Leather jacket - which do you prefer?

I'm treating myself to a proper leather jacket for my birthday this year and have bought this from Reiss: here

But I'm not sure I love it and am wondering if this one from Joe Brown's would be better: here

Any view?

Part of my problem is that I'm 4 months pregnant so the Reiss one doesn't fit brilliantly at the moment, although I think it will be fine when I'm not. I want to choose it now because it is will be a present for my 40th birthday, otherwise I would wait until I've had the baby.

The Reiss one, much classier in cut and colour, the Joe Brown one is awful (sorry) that wrinkle effect looks like its been chewed.

But then Im not a fan of Joe Brown generally

Thistledew · 30/10/2019 09:45

I do like the slightly more beaten up look - I'm not keen on leather that looks too neat, but I wonder if I just have to wear in the Reiss one until it softens and folds and put up with it looking too pristine until it does.

I'm not so keen on the gold zips as well.

I would keep looking elsewhere. For that amount of money you need to love every part of the jacket....zips included! If they're not quite right then don't part with your money yet.

TheFaerieQueene · 30/10/2019 10:13

I have a Reiss leather jacket very like the one you like. I’ve had it for years and it still looks like new and the leather is as soft as butter. I have other leather jackets, but the Reiss one is my favourite.

Spied · 30/10/2019 10:17

Reiss- don't like zips either and it needs a good wearing in.
Joe - looks like it's a bit too distressed.

Baxdream · 30/10/2019 10:17

I got an Allsaints one in the next sale (£140! Bargain)
The Reiss one is beautiful! I'd be tempted to wait for a sale though

Letseatgrandma · 30/10/2019 10:18

I prefer the colour of the Joe Browns one-the Reiss one is a bit office wear for me. I like to think I’m a bit kooky, but scruffy is probably a more accurate description Grin.

At 4m pregnant-things prob should still fit though, or have you got quite a big bump already?

Dominoz · 30/10/2019 10:20

Have a Reiss leather jacket too. It's amazing. Leather is gorgeous. I bought it on the isle a couple of years ago and is still perfect. Really timeless.

I'd say if you're not sure to take it back though and wait for one you love. Especially for a big birthday pressie

Thistledew · 30/10/2019 10:22

It zips up fine even with my smallish bump but it sticks out a bit at the bottom of the zip and feels perhaps an inch short, but I think that won't be a problem once it is broken in and I don't have a bump.

PegasusReturns · 30/10/2019 10:23

I wouldn't get either - as a pp says for that amount of money you want to really love it.

I just bought a lovely leather jacket in mint velvet after a year of looking and everything being not quite right. here

MondeoFan · 30/10/2019 10:24

I like the Reiss one but don't love it!
I normally like All Saints

Ravenrob · 30/10/2019 10:32

I really like the one @PegasusReturns linked.

Aderyn19 · 30/10/2019 10:33

The reiss one is definitely the nicest. But it's too much money to spend on something which isn't perfect for you. I'd keep looking.

wetwiped · 30/10/2019 10:37

Definitely check out All Saints, beautifully soft leather, some within a similar price range.

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 30/10/2019 10:39

If you've already got a bump at 4 months that affects the fit, soon you won't be able to zip it up at all. Then you won't be able to wear it for the rest of your pregnancy and then until you are back to the size you are now, so possibly 7+ months. I'd wait until afterwards and enjoy having a new jacket to wear post baby.

ReginaGeorgeous · 30/10/2019 11:34

Of the two, the Reiss one is better but I'd keep looking elsewhere.

NancyEspana · 30/10/2019 11:39

I also love the beaten up look! But I prefer the Reiss one. I think it will look better after it's been worn a bit too.

Apileofballyhoo · 30/10/2019 11:44

I like the mint velvet one best. The Reiss is not right at all. The Joe Brown is much nice but maybe too distressed looking for your taste?

Grafittiqueen · 30/10/2019 11:47

I really don't like the joe Brown's one. The Reiss one is ok but a bit meh. No point in spending that amount of money if you don't love the item.

I have an All Saint's Bales which I love.

dontgobaconmyheart · 30/10/2019 13:11

Sorry OP but the Joe Browns one looks pretty bad, there's worn in cool and there's contrived wrinkling, it cheapens it. I barely wear my leather jackets anymore, i think they've fallen out of style a bit in favour of oversized and longer in the waist styles so have put mine away for a bit; i used to live in them!

I like the colour of the Reiss , but if you aren't 100% sure i wouldn't keep it, i expect they will still sell it in 6 months time. Bearing in mind its about to get too cold to wear it might not fit you as you progress in the pregnancy, i would just wait until you've had the baby and get one then.

Ellapaella · 30/10/2019 13:14

Definitely the Reiss one

HappyGirlNow · 30/10/2019 13:48

I have a few Reiss leather jackets which I love, real quality. I love the colour of that one, so much so that I’ve just bought it so thank you! 😊

That being said, at £350 and also for your big birthday, you need to love it. If any bit of it annoys you (zips) just hold off and wait till you find something you love.

I hate Joe Browns and I hate that jacket, it’s hideous and so cheap looking.

dontcallmelen · 30/10/2019 16:24

@Thistledew I have a Reiss jacket, lovely soft leather & has got better with age, if you like the joe brown style Muabba on brand alley is similar but much better quality, masimo Dutti have really good leather jackets also jigsaw & Sainsbury’s premium leather jackets are brilliant quality for the money. I find all saints to heavy but they are again very good quality.

Lucked · 30/10/2019 21:15

I love the Reiss one and it will look better once worn in. I really dislike the JB one.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/10/2019 21:23

Sorry but that JB one is horrible - it looks like beef jerky.

The Reiss one is nice, but personally I think you should a) look in All Saints and b) wait until after the baby is born before buying it.
