Help

I am going to a wedding in December, and I am stumped on what to wear.

I am 5’ 2, size 12 with a large bust.

I love this dress in whistles - but I think I would look Ridiculous in it.

Budget around £200 for dress then around £200 for a coat.

The person wearing that dress is tall and normal weight. Not sure how that look would translate for you OP- I suggest you go into actual shops and try something similar on before ordering anything.

SusieOwl4 · 06/10/2019 17:17

love the top but bit too much material at the bottom ? So I think it could be a bit too much?

Dollymixture22 · 06/10/2019 17:20

I post of these stores aren’t accessible where I live. Any suggestions on stores which do good stylish dresses for short, rotund ladies?

I am usually a Boden fan, and will probably get a coat there but stumped on the dress.

I feel old and frumpy and want something that people won’t titter at!!

I want to lose some weight before the wedding, so might get down to a size ten, but will still be short and flabby, with quite a big bust.

The length will be an issue (speaking as a fellow shorty). It throws the whole proportions off.

AnOojamaflip · 06/10/2019 17:31

The model is 5' 7" and a size 8. It'll be way too long!!

Laquila · 06/10/2019 17:31

What constitutes normal weight, Joystir?

Winter weddings are always tricky, OP.

The last two I went to, I wore a beautiful jacquard midi skirt (Oasis I think) with a plain black top and my All Saints leather jacket (it was a v cool wedding!), and previously a patterned Whistles silk v-neck dress with a black velvet blazer. (I love a velvet blazer at a winter wedding!)

I do like that dress but I’m not sure it’d do anything for me (5”6ish, 12/14 with fairly big boobs). I love the pattern though. Your problem now is that 60% of everything in shops is covered in sequins for Christmas parties 🙄

Dollymixture22 · 06/10/2019 17:31

Thanks all - I am resigned to that dress not working for me - but hoping for alternate suggestions. Any good brands out there I am overlooking?

Have you looked at shops with petite ranges like Wallis and (I think?) Phase 8?

I’m far from petite so don’t know other shops with these ranges but someone else will!

Dollymixture22 · 06/10/2019 17:36

I was hoping for something a bit more funky than Wallis and phase 8.

Simply because all my aunts are similar body shape and they all shop there😁.

I had a disinter many years ago when I wore the same coast dress as my 65 year old aunt.

OP posts:
Dollymixture22 · 06/10/2019 17:36

That should have said disaster on disinter??

Asos?

Dollymixture22 · 06/10/2019 17:56

Will nip on now and have a look. Thanks

I really want something elegant but trendy.

Being short sucks🙁

I read your height totally wrong!!

For some me reason I read 5' 2" (because 6 and 2 are so similar 🤔).

Dont try and swamp yourself is all I can advise.

This is lovely:

All the sites I'm looking at default to euro and irish supply so can't be sure what they'd be in UK sorry!!

mamaoffourdc · 06/10/2019 18:52

And just pointing out - I'm 5ft2 a size 12 with big boobs and I'm NOT fat

Dollymixture22 · 06/10/2019 19:11

The Reiss site was a revelation!!

What do we think of this (I think I would have to get he sleeves shortened.

I'm 5'2 and curvy and Reiss is for tall flat chested people.

Hobbs is a good start. Monsoon can be ok. Gerry Webber fits me too

You might want to consider separates if you are different sizes top and bottom.

Also consider the deepest v neck you can get away with.

winterisstillcoming · 06/10/2019 19:24

Bombshell is nice too

hairtoss · 06/10/2019 19:32

Wrap dress from Silk Fred?

I am a fairly big boobed size 10 5ft 6 and I am too fat and short for Reiss!

You are better off with a wrap or jersey dress I think op.

Chewbecca · 06/10/2019 19:37

Hobbs do petite now. I quite like this metallic pleated skirt depends on styling whether it will look funky or not.
this FWM petite green dress is a lovely shape but poss too classic?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/10/2019 19:40

Agree that Reiss stuff not generally great for curves.

Please don't call yourself fat though! You're a size 12 - it's hardly huge.

Hobbs sale The fabric might be horrible though - hard to tell. I like the shape. The print might not be to your taste!

Love this and it is silk Again, will depend on your taste in prints though. Only available in a 12

Dollymixture22 · 06/10/2019 19:55

I think I’m dressing the body I want rather than the body I have 🤭

Some gorgeous dresses there The Hobbs red and pink one is nice. Think I will order and try it on.

Thank you all - I have been putting this off beciase it depresses me😊
