Hi, my first ever post although I've been on here a long time. I need help deciding whether to keep a coat , I've ordered, or not . I'm sorry I can't seem to get a link to work but it's the Boden hengrave coat in leopard print. Saw it in John Lewis , tried it on , didn't buy it as needed a petite fit so ordered it from Boden . It fits perfectly but I'm worried I'm too old . I'm 51 . Should I just send it back ? What's the consensus ? Thanks in advance, your help will be much appreciated .

Wear what ever you like.

TottieandMarchpane · 12/10/2019 07:36

No such thing as “too old”. If you like it and think it suits you, wear it!

TottieandMarchpane · 12/10/2019 07:38

This one? I like it.

Looks a classic style so go for it.

motherofdoodles · 12/10/2019 07:43

That's a lovely coat. Wear what makes you happy. Anyway M&S have one this year and their market isn't going to be all under 25s! Yours is way nicer though!

Xanadu58 · 12/10/2019 07:43

Yes, thank you for the link , that's the one ! I know I should wear whatever I like but it's having the confidence . Ridiculous I know.

Of course you aren't too old! It's a real statement coat and you will look lovely. My worry about it ( I liked it too) is that it may not end up a classic and coats are expensive! But if you will get wear out of it, go for it. I reckon you can bung it over anything and it will make you looked very chic

look here for great coat advice

Caramelblonde70 · 12/10/2019 07:45

That is one classy coat - keep it! And you're never too old to wear anything you like 😊

TottieandMarchpane · 12/10/2019 07:47

It’s very understated. Not like some big poofy, yellow-toned thing in faux-fur (although that’s fine too if you like it).

Very classic and neutral-toned.

CountFosco · 12/10/2019 07:48

There is no way you are too old for leopard print because there is no age limit - advanced style.

Xanadu58 · 12/10/2019 07:50

Thank you all, you're making me feel so much better about it! Smile

I’m 55 and often wear a leopard print coat with floral doc martens. I don’t care what anyone thinks!!

Monty27 · 12/10/2019 07:58

Rock it 👍 😊

Destinysdaughter · 12/10/2019 07:58

I'm 54 and I'd wear it! If it makes you feel good then go for it Smile

Jayaywhynot · 12/10/2019 08:06

I'm a young 53, I'd wear it, I wear leopard print shirts and I also have a leopard print scarf. It's a lovely coat, keep it an wear it with pride

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 12/10/2019 08:09

I hate leopard print on anyone regardless of age but wear it if you like it, she had nothing to do with what you wear.

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 12/10/2019 08:10

**age

Changemynamexchangemyname · 12/10/2019 08:10

Definitely not too old! As Caitlin Moran says, leopard print is a neutral 😉 it’s fab!

littlebillie · 12/10/2019 08:22

I looked at it and thought fab and also thought it may really age me ( as being too old and trying too hard? )

OutComeTheWolves · 12/10/2019 08:39

Slightly off topic but I was shopping yesterday and saw a woman who looked to be about 70. She had white hair in a really straight, sharp bob, a black leather jacket, black t shirt and skinny jeans, black biker boots and bright red lipstick. She looked fucking awesome.

I think the reason she stood out is because I think quite a few woman once they get to a certain age start dressing for certain rules (am I too old for long hair? Am I too old for skinny jeans? Etc etc) and in that it's harder to keep your own sense of style.

I hope if she saw me staring the lady I saw realised that it was because she looked great (and I mean great not great for her age) and not because I thought she was too old for a leather jacket.

Floisme · 12/10/2019 09:28

It sounds absolutely fine.

And even if it wasn't, we have as much right as young people to enjoy clothes and make mistakes sometimes.

LizTaylorsFabulousTurban · 12/10/2019 09:37

I have been eyeing that up too OP. Was slightly concerned I would look a bit Bet Lynch.

LizTaylorsFabulousTurban · 12/10/2019 09:38

Sorry meant to add that this thread had made me change my mind! I'm getting it 😁

Pinkarsedfly · 12/10/2019 09:41

If I were you I’d send it back. Not because it’s not a great coat - it is - and not because you’re too old. You’re not.

But every time I’ve had to talk myself into keeping something, I’ve worn it twice max, and then it’s either hung in my wardrobe laughing at me or I’ve charity shopped it and hated myself.

Cocolapew · 12/10/2019 09:41

I'm 51 and wear a big fluffy one from ebay Grin I love it, if you like it, wear it.
