.

Exp1etiveDeLighted · 09/11/2019 17:10

I think lipliner should be completely undetectable, going over the edges of the lips looks terrible.

Shitonthebloodything · 09/11/2019 19:11

I love 90s makeup!

Cmagic7 · 09/11/2019 19:33

What ever you think of Kim Kardashian - I think she is rocking this look.

@Exp1etiveDeLighted I agree that over lining is a horrible trend.

@Cmagic7 she looks fab!

If I give it a go, I shall post results!

Those 2 pics make me think the look is updated in line with the popular trend to contour. It's more faded in a shadowed than it was in the 90s.

MoltonSilver · 09/11/2019 22:23

I liked it at the time but there's no going back.

And as they say, if you're old enough to remember it first time around then you're too old for it now, lol

Mother87 · 10/11/2019 08:39

I'm definititely 'stuck in the 90's'Blush I do (i think) a subtle version of this - with a browny/pinkish lip colour & slightly darker brown lip-liner. Gives definition/stops it looking smudgy possibly looks naff but i like it

Bluntness100 · 10/11/2019 08:43

I also do a subtle version of this, but not in brown, I use Charlotte tilbury pillow talk lipstick which is a nude pink colour and mac plum lip liner but I never go outside my lips and also shade it, so there is never harsh line, more my lips are slightly lighter in thr middle.

The harsh line outside your lips, or even a harsh line is a bad look.
