For me it's perspex shoes. No.

Huge dark eyebrows. Inflated lips and skinny jeans on men.

I'm pretty tolerant of anything but they all make me shake my head and put my judgey pants on.

AnnaNimmity · 04/11/2019 19:52

I don't really like all the zara (typically) printed maxi/tiered shapeless dresses that are around.

Although I did buy one. I feel the need to wear it belted to give myself some shape. I'm not actually sure they're very flattering on anyone.

I have got some hiking boots and appreciate they're a bit marmite. But I love them. Even though they take me back to my student days when I wore doc martens.

historysock · 04/11/2019 19:57

Insane puff sleeves on EVERYTHING! Why?? I have quite wide shoulders and all tips and dresses currently available make me look like a bloody line backer!!

ZootSuit · 04/11/2019 20:01

@EugenesAxe ooh I love that make up look! And her hair colour! Also shade of lipstick is one I’m always trying to find but never get quite right Confused

gingersausage · 04/11/2019 20:23

Apart from the Zara-esque dresses, perspex shoes and maybe cord pinafores, I’m failing to see how most of the stuff mentioned in this thread is a “current trend”.

It makes me laugh when people bring up the same stuff on these threads year after year; the same things can’t be current now as were five years ago. Just because people keep wearing things doesn’t make them “on trend”. A classic example is cold shoulder tops - totally had their day. Same with slug brows, visible from space highlighter and dresses over jeans (about 10 years ago!).

goose1964 · 04/11/2019 22:30

Orange foundation, but that may be a US thing. Beeflips, fillers, slug brows, botox all give a slightly odd face. I'm OK with most fashions though.

Style0 · 04/11/2019 23:10

Longggg Hoodies

SpiderCharlotte · 04/11/2019 23:36

I went looking for a dress for a christening today. As I have no intention of going dressed as my 1970s obsession Holly Hobbie, I didn't find a thing. Infuriating.

Swimsuits that go RIGHT up their bum.

Kiwiinkits · 04/11/2019 23:41

YY cold shoulder tops definitely are not en trend atm

Kiwiinkits · 04/11/2019 23:44

Pointy talon fingernails.
Totally grim.

CountFosco · 05/11/2019 06:01

Natural needs to come back. It looks so good.

CountFosco · 05/11/2019 06:09

Ahem. I think natural is coming back, slowly. Just think of the increase in women going grey. I also think the young aren't really leading fashion anymore in the way they did in the late 20th century when street fashion was so important. Or maybe I'm just getting old and am not influenced by the identikit young girls who all look the same and have done for several years. Can only think of one woman at work under 20 who dresses well, otherwise the most interesting dressers are in their 40s.

As for what I don't like? Well there's thinks I wouldn't wear (e.g. brown, skinny rib, polo necks) but that doesn't mean I can't see it looks good on other people. So tben itcomes down to class markers which a lot of these are (e.g. slug brows, fake everything).

emilybrontescorsett · 05/11/2019 07:36

The trend for slug eyebrows is no longer on trend. It's individual hairs now, especially towards the nose. Looks a bit odd to me after years of seeing one t thick line up of eyebrow as it were.this
The thick lips look dreadful, I don't think thick lips were ever desirable, only in porn.

CravingCheese · 05/11/2019 10:34

Thanks. Hmm

MilliiMoo · 05/11/2019 11:07

Most fashionable items I dislike.
Polyester clothes. Why are people paying for this unsustainable rubbish. It's not cheap either. High end shops use it.
Instagram fashions (sheep)
Tattooed eyebrows
Heavily pencilled eyebrows-I can see your real brows through the pencil
Slug brows
Face contouring
Heavy makeup
Fake eyelashes-just look so silly
Surgically enhanced lips and fillers elsewhere too
Leopard print (no it's still Bet Lynch )
Cropped flares with frayed hems
I'm looking forward to the return of the natural look with real brows and normal glowing skin and clothing that is stylish not high fast and fashionable

MilliiMoo · 05/11/2019 11:11

CountFosco what are class markers?

SapphireSeptember · 05/11/2019 12:17

I've said it before and I'll say it again, you'll have to prise my matte lipstick from my cold dead hands. Grin Matte metallic lipsticks had a moment and I love them still. Glossy is coming back though! Whatever happens I hope we still have lots of choice (and funky colours, I dread going back to the days of purple lipstick not existing.)

MorrisZapp · 05/11/2019 12:26

Words written on jumpers.

CountFosco · 05/11/2019 12:36

what are class markers?

Well pretty much everything you've listed as things you don't like are things I'd not consider in fashion (can you imagine any of them in Vogue) but are associated with lower income and education levels. Since fashion is used primarily as a way of signalling your tribe and where you belong in society that's not surprising. Nor is it surprising that the predominantly middle aged, middle class MNers of S&B dislike slug brows. I'm sure the slug brow owners dislike Hush just as much.

WhineUp · 05/11/2019 14:25

Hush. White Stuff. Fat Face. Whistles.
Frumpy black round-toed flat shoes.
Small/medium size hoops.
Bretons.
Anything Joules.
'Pops of colour' to 'jazz up an outfit'.
French pedicure - reminds me of toenails that desperately need trimming.

WhineUp · 05/11/2019 14:31

Also the whole alternative 1950s/rockabilly trend.

friendlyflicka · 05/11/2019 14:49

I have 2 teenage girls and spend a lot of time outside changing rooms with them. They both look stunning in any cut of jeans, any kind of crop top, and so do most of the teenage and young student girls I see.

When you get to a certain age, you just have to stop following fashion and use a bit of discrimination.

I personally much prefer a lot of the high fashion novelty stuff rather than the leggings under pinafore dresses and tunics and North Face anoraks.

I don't think calling things 'mum' style is about age-ism. When my kids were very dependant on me and I had to have speed and convenience as my main criteria, I went down that route. Now my girls are older, I have dumped that kind of stuff and found a new interest in clothes again. Just don't follow trends relentlessly.

Basilicaofthemind · 05/11/2019 15:07

Midi dresses look frumpy on so many people I know who are usually pretty stylish. I think they look better in instagram photos than real life.

RockinHippy · 05/11/2019 15:16

80s eyebrows on steroids & heavy fake orange freckles 🤢

DD of course loves both & it's so hard not to tell her to stop hiding her beautiful face under so much fake crap. 🤐
