I bought an obscenely expensive jacket and I'm not sorry

As a result of late night shopping and feeling sorry for myself infertility I have ended up with a beautiful leather jacket. £300 and I don't care. It's more than I've ever spent on any one thing besides my house and education. My friend said I need to be sectioned. I'm not sure if she's joking Grin

Tell me what have you love and have treated yourself to against your better judgement?

Why not?! Enjoy it. I was dumped about five years ago, and I bought a very expensive bag and it did bring me joy😍🍷👜

TJH1 · 24/10/2019 22:33

If you love it that’s great and I think you should wear what you like. For me there’s too much hardware and I don’t like the belt or fur collar.

avinitall · 24/10/2019 22:34

Enjoy it, looks fab and you'll smile every time you wear it. I do with my All Saints leather

PollyShelby · 24/10/2019 22:34

Can't beat a good buy.

PurpleDaisies · 24/10/2019 22:36

I bought a gorgeous ring from Alex Monroe after I passed a course I was doing. I love wearing it because it reminds me of how I felt when I found out I’d done really well.

WineIsMyCarb · 24/10/2019 22:38

I like to wait until business is not very busy and I don't have much disposable income to see an amazing coat in a fairly expensive high street shop. Last year it was Cos, the one before was LK Bennet. In my defence the Cos one was on sale and my first chance to wear it was last week (because it was chocolate brown wool - heaven!).

I know you didn't ask but YANBU OP!

FarAwaySheep · 24/10/2019 22:39

A leather jacket is an investment. Gets better with age, never goes out of style.

About five years ago I bought a coat for £350. It made my eyes water to spend that much on a piece of clothing. But I've worn it so often since that it's worked out a much, much better bargain than my cheaper clothes (and it's still going strong). Love that coat Grin

GoBackToPartyCity · 24/10/2019 22:39

It’s a lovely jacket but wear it open, don’t zip it up!

MorrisZapp · 24/10/2019 22:41

Just another day in S&B 😂😂

superram · 24/10/2019 22:41

It’s great, for me about 2 inches too short but I’m old and like yo tuck things in. Enjoy it!

Craftycorvid · 24/10/2019 22:45

Classic biker jacket and will age beautifully, go with everything and bring joy. That’d be 300 quid well spent there, OP.

percheron67 · 24/10/2019 22:45

Good for you! I hope you really enjoy it. I have a desperate yearning for a classic Chanel bag - not sure that I will ever achieve one.

Miniloso · 24/10/2019 22:45

It’s a classic. Love the length as you can wear with dresses and skirts too. The fur collar detaches so super versatile too. Enjoy, it’s fab!

I know you didn't ask but YANBU OP!

I thought about posting on AIBU but did not feel brave enough today.

There’s a proper route for surveys... it’s annoying that you are plastering this everywhere.

getyourgrooveback · 24/10/2019 23:04

I have a double faced cashmere coat from Céline. Made solely from the chin hairs of very exclusive cashmere goats Grin😆.
I shan't tell you the price, but it was four figures...
HOWEVER. I'm on my Fifth winter with it and it is only getting softer and more fabulous. I bloody love it.

getyourgrooveback · 24/10/2019 23:05

Price per wear, it's a steal. Wink

blubelle7 · 24/10/2019 23:06

An obscene 4 figures on a bag, on a few too many occasions. Also similar amounts on hair extensions. All pre-children. Definitely not happening now...glad I did it when I could

Moondancer73 · 24/10/2019 23:08

@joystir - they are worth every single penny. I bought my last pair two years ago in the snowy weather and I live in them. They're the comfiest thing and totally worth the £120 I paid

morrisseysquif · 24/10/2019 23:15

I don't think you'll get the wear out of that jacket you want as it is just too short on you to flatter you and so to make it a classic you will want to wear every day

Spend the money, you deserve it but I think there are are better jackets, that maybe are hip and not waist length?

ViserionTheDragon · 24/10/2019 23:15

Totally worth it, OP Smile

BillywigSting · 24/10/2019 23:21

@rosamund you are going to end up getting banned and rightly so if you do not pack that the fuck in. There is a proper route for surveys and spamming other posters threads is not it. I have reported your post.

Op your jacket looks great, really suits you and is, like pp have said, an investment!

I have a leather biker jacket that was my dad's, he had it for about 15 years before me, and got it off a friends brother who had it for a solid decade before that. I inherited it around 15 years ago so it's nearly 50 years old now (has been relined once or twice) but is as soft as butter and still going strong. I reckon it's got another good ten years or so in it. It has been well looked after though so the leather has softened rather than dried out and cracked.

It was in an equivalent price bracket to yours when it was bought but price per wear had paid for itself multiple times over.

TheBeesKnee · 24/10/2019 23:27

postermorrisseysquif

I actually specifically looked for a shorter jacket as I am pear-shaped and have wide hips - anything that stops at the hip is unflattering on me, very boxy and baggy as my chest is small to boot Smile

I have an Allsaints faux fur lined leather biker and have worn it every winter for 3 years, I love mine. Definitely a good buy OP
You won't regret it
I also have a Shearling biker which I also love. Always glad I have both jackets every winter. Sometimes wearing a parka can just get a bit dull
