It can go too far I think.
There needs to be a little less volume to the dresses, and not all hiker style boots are a good look.

If the model looks this bad, I would look like a toddler in mums clothes

Toast kind of tiptoe around this with styling and I just wish they’d make it a tad sleeker, at least a touch of shape to the waist area or a gradual flare.

You could pull off cattle rustling under that. Are bare wrists a thing now? It has a "it shrank a bit here & there but there's a lot of wear still left in it" look going on. I've an overwhelming urge to hand her a black polo neck jumper & make her put it on under the "dress".

Musicforsnorks · 19/10/2019 17:34

I like the loose dress with boots thing, especially chunky boots, just not this.

When anything gets touted as on trend there’s always these dreadful outliers.
I think a lot of the dresses and boots worn by toast models look lovely. But they are too billowy for me in real, life.

Perhaps plumo styling is more ‘honest’, like they are not making extra effort to pin and pose the models to make the clothes more attractive.

There’s that.

And no, I don’t think clothes need to look ‘attractive’.
The weirder the better for me.

I just don’t like cynical marketing.

Grayson Perry would look good in it.

Musicforsnorks · 19/10/2019 17:55

Some of their styling is lovely

I nearly started a thread about Toast last night.
At a glance this seasons offerings look like only a flawless figure, luminous skin and youthful hair could save you from getting sectioned/ arrested/ boycotted by otherwise loyal friends.
And then only just.

CalamityJune · 19/10/2019 18:12

I'm really liking the long dress or skirt with boots trend- it's really comfy as well as smart. But that first pic is awful.

The last one you posted with the while sweater and blue skirt is lovely. I tend to go for chelsea type boots though.

Floisme · 19/10/2019 18:18

It made me laugh and I'm quite fond of a bit of Toast.
And the male gaze has been sliding past me for some time .

Supersimkin2 · 19/10/2019 18:24

Toast took off in the early 90s. They've churned out the same neutral sack so long they're back in fashion.

I love a sack, me.

If you were also around in the early 90s, you need to wear your sack with contemp stuff, or you run the risk of looking simultaneously dowdy and deranged. Time for equally lovely and comfy Air Max.

MargotLovedTom1 · 19/10/2019 18:25

Er, no, thetardis - my own gaze is the arbiter of acceptability, with it being a matter of personal taste and all that Hmm.

DontCallMeShitley · 19/10/2019 18:31

Orphan Annie dress

I know this look is on trend but..
thetardis · 19/10/2019 18:34

oh wow a side-eye ShockGrin

hope your arbitrage is all you hoped for :)

Nanalisa60 · 19/10/2019 18:39

Well you could eat as much as you wanted!! Cos it looks two sizes to big.
But I expect If your are a darling from Camden it will go down a storm!!

Boots could come in very handy if we get a bed winter!!

It’s bit a smile on my face!!

Nanalisa60 · 19/10/2019 18:40

Bad winter not bed winter!!

happytobemrsg · 19/10/2019 18:51

I’m liking that clothes are becoming more about being comfy rather than dressing for other people. But that dress is HUGE

LivingDeadGirlUK · 19/10/2019 18:51

I'm trying to figure out if a belt would help, as I love the colour and pattern and the boots, but I think its a lost cause...

StCharlotte · 19/10/2019 18:58

Hideous sackful of nope.

I'm stealing that!

EdWinchester · 19/10/2019 18:58

Last weekend, 8 girlfriends and I went for a birthday lunch at a very swanky London restaurant. We've been doing this for about 10 years.

I noticed how all of us (apart from one) were wearing Air & Grace, Veja trainers or DMs.

A few years back we'd have been tottering around in high shoes and boots. The one person in heels was in agony by the time we went home.

I love this trend and hope it continues. (Not to the extent of the OP's pic though!)

FreeBedForFlys · 19/10/2019 19:01

It’s repulsive.

Musicforsnorks · 19/10/2019 19:12

Orphan Annie was my first style crush. I’m being serious. When I went into hospital for a week when I was 8 my parents bought me a bright red Annie wig and I wore it all through Grin

When I was 16 (in 1990) the long skirt and doc martens thing happened and I was home at last!

So yeh, this is my thing, and I’ve always hated the skin tight look, but the plumo image really does surpass my limit!

Sad thing about trends @EdWinchester is that once it’s gone, the comfort stuff won’t be easy to find. Let’s hope it lasts 20yrs like skinnies did :)

Strawberrycreamsundae · 19/10/2019 19:14

She looks like Annie from the Bone Yard as my DM would say, or an escapee from the workhouse.
I have ample norks so that dress would make me look 10 months pregnant 😳

CurlyhairedAssassin · 19/10/2019 23:33

Musicforsnorks, that white jumper photo is just what I wore as a 6th former circa 1991.

Divebar · 20/10/2019 08:52

I don’t mind the dress although I’d prefer it one size smaller and in black & white. I saw a young woman wearing a similar style working in the Tate - she had it styled with Dr Marten boots and looked great. ( Hers was from Olive). It would look shit on me though because I need more of a waist. Thankfully we all like different things because it would be a dull old world if everyone walked around in Hush.

StarlightLady · 20/10/2019 09:19

I love dresses. I could live in them. But one has to draw the line somewhere. Not for me!

BubblesBuddy · 20/10/2019 09:31

It depends if you think Toast and Plumo are fashionable clothes. I don’t think they set out to be. They are clothes that are bought by people that are a little bit bohemian and do not change their look according to the catwalk trends. Personally I don’t see anything wrong with that and of course these dresses are not D&G or Prada. They are not intended to be. Neither are they cynical. They are just aimed at people who like this style. Nothing wrong with variety of clothes being available or indeed people who want to buy them without the searing criticism on here.
