Cheap tubing mascara?

The only mascara that has ever worked for me is Estée Lauder double wear. All the others I've tried (including some cult favourites) smudge on my hooded lids.

Having recently learned about tubing mascaras, I'm finding it difficult to identify which ones are tubing. Does anyone have a recommendation for a high street tubing mascara? Am on SMP so can't justify £24 on a mascara right now!

I like the No7 stay perfect mascara, it's £13 from Boots. It's kind of a faff but to work out which ones are tubing but you look at the description and it will normally mention something along the lines of holding a cotton pad soaked in water to remove, or that it can be removed with just water. That's normally a give away that it's tubing, but I don't blame you if you can't be arsed to do that for every mascara on the high street!

Thanks @SpuriouserAndSpuriouser I'll have a look for the Boots one. I've got a load of points from buying baby stuff so can treat myself with those 👍

Yes, I could read all the online descriptions. But it's so much faff!

Maybelline Collosas, yellow tube with mauve writing on it. Come off with warm water and a wash cloth or cotton wool but stays on in the rain and if you cry.

Doll Eyes by ???? £8.
The No7 one is much cheaper on EBay.

I have the exact same thing with eyelid- overhang OP! When my eyes are open my upper lashes are resting against the skin above my eyelids and normal mascara melts and give me panda eyes.

This one (see pic) was recommended by Sally Hughes in the Guardian and I've never looked back, it's amazing. It is impossible to smudge. Sometimes when rushed I skill the white mascara pre-step but it does look better if you do the white then black.

To remove I just wash my face with warm water in the shower.

That was meant to say I sometimes SKIP the white step

NYX Doll Eyes is brilliant

I love a tubing mascara but reluctant to buy online in case they are crap. I've been using the no 7 stay perfect one and I quite like it. Stays on really well and comes off easy with water. The woman in no 7 tried to get me to buy an eye make up remover too though as "water wouldn't remove it all" but I declined and you really don't need anything else to remove it.

Sunnysidegold · 23/10/2019 18:22

I think I'll try that L'Oréal one next though!

Techway · 23/10/2019 18:24

No7 waterproof is tubing and been using it for years. Best out there

Sarcelle · 23/10/2019 18:25

I used to use Clinique Lash Power - I never used to use mascara until then because of smudging. That was tubing and good, but pricey. I now use the aforementioned No 7 Stay Perfect in gold tube. As others have said, comes off with warm water, no remover needed. Not dramatic lashes if you like that false lash effect.

MrsMaiselsMuff · 23/10/2019 18:27

Another vote for No 7 Stay Perfect. I get it from ebay.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/10/2019 18:29

Tubing, is that what it's called? I didn't realise how it worked when I got my first No7 Stay Perfect - I had kittens the first time I used it as I had a bath and thought my eyelashes had fallen out!Grin I agree it's really good.

britespark1 · 23/10/2019 18:31

Agree about No 7 Stay Perfect. It's the only one that doesnt smudge for me.

rededucator · 23/10/2019 19:07

What's 'tubing' mascara?

Beautifullymixed · 23/10/2019 19:24

Just ordered the no7 mascara from ebay. £5.
I'm now exiting style and beauty before I spend anymore money. Wink

ErrolTheDragon · 23/10/2019 19:25

It's mascara which stays put until you wash it off - wet and rub basically. It then kind of rolls off without leaving smudges.

Boobiliboobiliboo · 23/10/2019 22:47

L’Oréal and Maybelline are Nestle companies.........

MsChatterbox · 23/10/2019 22:49

I use natural collection mascara. Works great. It's £1 something! The only issue is you have to scrape off excess product using the edge of the tube but this takes seconds and it gets pushed back in when you close it so no wastage.

MsChatterbox · 23/10/2019 22:51

Sorry. Never heard of tubing mascara before. I thought you meant mascara in a tube and assumed expensive mascara came out of something else 🤣

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 24/10/2019 08:30

Iirc they are discontinuing the gold tube No7 one, so worth buying more asap if you like it. Mind you Boots will probably bring out a replacement just in a different tube.

Dizzywizz · 24/10/2019 12:38

Yeah I don’t get this tubing mascara and what it is??

alwaysthinkingofsleep · 24/10/2019 12:43

@Sarcelle Clinique LP was my go to but again I'm sick of paying over £20 every couple of months. How does the no7 one compare?

whitershadeofpale · 24/10/2019 12:52

I have to use tubing mascara too and for cheap would say no.7 (I like the effect of the L’Oréal one but find you often see white bits poking through the black) but Mybelline Snapscara is better I think. A lot of places say it’s tubing but it’s not a ‘true’ tubing mascara, it’s wax free though which is why I don’t think it smudges. It washes off in flakes.

My other tip is that for night’s out you can layer a tubing mascara over a normal one (if you’re like me you’re bound to have loads you’ve abandoned as they smudge!). It gives you the volume you can’t get from tubing mascara but stops it’s smudging.

A word of warning in that lots of people try and be helpful and advice mascaras that don’t smudge on them. They are really often not tubing though, I’ve seen several recommended on this thread. If you need tubing none others will work so can people please check what they’re recommending, and do your research before buying anything.

Sarcelle · 24/10/2019 18:16

@alwaysthinkingofsleep If I was a millionaire I would still use the cheaper No 7 one. I prefer it the more expensive Clinique one now.

I buy it when I get those frequently issued money off No 7 vouchers. So normally get another 3 quid off.

I see some get it for a fiver on ebay so perhaps try that route in case you don't like it.
