Are ballet pumps a no no?

A silky sophisticated colleague at work was chatting to one of the younger girls (funkily dressed in a tiara and boots) and she said K* tell me you’ll never wear ballet pumps ... made me think I have a wardrobe full of the shoes are they really such a no no these days? What else looks good with a dress or skirt - hell am I really so out of touch?!

I think she probably meant it specifically for the person wearing the boots/funky clothing, as in they should retain their individuality and not wear 'mainstream' choices.

ZaraW · 02/11/2019 07:05

sorry misread. Anyway, ballet pumps are back in.

mistermagpie · 02/11/2019 07:06

Ballet pumps are a staple in my life, but then Im nearly 40 and live in converse and Breton tops with jeans so am hardly fashionable!

They still sell loads of them so they must be alright for a lot of people! Perhaps not the 'tiara to the office' types I'll grant you...

Juancornetto · 02/11/2019 07:12

I think they look lovely in summer but when I see people wearing them in autumn and winter it just makes me think their feet most be getting cold and wet

morningdread · 02/11/2019 07:13

Kate Moss was wearing them all Summer so I think they will be back.

Tiara & boots sounds very Avril Lavigne circa the early noughties

LonginesPrime · 02/11/2019 07:43

Yeah, it sounds like she meant 'don't ever change and start wearing sensible shoes' to the funtime quirky girl...

I've seen a few grownups wearing tiaras recently - it all seems a bit try-hard if you ask me.

bleughhh · 02/11/2019 07:46

Ballet pumps are definitely back in!

dontgobaconmyheart · 02/11/2019 08:00

An actual tiara OP? Surely not Confused for normal officewear?

EffYouSeeKaye · 02/11/2019 08:04

Ballet pumps are back? When were they away? Confused I am hopeless Grin

elQuintoConyo · 02/11/2019 08:08

Do you work with Amy Farrah Fowler? Just don't ditch your ballets for orthotics Grin

I can't walk in ballet flats, so they're a no-no for me. Aesthetically they're lovely, lots worn around here.

woodhill · 02/11/2019 08:13

They do not support my feet so not for me

thedevilinablackdress · 02/11/2019 08:22

Maybe they were discussing sore feet issues 😁
So many podiatrists have told me how bad they are for your feet. Too flat, no support.

Runningonempty84 · 02/11/2019 08:24

The more expensive ones (that are closer to proper shoes) can look ok, but unfortunately most cheap ballet pumps look awful - mainly because they provide no support, so the feet overpronate and squish outwards.
My physio also said they're an absolute no-no for runners, as they encourage terrible posture and, if you wear them a lot, can make you more prone to picking up an injury.

Yes they are a case of form over function for me. Very few people can walk gracefully in them I think. They make me waddle like a duck!

morningdread · 02/11/2019 08:29

I have Lanvin ones that have a hidden lift so more support.

MrsGrindah · 02/11/2019 08:41

Actually re my previous comment about very few people can walk gracefully in them....ballerinas can I suppose!

ExpletiveDEVILighted · 02/11/2019 08:58

You see them far less than you did a few years ago. I can't wear them, wide feet and need more support.

Pinkarsedfly · 02/11/2019 09:15

I need to know more about the tiara.

Aderyn19 · 02/11/2019 09:22

I clicked that link and apart from the studs on the heel, I think my Clarks ballet flats look like the Louboutin ones for $485!
I say wear what you think looks nice and is comfortable (life is too short for painful shoes) and sod what anyone else thinks.
Contentment with one's own choices is stylish imo.

trader21c · 02/11/2019 09:25

Yes an actual tiara have to say she rocks the look but then she is under 30 x

Uponreflection · 02/11/2019 09:31

I haven’t worn mine for a couple of years even in the summer. Everybody seems to be in trainers or ankle boots.

Uponreflection · 02/11/2019 09:32

Tiaras were on a fashion feature on This Morning with Lisa Snowden last week.

morningdread · 02/11/2019 09:34

tbf I like the decorative headbands so maybe it's the next thing

trader21c · 02/11/2019 09:58

Looking round at work that’s right uponreflect
