Does this look stupid?!

I’m trying to find ankle boots to wear with slim fitting jeans. (Pretty much all my jeans and trousers fit like this.) In summer I wear moccasins, but in winter I’d like to wear ankle boots as they’re warmer and much better for rain. The problem is that the top of the ankle boots gets in the way of the bottom of my jeans, making the jeans look odd (crinkled up on the leg). I’ve tried a few pairs of boots and they all have the same problem. I’ve tried turning up the jeans inwards (not keen on the turned up outwards look), and I think that looks even worse, because my jeans are not skinny enough to look good short. The ideal thing would be to wear jeans that are a really skinny fit, finishing above the ankle, but my calves are just not toned enough for that - really skinny jeans look awful on me. Do you think my jeans look rubbish with the ankle boots?! (One photo is with the jeans turned up.)

They're fine. I wouldn't see you and think it's odd at all.

Can I ask why you're stood on paper towel? Smile

Tuck your jeans into your boots!

Abigail098 · 01/11/2019 14:07

This is with the jeans crumpled above the boots, which maybe looks slightly better than either of the above options, though I’m still not sure about it!

:) I’m standing on this so as not to scuff the boots on the wooden floor, as I’ve not decided whether to keep them!

Tuck them into the boot or fold them over to look like boyfriend jeans

Abigail098 · 01/11/2019 14:11

@Whyisitsodifficult Thanks for the suggestion! I’ve just tried tucking them in, and unfortunately what with the boots bring close-fitting, the jeans are too bulky to tuck into them.

I'd turn them up.

I would also turn up on the outside rather than folding inside.

Abigail098 · 01/11/2019 14:16

This is how they look turned up. Any thoughts?!

I would turn them up, looks much neater.

Abigail098 · 01/11/2019 14:18

Are turn-ups in these days?! (Forgive my ignorance!)

Return the boots. Nothing wrong with them but you aren't sure about them.

Abigail098 · 01/11/2019 14:21

I might do that, but the problem is that all the ankle boots I can find have the same issue!

Buy ones that you can tuck your jeans in.

MsChatterbox · 01/11/2019 14:30

You need to roll them up until they are showing a bit of skin on the leg. That's the rule I've always followed 😊

BubblesBuddy · 01/11/2019 14:35

Yes. Just roll them up. Lots of jeans are 3/4 length these days. Look on websites like Zara to see how to wear jeans with boots.

I like them a lot better turned up. I also agree with MsChatterbox; maybe try turning up so you can see a bit of ankle?

This photo is a bit bossy and I don't really like definitive style rules, but it shows what people mean by turning them up!

Abigail098 · 01/11/2019 14:42

Thank you very much for the replies! Do you think they look ok turned up without showing skin? I have very fair skin that goes purple when cold, which is not a look I really want to flaunt!

OP posts:
MsChatterbox · 01/11/2019 14:46

They definitely still look good turned up without skin! I do that too because half the time my legs aren't shaved 💁🏼‍♀️. Skin is more flattering but whatever you're comfortable with of course!

Ellapaella · 01/11/2019 14:48

Roll them up a bit as suggested. If your legs are too cold with a bit of leg on show then some coloured tights underneath can look ok. Would need to contrast with the jeans though.
I think maybe the jeans are a bit too long in the leg for you, might look a bit better if you try a shorter length?

Nancydrawn · 01/11/2019 14:54

Turned up is very in right now. I've found my normal jeans are now being sold with an extra inch or so of material to make them turn up-able. It's very annoying, but it's a common problem.
