Converse too. Reeks of “trendy mom”
Oh turns out I've been rocking 'trendy mom' since I was 15. And my Dad has been rocking 'trendy mom' since the 70s!

What an embarrassment of a post.

Gwenhwyfar · 29/10/2019 10:39

"Maybe this is a UK thing and not being in the UK, i just don't get it confused"

I'd say the COMPLETE opposite. Indoor scarves are MUCH more common on the continent than here.

potatoeseverywherepot · 29/10/2019 10:39

If I'm indoors I really don't care wtf I'm wearing. I put my jeans on to do the nursery run and now I'm back at home at my desk I'm in my pyjamas and a fleece.

You have too much time on your hands OP.

So what are us oldies meant to wear to cover our crepey necks then? I can't wear polo necks, they don't flatter me and also make me feel claustrophobic.

potatoeseverywherepot · 29/10/2019 10:39

Converse too. Reeks of “trendy mom”

Well that's interesting as I'm 30 and have been wearing them since I was 13.

wigglybluelines · 29/10/2019 10:40

Find your personal style and you look and feel good whatever, it all comes round again at some point anyway

This.

Style & beauty doesn't necessarily mean slavishly following fashion trends.

Can't believe people are still doing this, now that climate change is looming large.

Surely buying a new wardrobe to be "in" or not using items you like because they're not "in" this season, is part of a throw-away consumer culture that is fast becoming outdated?

ZaZathecat · 29/10/2019 10:40

Or is it OK/obligatory to look frumpy once you're pushing 60?

Elodie2019 · 29/10/2019 10:42

Evil I can't find the faux Afghan I saw on the model in the shop on Saturday.
Maybe they've been snapped up by all the trendy kids or maybe it was a special limited edition to test if they can sell absolutely anything no matter how grim- the market?

DodgeRainClouds · 29/10/2019 10:43

I literally can’t stand it when people decide what is ‘in’ or ‘out’. Who gives a crap!

Bowerbird5 · 29/10/2019 10:44

Yeah Raven ! Me too.Only I am granny age though I haven't got any grandchildren yet.

Freda I know exactly what you mean. I also have an "ample bosum."You can refold them too if spillage too conspicuous eg. soup, pasta etcGrin

Elodie2019 · 29/10/2019 10:45

Thenightsky You wouldn't have that problem nowadays ... faux Afghan coats machine washable! Grin

I hated fur, leather suede coats - they really did stink!

GabsAlot · 29/10/2019 10:45

iIlove my leggings go with anything and are comfy -wear what you like

I'm hoping the OP will come back with an approved list of items we should all be wearing.

An acceptable uniform, if you will.

haverhill · 29/10/2019 10:50

What an odd thread. Goady, ageist, sexist and in some posts, appalling written.
Avoid indoor scarves if you wish, you’ll still be unpleasant.

ZaZathecat · 29/10/2019 10:54

Spider, yes perhaps op could give us an approved list for each age group, and show the tipping point where frumpy becomes acceptable.

BubblyWater · 29/10/2019 10:56

I like a nice Breton too but a good Breton too is hard to find.

But then I am a tired frumpy mum. My corporate wear is well put together but by the weekend I just could not be arsed and want to be comfortable, not stylish.

BubblyWater · 29/10/2019 10:57

*top, not too

billandbenflowerpotmen1 · 29/10/2019 10:58

When we were teens the only time people kept scarves on was to hide love bites
I can't help but imagine that everyone is see wearing an indoor scarf is hiding a love bite

Thehagonthehill · 29/10/2019 10:59

Are indoor scarfs the same as wearing a scarf indoors.I do this in winter to keep my neck warm.
As to old and frumpy, that's OK,I have my own style and also wear clothes until they wear out.

Elodie2019 · 29/10/2019 11:01

I'd also love to know what the OP's style is!

Musicforsnorks · 29/10/2019 11:04

How can a scarf be frumpy, even?

Oh look, fashion changes. And when it does, a whole herd of —cattle— storm forth to conform to whatever marketing tactic instigated it.

So one moment a scarf or a cut of jeans is MUMSYOMG, the next it is resurrected by some nondescript gaggle of IG influencers.

Like skirts, dresses, chunky boots. I was told last year the docmarten shoes were frumpy, for policewomen, but now OMGTRENDING.

I don’t know what the fuck an indoor scarf is. I must give it some serious thought.

NewName73 · 29/10/2019 11:05

I'm 55. Am I old enough to wear an indoor scarf yet?

Drabarni · 29/10/2019 11:05

The great thing about being in my 50's is I don't give a damn about this stuff.
I wear scarves and headscarves and I'm always getting compliments.
My shoes and boots are converse, and Docs.

I don't wear my headscarves in any particular way I experiment with turbans, and boho styles.
