For me it's perspex shoes. No.

The really, really, REALLY tight jeans and leggings. They look painful.

Also workout gear in everyday life makes people look sweaty even if they’re not.

False nails.

Leopard print.

RiftGibbon · 14/11/2019 12:10

Another one has just occurred to me and that is the fact that it is seemingly impossible to buy a top that is not either
Plunge neckline
Cold shoulder
Covered in frilly/ruffled bits
Tied up at the waist/side
Polo neck

or that has a pocket on the chest

All I want is a round necked or even v-necked top that I don't have to faff about with. I'm not good with blouses as most of those now are either cut very low, smothered in pockets, gape when you button them or have pussy bows.

What happened to basic shaped clothing in plain colours?

NotAClue101 · 14/11/2019 12:42

Definitely the Perspex shoe - toes all squished up look yuk!

Mahoosive lips from over filling

Love a good eyebrow me, but when they are an inch wide and all feathery looking I think they are hideous

False lashes that look like slugs in eyelids

Over knee boots - just scream hooker to me....look even worse on over 50's women (someone I work with)

Blue tone shampoo to get white blonde hair, that actually has a blue undertone and looks awful

Crop anything on top half (if I was 18 and size 6 I may like a bit more 😝)

Highlighter on face...looks like a tin man or Robert off of justin's house 🤣

Lingerie for tops

PVC anything

Wearing a coat that hands off your elbows and exposed shoulders....what's the point in wearing a coat to expose all your top half and walk around holding it awkward??

SpiderCharlotte · 14/11/2019 13:11

I also hate pockets on the chest though that's not a new trend I don't think, this has been a bug bear of mine for years.

And although I don't like over the knee boots either Notaclue, I don't like them on someone of any age. Being over 50 doesn't make them any worse IMO, but I accept that may be because I am over 50. 😂

Short flared trousers, they look so stupid on everyone.

sableandI · 14/11/2019 13:51

Hideous chunky bricks for feet

Current trends you REALLY don't like?
ppeatfruit · 14/11/2019 13:55

I get UPSET at those effing enormous dresses. in synthetics or cottons ;I thought that with more thinking about the environment the overusing of all those polluting dyes and water in countries which employ very young people and have no, or very little, water.

We should all start boycotting the fast fashion thing. it's pernicious.

Womenwotlunch · 14/11/2019 14:32

@NotAClue101- agree about over the knee ‘fuck me’ boots. Awful
Chelsea boots-why?
Thick black eyebrows- why?
Cropped Jumpers- Why?

ppeatfruit · 14/11/2019 16:27

Why not ? Womenwot I LIKE my old Chelsea boots very useful with my old fashioned (i like to call them classic ) jeans in the muddy rainy weather.

ppeatfruit · 14/11/2019 16:29

I agree about those eyebrows though Grin daft.

NotAClue101 · 14/11/2019 19:35

@SpiderCharlotte no offense to over 50's but think the over knee boots scream mutton! I agree hideous on anyone, but just really bad on older women nearing 60...

bringincrazyback · 14/11/2019 19:38

All these prissy high necks you see on so many tops and blouses these days.
Frills and ruffles.
Blocky, obviously 'done' eyebrows.
Matte lipstick.
Cut crease eyeshadow looks.

bobstersmum · 14/11/2019 19:54

I hate lip fillers I just remember back in the day when Leslie Ash had hers done and everyone was horrified, now everyone has them done like that?
And I don't like the crop tops, especially on all the young teens, I just think it's too much, especially if worn with low rise trousers.

Loveislandaddict · 14/11/2019 20:03

I love the high necks - suits my pear shaped figure!

Dowser · 14/11/2019 23:38

I go along with everyone
Those frumpy midi dresses..just awful
Overblown faces
Brick like trainers
Wide legged cropped culottes
Frilly, ruffled tops and dresses
It’s probably not on trend ..but I just don’t get toast, poetry, cos and hush..most of the time.

Dowser · 14/11/2019 23:39

Oh and I hate wrap dresses.

medb22 · 15/11/2019 10:42

A lot of hate for the shapeless sack dresses here, I see. I can appreciate that they are not very flattering, but god help me, I love them. They are so comfortable. It's such a joy to just go about my day without constantly feeling the need to tug at waistbands or worry about what my stomach looks like when I sit down. I really love the expensive, tailored look, but my post-c-sections body doesn't.

But I am totally on-board with the hate for polyester, and its sneaky cousin, viscose. I've been trying hard lately to buy less, and only invest in a few good quality, well made things. I've been pretty shocked by how many expensive brands are charging so much money for 100% polyester dresses and tops.

ppeatfruit · 15/11/2019 12:01

I'm just buying vintage now (well chassers actually, it's what dd2 calls charity shops) Grin i'm getting some of my clothes altered too to stop the buying compulsion.

Ticklemeelmo · 15/11/2019 12:26

Hush. White Stuff. Fat Face. Whistles.
Frumpy black round-toed flat shoes.
Small/medium size hoops.
Bretons.
Anything Joules.
'Pops of colour' to 'jazz up an outfit'.
French pedicure - reminds me of toenails that desperately need trimming.

I don't mind some of these things- none of them are fashionable though, only among slightly older women.

I'd say the big early 90s style jeans and chunky trainers, definitely not something I could get away with these days

SpiderCharlotte · 15/11/2019 12:46

Absolutely this X 100. I was given a Mint Velvet voucher and looked for a new smartish top. Their knitwear is notoriously shit quality but I couldn't believe they were looking for £70/£80 for a 100% polyester top that looked like something my nan would have refused to wear.

NightsOfCabiria · 16/11/2019 18:23

@SpiderCharlotte Yes to the outrageously expensive polyester tops, e.g. this from Hobbs which is A HUNDRED POUNDS!

www.hobbs.com/product/dionne-top/0120-6422-9045L00-DARK-GREEN.html#navAjax=true&cgid=new&sz=60&start=0&prefn1=refinementColor&prefv1=Blue|Green|Red&pid=0120-6422-9045L00-DARK-GREEN&pos=18

I’d love to see the justification for that.
