For me it's perspex shoes. No.

OP posts:

On me, I would thoroughly dislike crop tops! And the general public would thank me wholeheartedly from abstaining from that particular trend. Yikes.

I saw a woman with very, very low cut trousers and a cropped top and cropped fur jacket. She must have been 45+, easily, with the most amazing figure. God knows what sorcery she used to keep that tummy! But she was swearing loudly down the phone and threatening whoever was on the other end. This leads me to believe that even if you look amazing in a cropped top over the age of 45, you must be some sort of vile creature, with cruel tendencies to actually do it. You can't argue with that. It's science Halloween Grin.

LightDrizzle · 02/11/2019 22:18

I think it’s all hideous at the moment, particularly for a short, 49 year old with an imposing bosom.
I wandered round Zara thinking that if someone had thrust 1000€ into my hand and told me to go mad, I’d have struggled to buy anything more than some nightwear.
I look dreadful in the muesli colours around this season and clumpy, dumpy stuff leaves me looking like Jeanette Krankie.

BeatriceTheBeast · 02/11/2019 22:19

*thank me wholeheartedly FOR abstaining from...

lazylinguist · 02/11/2019 22:19

Yy to ridiculous eyebrows, lips etc. Also acrylic nails, especially long talon-like ones. Ugh.

BeatriceTheBeast · 02/11/2019 22:21

Oh I'm not keen on acrylic nails, but are they a current trend? The only person I know who has them is a receptionist from my old office. She must be approaching 70, so probably not the most fashion forward...

I'm not keen on hair extensions or even gel nails either, but tbh, I don't care if someone other than me has them. I just don't want them thank you.

NightsOfCabiria · 02/11/2019 22:22

Matt make-up - corpse like
‘Brows’ - you know, the ones you can see from half a mile away
Leopard print anything - cheap looking
Black floral - always look cheap & dirty
Rust/brown/khaki coloured clothes - dont suit 90% of people
crop tops - unless youre a catwalk model
Massive trainers - just ridiculous

NightsOfCabiria · 02/11/2019 22:24

Ah yes and the Amish nighties. Theyre hideous. Yes, even the Zara one.

ConFusion360 · 02/11/2019 22:25

I do like the 90s fashion coming back.

I thought 1990's fashion was crop tops.

I'm going to go against the grain here because I like them. They suit me.

Saying that someone has "passed". No, they died.

fyi - my mom didn't like us talking about what we would need to do when she . So I started to refer to is as "when she drops off her perch". My family thinks I'm insensitive for some daft reason.

Anywaythewindisblowing · 02/11/2019 22:31

Hair dyed grey or pale pink or other "pastel" colour. It just looks awful.
Massive trainers
Trousers that are baggy round the arse but then too short?! Makes everyone look like a fucking clanger.
Erm
So many things when I go shopping I just don't get at all. I'm reminded of Homer's Dad on the Simpsons 'I used to be with it, then they changed what" it" is, now "it" scares me' whenever I go out of my house.
Slipper shoes. Aren't you cold?!
Also everything is made out of crepe paper now so will be destroyed instantly if washed.

Wrong thread?

Fruityb · 02/11/2019 22:37

Uber heavy make up
Too much highlighter - it’s like they’ve been dipped in gold paint
The long sleeved to the floor dresses - I’d look like I was in a nightie

myidentitymycrisis · 02/11/2019 22:54

Those skinny tracksuit bottoms. Especially on men

SwampOfDeath · 02/11/2019 23:02

I went into some actual clothes shop at the end of the summer as DP had bust the crotch of his shorts at Airhop at an out of town mall Blush. Quick replacement needed. We literally buy all our family's clothing second hand from charity shops or eBay, so it was totally depressing to see just how many of the women's items of clothing in the 4 or 5 popular shops I whizzed through on my search were made of synthetic fibres. Like blatantly, unabashedly shiny, scratchy polyester in tops, trousers, jumpsuits and skirts. Nothing screams poor quality, sweaty and nasty like synthetic fibres. The shop floor was like a shrine to unsustainable, gratuitous consumption, synthetic garment upon synthetic garment on the rails (I know this is what a shop is Grin ), but no sign of any aspiration for lasting quality or durability. Weird. The menswear sections had a much higher 'cotton count' and that really doesn't surprise me. I just can't see DP or his friends getting into wearing polyester chinos or acrylic tees. I had no idea, as I just filter for my preferred materials whenever I shop for used items on eBay.

cheesewitheverything · 02/11/2019 23:29

Huge eyebrows.

SapphireSeptember · 03/11/2019 02:16

I'm an outlier, I LOVE flared sleeves, but then I like looking like an extra from Harry Potter anyway. Grin

Oh yes, trousers/jeans that show off your ankles. They were frightfully unfashionable when I was a teen in the early 00s and I just wonder if people have chilly ankles when I see them wearing them in winter.

StarlightLady · 03/11/2019 05:50

Leggings or even trousers worn with dresses.

Dramaofallama · 03/11/2019 07:32

I actually saw nude lips the other day with heavy lipliner. Reminded me of the late 90's early 00's! If it is back in fashion that means the skinny brow will probably be making a comeback.

Socks tucked over jogging bottoms, main culprits are men.

Crop tops, I don't mind them but does every top now have to be a crop top! Even jumpers and shirts are cropped.

shearwater · 03/11/2019 07:35

I looked in Mint Velvet window yesterday and everything appeared to be khaki and black. Nothing wrong with a bit of that, but it seemed a bit dull when bold florals are also a trend. And I'm getting a bit fed up with animal print on everything.

Skinnychip · 03/11/2019 07:44

Slug eyebrows
And not new, but still people wear them, sliders. The fluffy ones look like chunky and not very attractive slippers, the plain ones would look just about forgivable ok if you were in a gym changing room or by a pool, but not for everyday wear. And with socks is even worse.

MoltoAgitato · 03/11/2019 07:51

Cord pinafores, unless you are under 7.

EugenesAxe · 03/11/2019 07:58

Makes everyone look like a fucking clanger.
😂😂

It’s well on its way out, but all the Peaky Blinders related fashion - lice limiting hair and mud dodging ankle flapper trousers on men. Like imitating gangsters is going to evoke some halcyon idea of masculinity.

Saying that, I’m a complete hypocrite as I discovered the horse trainer’s makeup actually works quite well as a more dramatic look for a middle-aged lady, and is helping me use up the brown-verging-on-black compartment of my eye-palette, that I’ve barely touched before and ideally want to use up before I chuck it.

ritzbiscuits · 03/11/2019 08:22

@Dramaofallama I've never embraced the slug eyebrow trend, clinging on to my 90s brows. I could be ahead if the curve! Grin

BeatriceTheBeast · 03/11/2019 08:31

@SwampOfDeath

YES!!! This is my pet peeve, but a lot stronger than that. It gives me mild rage!

Why do women get shit polyester, to be worn omfe and then binned, while men get decent quality, natural fibres in practical clothes. So, so annoying.

I sometimes buy mens knitwear. Pure wool or sustainable cotton for a fraction of the price you would pay for pure wool womens knitwear.
