Opinion on these shoes pls

Looking for opinions on these shoes please. Bought them as an alternative to boots/trainers to wear with jeans/winter skirts & dresses etc. DH's reaction put me off a bit and now I'm not so sure. I'm mid 40s by the way https://m.deichmann.com/GB/en/shop/home-ladies/00009001726146/Ladies+Black+Chunky+Lace+Up+Brogues+.prod?gclid=Cj0KCQjw6KrtBRDLARIsAKzvQIGycya-QsQWN3BHG1msAewr2HyeEPDu51XTC9bmbnna-joZJUVKjkaArs1EALww_wcB

No from me, look too much like children's school shoes Grin I'm early 40's

Bluntness100 · 19/10/2019 18:07

They are like rhs school shoes I had, literally. I'm sorry op, I didn't like them then and I don't like them now.

I'm fifty and wouldn't wear them. There are some lovely brogues out there, these are not it,

OnGoldenPond · 19/10/2019 18:11

Love them. They are DM knock offs but much cheaper so good value. Bet they are really comfortable and great with anything.

What is your DH's objection exactly? If he is saying you are too old to wear DM type shoes tell him to get tae fuck! This 50 year old has worn DM's nearly every day for over 30 years and has no intention of giving them up any time soon! Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/10/2019 18:13

Policeman shoes

I don't like them, sorry. Knock off DMs never look quite right.

OnGoldenPond · 19/10/2019 18:14

School shoes ??! Confused

Are we looking at the same link? I would never have been allowed to wear those at school!

Just because they are flat does not make them school shoes!

OnGoldenPond · 19/10/2019 18:15

Alternatively you could go for real DMs.

Pricey but they will last for years.

Moominfan · 19/10/2019 18:15

I love them! They look smart and comfortable

Shylo · 19/10/2019 18:16

I love brogues and wear them with formal clothes, jeans, dresses the lot lol ..... but I wouldn’t wear these, the soles are very clunky IMO

VioletCharlotte · 19/10/2019 18:18

I love these and would wear them with woolly tights and dresses/ skirts. I've got a similar pair, but not so chunky. These are like DMs.

Candle1000 · 19/10/2019 18:18

I like them ,would look good with above the knee skirt and thick tights

TheFaerieQueene · 19/10/2019 18:19

A no from me.

Idontneeditatall · 19/10/2019 18:25

Ongoldenpond why on earth weren’t you allowed to wear shoes like that to school? They look exactly like school shoes

MrsMaiselsMuff · 19/10/2019 18:29

Surely you were allowed to wear DM shoes to school Golden?

They are very school shoe like curly. If you're looking for a nicer brogue look at Clarks Hamble Oak.

Fairylea · 19/10/2019 18:32

I’d go for proper DMs if you can afford to.

OnGoldenPond · 19/10/2019 18:37

No way were we allowed to wear DMs at school! I wish!

Only demure girly shoes allowed, absolutely no thick soles.

This was the dark time known as the 80s though Grin

OnGoldenPond · 19/10/2019 18:39

Don't go for "nice brogues" OP. Far too middle aged!

Proper DMs all the way!

MrsMaiselsMuff · 19/10/2019 18:42

I was at school in the late 80s, DM shoes were the norm. Perhaps you went to a particularly strict one.

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 · 19/10/2019 18:49

Its a no from me

Napmum · 19/10/2019 19:16

Not a fan of brogues and these are too chunky for me (I am 36). I like a good smart trainer including multicoloured trainers with trousers and jeans. Or a boot with anything but if you love them then that's what matters. Sounds like these are a bit marmite as in you either love them or you hate them. My husband hates some of my shoes I still wear them and get lots of compliments about them. What does my husband know about women's fashion anyway?

curlyLJ · 19/10/2019 20:08

Hmm, bit of a mixed bag there.

I just fancied something a bit different and I thought non-chunky brogues were a bit too smart for school run etc.

My DH said I would look like a lesbian Blush

Posted too soon.

Maybe proper DMs would be better if I want the chunky look 🤷🏻‍♀️

My DH says I dress like a dyke

I give no fucks

TigerJoy · 20/10/2019 00:42

So many women at my work wear these (higher education) and i think they look really funky

Iamthewombat · 20/10/2019 00:52

Hid e ass!

Don’t buy them. Those shoes say, ‘I have given up on life’.

The other thing with that type of shoe is, hardly anyone is the correct shape and size for them. Thin people look like they have bricks strapped to their feet, whilst bigger people look like they have shire horse hooves. So a lose/lose situation.

Moominfan · 20/10/2019 09:39

What's wrong with looking like a lesbian 🤷🏾‍♀️
