I bought an obscenely expensive jacket and I'm not sorry

As a result of late night shopping and feeling sorry for myself infertility I have ended up with a beautiful leather jacket. £300 and I don't care. It's more than I've ever spent on any one thing besides my house and education. My friend said I need to be sectioned. I'm not sure if she's joking Grin

Tell me what have you love and have treated yourself to against your better judgement?

i love it! tears(and years)ago my ma handed me £500 and told me to show up "photo ready" and "not chatty"for my sisters graduation.i spent £340 on a pair of boots. with whatever is left i bought, red split slide trousers, cream slim look class polo neck,a red scarf, full length fitted cream coat, cram ankle boots, red bag, hair dyed silvery blond and got local trainee to do bottom inch bright red...the usual degree pix were "delayed"cos photographer spent full hour doing portfolio(his)pics of me(i know!)my sis was oblivious cos fckt off with her friends so no glory stealing)i still have the boots.worn twice.

ReanimatedSGB · 24/10/2019 23:56

Erm, £300 is not obscenely expensive for a good quality jacket you will wear for years (and I say this as someone who would never spend that much on an item of clothing - but who did spend £45 on a secondhand book a few months agao...)

Emmeline50 · 24/10/2019 23:57

Your jacket looks fab!

My buy was a Dyson Airwrap. I use it all the time and I love it so much! I felt so guilty when I bought it but zero regrets!

HasThisSoddingNameGoneToo · 24/10/2019 23:59

I once bought a coat for £600. My rent was £650. It was the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen. I still have it and love it, 25 years later.

elfycat · 25/10/2019 00:09

DH bought a leather coat a few years ago that was £1100 in a decent sale. He put it on as a joke and sort of melted into it (he's a 6ft 4 brick-shithouse sized man) and he took it off regretfully.

I made him buy it - we got the store's credit card to get the cashback. It was a lot of money, and DD1 was a baby so we had new expenses BUT it's 10 years old now and still looks good on him and he still loves wearing it. So it's a £110 a year coat at the moment and still in use. I've spent £110 on outfits that are long gone now.

Enjoy your coat, it could well be an investment piece and you'll love it every wear.

Now I want a coat I'm in love with !

Why do people feel the need to share their unsolicited opinions on whether they like the OP’s jacket!?

Good for you OP and make sure you savour every second that you wear it. It's a great feeling to invest in something that we truly love and will get a thrill from using - particularly when we determine not to save it for best or be too precious about it and I think this is especially true of coats/jackets since often that's the only thing on show from our outfits.

A good quality coat is worth an investment price. I have two Paul Smith cashmere/wool coats; one is 11 years old, the other 9 years old. Each cost approx £550/£650 and both are still in "as new" condition and are classics with a twist so will always be stylish. I bought myself an Isabel Marant coat this week - I had coveted the same style for over a year & saved specifically to buy it. It was the most I have ever spent on one item from my own bank account and was just shy of £800. I felt so proud of myself for having worked my ass off to buy myself something so beautiful.

Justaboy · 25/10/2019 00:54

Rock chick kool to my mind;)

Minorityreports · 25/10/2019 00:59

'Well wear' as we say in Ireland!

UniversalAunt · 25/10/2019 01:03

‘Insensitive after the op said she was feeling down about her infertility.’

Really? Just a matter of fact comment about wearing an expensive coat many times over except when too pregnant, entirely in the spirit of the thread & responding to OP’s query.

^^

This is what I want

ViciousJackdaw · 25/10/2019 01:58

Ten years ago, I spent £125 on a silk scarf. A bloody scarf. It's really warm though, still looks as good as new and is worn at least once a week in winter. So that's £12.50 a year which isn't bad at all really.

managedmis That's really nice and won't date. I say get it if you can!

toomuchisneverenough · 25/10/2019 02:11

OMGshefoundmeout · 25/10/2019 02:19

It’s fine OP. Spend your money to please yourself not a jealous sounding friend.

About 35 years ago I was sad and broke and dumped and working two jobs to pay my mortgage. I spent £14.99 I could ill afford on a candy striped towelling bathrobe from Etam. I wore it for years until it pretty much disintegrated and just remembering it now makes me happy.

blanketsallday · 25/10/2019 02:44

I'm not a massive fan of the jacket personally. I love all saints but I just don't think that style flatters you? If you keep it I would wear it undone.

EnidButton · 25/10/2019 03:29

You deserve that jacket. Infertility and all of the accompanying bullshit sucks absolute balls. Fuck it. Wear your fancy, gorgeous jacket with pride. Flowers

EnidButton · 25/10/2019 03:31

I really like it btw.

minesagin37 · 25/10/2019 04:42

I would probably spend 300 on a decent winter coat - Jigsaw for example so it's not that radical. Just wear it and it will be money worth spending.

NancyEspana · 25/10/2019 06:58

You definitely should not be sorry! It's a lovely coat, you look great in it and price per weat will be low.

I am a fat apple shape, with broad shoulders and not much of a waist. If I wore it, I would look like Si the Hairy Biker, although my beard isn't quite so impressive...Grin.

You look amazing though. No shame in the £300 price ticket either. Friend is clearly jealous of your amazing jacket!

NancyEspana · 25/10/2019 06:58

Price per wear*

S0CKS · 25/10/2019 07:39

I brought an expensive handbag to me anyway and i love it every day.

MoltoAgitato · 25/10/2019 07:59

Enjoy! I have an All Saints jacket and it’s absolutely worth it. Years and years of wear.

RickOShay · 25/10/2019 08:11

@TheBeesKnee I love the colour, and I think you will get a lot of wear from it. @JaceLancs, Your ring is beautiful, I have been lusting after a diamond flower ring for ages! Could I ask where you bought it?

TheBeesKnee · 25/10/2019 08:14

Thank you for the kind comments Cake

I will wear it undone mostly as it's a very warm jacket, this was the only photo I had to hand. I tried to take a new one last night but the lighting in my house is terrible!

£300 is a lot of money for me to spend on myself although I can afford it - I usually buy things from eBay or cheaper high street shops. Part stinginess, part "saving for the baby" which is obviously not looking very likely at this point. This was brand new, all mine, and I'm not used to spending so much on myself.

I love that coat managedmis go treat yourself Grin will you be getting the violet colour?
