Surely the height of being stylish is wearing what flatters you, not what is in fashion?

BruceAndNosh · 29/10/2019 13:49

How sad that on a parenting site "mumsy" and "primary school teacher" are pejorative terms

TheGoddessFrigg · 29/10/2019 13:50

You see,I don't actually give a fuck that my neck is wrinkled. The horror!

If I didn't know better I would think that a lot of MN posters don't actually like other women.

AliciaQuays · 29/10/2019 13:55

Of course not! You don’t like people simply because they’re women - nor should you have to

I've never seen the point of scarves (unless to keep you warm in the winter), but they will have to prise my converse off my cold dead feet before I give them up voluntarily - I love them Smile

RatherBeRiding · 29/10/2019 14:03

Meh, I am 54. I've seen fashions come and fashions go. Nothing so ludicrous as a fashionista adoring what was frumpy six months ago or sneering at what used to be fashionable

Wear what you like and what makes you feel good. Style is not fashion

Yes. YES. YESSSSS

lottiegarbanzo · 29/10/2019 14:06

Indeed.

Off to rummage through my cardigan collection, dig out my converse and re-visit my most beautiful scarves. This is making me feel strangely happy - and youthful (that I wasn't a very fashionable youth is entirely beside the point) Halloween Grin

Herja · 29/10/2019 14:10

I like scarves. I'm in my 20's, very far from mumsy in my dress. I also like being warm, both my home and university are fucking freezing; I own and wear a lot of scarves and will not be stopping. I hate clothing trends, it's all a load of bollocks.

Mickhasnotorso · 29/10/2019 14:16

OP what do you generally wear?

Musicforsnorks · 29/10/2019 14:23

I think that anyone who cares too much about what other people wear,,coupled with a sneering regard to what isn’t bang-on-trend (puke) needs to have a good sit down. A long one. Then maybe get some fresh air and read a good novel.

Or just wind their necks the fuck back in.

TheHoundsofLove · 29/10/2019 14:24

I'm interested in style. Although less so in fashion, tbh. I love an 'indoor' scarf. I favour the oversized variety that I can loop round my neck and then drape over my shoulders. They're great as keep me warm but aren't as restrictive as thick jumpers can be.

DustyMaiden · 29/10/2019 14:28

It’s an accessory to dress an outfit makes it look finished.

Drabarni · 29/10/2019 14:32

I'm upstairs in front of my mirror practising all those lovely head coverings. Grin If nothing else this thread has made me practice a bit.

How about these scarves, I wear these a lot Grin I practice this too. You're never too old.

Sonia if you are still about, it's great fun and keeps you in shape. Not that I'm saying you aren't, I don't know you.
You just sound fun.

Jaynetheplane · 29/10/2019 14:45

@NotTonightHalloween I don’t know why? I’m all woman, I’ve got 7 children!

Nothing against mums but there is a certain look you see on the middle aged stresses out ones that look like they’ve given up, the word mumsy exists for a reason, let’s not be all PC and pretend we’re not allowed to say or think it.

CravingCheese · 29/10/2019 14:46

@Drabarni
I love headscarves.

I do often repurpose my scarves as headscarves when I'm cold. Or when it's rainy / windy and I don't want my hair to get (too) messy.

My DM often wears headscarves in that vintage-y fashion manner. She looks soo good and classy. But I feel like I'm not old enough (yet) to pull this off properly... I think it might look a bit costumy on me.

Jaynetheplane · 29/10/2019 14:46

no one is saying anyone has to stop wearing anything, we’re all allowed opinions!

Any and all scarves itch me to death (yes even silk) evil creatures

Jaxhog · 29/10/2019 14:53

Why do you care? Wear a scarf if you want to, don't if you don't.

Exactly. What does it matter?

happycamper11 · 29/10/2019 14:54

Never heard the phrase indoor but I love a scarf and one is rarely off my neck October- May whether I'm indoors or out. Bigger the better! Judging by the amount for sale in H&M etc they are still very much a thing.

LolaSmiles · 29/10/2019 14:55

Well that got heated in places for a style and beauty thread Grin

I'm not sure where my scarf useage fits in the style stakes.

I love blanket scarves and mid weight scarves but will sometimes keep them on indoors, don't like light weight silky scarves.
I'm not a fan of long knitted scarves (which is guess are outdoor scarves).

MN style jury, what's the verdict on scarves like this example?

There’s nothing as frumpy as indoor scarves
