Hi

After thinking about it for a long time ive decided i would like to get my nose pierced, however for some reason I cant seem to get past how painful it will be. Im in my 30's, had my ears pierced 3 times each side, have had children but have an irrational fear of nose piercing. Ive done my research on where to get it done and I even drove there today but couldnt go in. Thing is i know it will look fab, im just not sure why I find the thought of it so bad.

Someone please be honest, how painful is it and did anyone else feel this way?

Minimal pain, I found it very easy and was done very quickly.
The only "painful part" is where they pull the tube part through to put the stud/ring in.
Bit sore but not very painful at all.

Might make your eyes water though. Good luck!

Ohyesiam · 24/10/2019 13:47

I’ve had it done twice and it’s not painful at all.

billandbenflowerpotmen1 · 24/10/2019 13:47

I had mine done about 12 years ago. I found it more than uncomfortable but not horrendously painful if that makes sense. It also was more than uncomfortable for about two weeks afterwards
All worth it though and I love it

busymummy19 · 24/10/2019 13:49

I had mine done when I was a teenager with a Needle - that really hurt.

I had it done again a couple of years ago with a gun and it barely hurt at all
No problems with healing either, I love it

SleepyKat · 24/10/2019 13:49

Didn’t hurt at all.

penisbeakers · 24/10/2019 13:50

You can numb your skin with emla cream first. It's helpful for tattoos and piercings. I had my nose pierced and it didn't hurt even without cream.

Veterinari · 24/10/2019 13:54

Ears are much More painful than nose

StormBaby · 24/10/2019 13:54

My lovely piercing lady uses a freeze spray first

I had mine done as a teen and it barely hurt.
Had it done much more recently and it was very painful. I swore the house down and it thronged for the rest of the day. Following morn it was fine and no bother since.
Pop some painkillers and use the cream just in case. The time it hurt it was with a needle (And what looked like a pair of pliers) I'd go for a gun if you can find somewhere that'll do it.

eenymeenyminyme · 24/10/2019 13:58

I've had mine done twice and it didn't hurt, just made one eye water!

Please don't have it done with a gun though, a needle makes for a much cleaner piercing which is easier to look after.

jammie24 · 24/10/2019 14:51

hi all. Thank you for the replies.
The lady i have looked into uses a needle.
I didnt realise you could get numbing cream, is it safe to use before nose piercings?
Im hoping to go over the next few days and be brave enough to get it done

Honestly, it’s one of the least painful you can get. It’s barely anything more than a pinch, and over in seconds!! You won’t regret it!

brightonroc · 24/10/2019 21:43

It didn't hurt but I did pass out in M&S afterwards.

Ginkypig · 24/10/2019 22:01

I personally found it by far the worst piercing I ever got (out of many including nipples and cartilage) but I think I may have a stray nerve there (that shouldn't be there) as even weeks later when I tried to change it as soon as I touched it it felt like lighting pain like when your tooth has an exposed nerve and something touches it!

It fell out and it was so so painful trying to get it back in that I just left it, it's the only one Iv ever had that I had to abandon and leave to close up.

I am planning on getting it redone one day but I need an operation on my nose and obviously there is no point in doing it until after and I have healed.

ATowelAndAPotato · 24/10/2019 22:07

Oooh Ginkypig, that sounds awful Shock

I’ve had mine done, definitely not that painful and I’m a total wuss normally! Grin

My eye on that side watered a lot, but I think that was more from having someone so close to my eye, IYSWIM

Go for it!

Runningonempty84 · 24/10/2019 22:20

Didn't hurt at all. Had it done with a needle years ago.
I've had everything pierced, and the most painful was my lip.

fannyanney · 24/10/2019 22:35

Zero pain, my eye didn't even water, and I was a huge wimp about it before hand. It took me years to get the courage to do it (despite multiple piercings in teens, plus a few births and all the associated jabs and blood tests that go with it). But honestly, it was like a 1 on a scale of 1-10.

TDMN · 24/10/2019 22:36

Oh man I must be a wuss, mine was a lot more painful than I was expecting Grin i have multiple ear piercings and several tattoos so I didnt think I had a low pain threshhold but it would seem from this thread I do!! Maybe mine hit a nerve or something? I would get it done again in a heartbeat though, I love it.

PonteLaCorona · 24/10/2019 22:40

Mine was done with a gun (20 years ago)
It made my eyes water then was fine.
I have honestly popped more painful spots Blush

I imagine the needle is even better.

Side point, nose healing takes f-o-r-e-v-e-r so choose a stud you are happy to leave in for a good few months and look after it.

PurpleFrames · 24/10/2019 22:44

I have/had about 15 piercings all over in total. The nose was not in the top 5 pain wise. Good luck!

EtMmz · 25/10/2019 00:06

Hi!
I'm speaking as someone with a career in body piercing, and someone that's had 30+ piercings of my own, including some of the most difficult and of much larger sizes.

I urge you not to be pierced with a gun.
Not only are they literally impossible to sterilise properly (in accordance with standards for blood and airborne pathogens), but are only ever used in environments that do not fit SafePiercing regulations. They are also incredibly dangerous, and can completely shatter areas of cartilage.

Nostril piercings are a bit spicy - they're close to the eye area and will most likely cause your eyes to water quite a lot. The pain lasts only a few seconds, and it's so so minor that you'll forget about it really quickly anyway. I understand that you're worried about the pain, but it's totally worth the few seconds of discomfort to have a piece of jewellery that makes you happy.

Your options for jewellery nowadays are great. I would recommend labret studs, especially as a parent or pet owner.

You can check for APP certified piercers in your area on the safepiercing.org website.

Good luck, and enjoy the experience! Flowers

PonteLaCorona · 25/10/2019 17:06

Yep forgot to say that although I had the gun in a dodgy shop 20 years ago, this is not the Done Thing. Do people even do this any more?

I've seen my friend have hers done with a needle and it's almost as quick and probably much nicer because it's sharp.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 25/10/2019 18:56

Nothing to it. It probably won't even make your eyes water Smile
