I do agree with Bert's feminist stance.

However, I don't think Kate is a feminist particularly, and it's obvious she loves clothes, and dressing up and themed/patriotic dressing in particular. I mean I'm sure no one was holding a gun to her head and saying 'You MUST. DRESS. AS ANNE OF GREEN GABLES.'

That's why I think she's so good at her job. She is happy to be more passive, and engage with the traditional parts of a very traditional role (help with suitable charities, be a great mother, dress prettily and appropriately, smile a lot and say little).

It's why I worry a bit for Meghan (yes, yes, I know she doesn't need me to!). A significant amount of the people who are interested in or supportive of the royal family are very traditional (I mean that's why they like having a monarchy, isn't it?) and they will never be excited about a feminist, vocal woman expecting to be an equal. It's too dissonant with the institution.

Anyway on a lighter note, I MUCH prefer the gold with the jade green, I think that's a pretty iconic photo above and the virgin mary look will be not a bad thing for Kate given the angle she presents to the world, and I think silver would look a bit dated. So there.

@Ninkaninus ah don't go ,I like your contributions .Helpful and to the point .

thenewname · 17/10/2019 15:07

Sorry, I should say 'she seems happy to be presented as more passive'. I don't know her at all and I'm sure she holds her own in private!

QueenOfTheAndals · 17/10/2019 15:20

I really hope it meant Kate was a massive fan of those books while growing up, as I know I was!

Just seen pics of W&K playing cricket in Lahore and K is clearly in her element... so happy, relaxed and completely natural. Lovely pics, courtesy DM.

Doyoureallyneedtoask · 17/10/2019 15:50

Is it only me who would love to be a fly on the wall when the outfits for a tour are planned?

I’d live to see it. I imagine her stylists and people from the Pakistani cultural society in the UK Although avoiding all things political - it must be a long process.

QueenOfTheAndals · 17/10/2019 16:13

I think Kate is pretty sporty - wasn't she games captain or something like that at Marlborough?

ambereeree · 17/10/2019 16:16

I love her outfits. Very chic with western twist. Being of Indian origin I'm going to take some inspiration for my next outfit orders!

banivani · 17/10/2019 16:19

@Ninkaninus ah no, stay on the thread, we need links to Billedbladet and other Danish stuff. I'm not navigating the Danish sites!

I have to say that talking about royal fashion is more interesting if you talk about it from a more analytical perspective - and what form the analysis takes is secondary. Why did Queen VIctoria pick a white wedding dress? Why and when did the Russian tsars start getting their portrait painted in Western clothes? Why does CPV wear trouser suits from Rodebjer and Prince Daniel slick his hair back? Why does Queen E wear monochrome outfits in strong colours? Why is DoC mimicking that style in both colour (makes sense) and type of clothing? Does a RF really represent a nation and is it useful as a unifying tool? And to that I do think that it's as we say in Swedish anmärkningsvärt (noteworthy but kind of bitchier in tone) that women in RF:s are the mannequins for messages sent with clothes. Even if they're Crown P:s or Queens. It's interesting! But granted, it's not really the right thread for deep analysis. I think we serve ourselves better with some pithy comments and then moving on to the next hat.

Nink I FORBID you to leave when we're only two months away from the Nobel Prize dinner. FORBID IT. Du må ikke flounce!

And @BertrandRussell stays too obv!

Have to serve dinner now so no time to find an inspiring Swedish royal trouser suit, sorry.

whitershadeofpale · 17/10/2019 16:46

Well we did get some tiaras on this tour Grin

They both seem very good with children but I think it's good that they're not 'doing a Diana' it allows the news stories to focus on the hospital's work not just on comparisons.

Will they fly home tomorrow ready for Friday pick up time?

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 17/10/2019 17:15

Love the chuffed side eye that little girl's giving Kate in her tiara Grin

AdaColeman · 17/10/2019 17:22

Kate & Will's plane has been diverted back to Lahore due to storms.

I like the jade green outfit, by M. Khan again, and I thought it was suitable for the occasion. When Diana visited the same mosque she also wore green, but a short dress showing off her legs, (up to her armpits, as my Mother would say!)

peridito · 17/10/2019 17:32

Well I take my hat off to K &W . Such a busy schedule and being careful of protocol ( and away from their children) .

Kate appeared to have nail varnish on her toes and to be wearing tights .
(sadly hoping for kudos in spotting this .....)

Hairydilemma · 17/10/2019 17:32

Which one of us was it who liked this dress? If you come to my high st you can buy it ‘as seen on Kate Middleton’ as it says in their window.

AdaColeman · 17/10/2019 17:33

As well as conforming to local custom/dress codes Kate's outfits are also sending a message to the many Pakistani people living in Britain, hopefully making them feel valued and included.

RomaineCalm · 17/10/2019 17:35

Lovely, smiley picture of HM from a Buckingham Palace reception today.

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 17/10/2019 17:58

I noticed the tights when she was outside, but I think her feet were bare inside the mosque. Nude pop socks maybe? Clearly I have spent too much time peering at her feet in photos today and need to get myself a real life!

thisenglishlife · 17/10/2019 18:10

Love today's outfits, Kate really does suit this type of clothing.
Kate's wardrobe was probably well thought out, researched and planned...with many people involved. William's wasn't, he probably expected he'd be handed something traditional to wear, as the men often are.
And another yes to seeing this type of pant on Kate - we need something in between the sprayed on jeggings and culottes - please!

I thought she looked fab today! Her hair was amazing as always... She needs to give Max the number of her hairdresser - Max's hair hasn't been looking too good recently (with the exception of her up dos)

Doyoureallyneedtoask · 17/10/2019 18:21

You know what - I’ve had enough of trying to watch everything said on this thread.

People are falling over themselves begging a very unpleasant and aggressive poster to remain on the thread. From what I can gather, the ‘public flounce’ is highly reminiscent of the Netmums forum s/he referred to previously and I very much doubt it would result in anything other than a name change.

I have looked over previous posts because I am not arrogant enough to assume I am correct and someone else is incorrect and I confess to being much less favourable to Kate’s style than Meghan’s which is down to personal taste and is partly due also to rooting for the underdog.

This is not a public flounce as such but I’m sure will be eagerly construed as one but as a long term poster going back to the very first thread, I will say goodbye to many of you whose contributions I enjoyed, especially the links to old documentaries and thank you to Queen for starting what were generally nice threads.

thisenglishlife · 17/10/2019 18:46

Don't go @Doyoureallyneedtoask !!

Gooseysgirl · 17/10/2019 18:46

I've no idea what all the kerfuffle is about - I'm just here for the fashion and the tiaras 👸🏻

AudacityOfHope · 17/10/2019 18:52

I've been here since the first thread to and I get what you're saying @Doyoureallyneedtoask

Stick around for the chat though. I grit my teeth a wee bit through the must-always-be-agreeable climate in these threads but I do concede that they are generally less aggro than 99% of threads.

Ninkaninus · 17/10/2019 18:55

@Doyoureallyneedtoask there’s really no need to go. I am going to bow out not just due to this incident but because I’ve found myself channelling AIBU a little too much lately on threads and topics where it isn’t warranted and have been overly vehement and combative on more than one occasion in recent weeks. This is a surefire sign that I am becoming unbalanced in some aspect of my life and that’s why I’m going. In every case where I have been too combative I have gone back and apologised and this is no exception. I’m sorry for making it far too aggressive for absolutely no good reason.

I’m not flouncing and this is something I’ve been considering for a few weeks, it just happens that this was the proverbial straw.
