Help

I am going to a wedding in December, and I am stumped on what to wear.

I am 5’ 2, size 12 with a large bust.

I love this dress in whistles - but I think I would look Ridiculous in it.

Budget around £200 for dress then around £200 for a coat.

Just seen this wonderful coat and now I think you should choose a dress to go with it! :)

Dollymixture22 · 08/10/2019 08:24

Better - or too casual??

Too casual, and probably not ideal for a large bust.

joystir59 · 08/10/2019 19:31

Sorry, you are a normal weight OP, but the wrong shape for that dress which is designed for a tall straight up and down kind of body rather than a voluptuous one.

Tehmina2 · 08/10/2019 19:37

@Dollymixture22 please don't put yourself down - I'm a size 12-14 & 5'3" with size 32G chest but would never describe myself as fat!!

Size 12 is not fat.

I think as you are on the petite side then a shorter length eg above the knee would suit you.

My sister found a gorgeous short Temperley dress in TK Maxx that she wore to a wedding, also a beaded short dress in Monsoon which is a good place for dresses.

Have you looked at Lipsy at Next?

I don't recommend Topshop btw as they do not cater for larger chests!

River Island have some nice dresses & skirt suits in.

Dorothy Perkins & New Look have several concessions that sell smarter dresses such as Vanilla, and Billie & Blossom.
Also try Oasis.

SparkyBlue · 08/10/2019 19:37

OP you are not fat at a size 12. I think I am similar proportions to you except I am only 4'11. I am loving Oasis clothes lately. I find the lengths are great. You should take a look at their dresses I bet you will find something. Actually the last dress I wore to a wedding was from Oasis.

Zoe Vine is amazingly flattering for curves, I have this dress in red www.zoevine.com/collections/dresses/products/billie-berry-red-ruched-wiggle-dress and get so many compliments when I wear it. I am 5'7" and a 10 - 12 ish; flat stomach, small waist, large chest and broad shoulders.

Drabarni · 08/10/2019 20:20

OP, I have the same problem, and mother of the groom. I'm 4ft 11 and a size 12.
I also have the added problem of not being able to wear heels, due to a foot injury.

I'm currently looking in all the Petite range and nothing more.
Yes, some is too young and halfway up my backside, but other styles really work well.
Look at Chi Chi, Billie and Blossom, Quiz, Wallis, they all do online.

Drabarni · 08/10/2019 20:25

I love this one, but colours not right for me.

They do so many beautiful dresses though, have a look.

It may not seem funky enough but...Bravissimo? They’ll accommodate the boobs, just watch the lengths.

Zenith123 · 17/10/2019 18:01

Hi. If you have a John Lewis go and talk to their style assistants. They'll advise you on what suits you, and you try stuff and on etc. They're really good, not frumpy, and have a great choice and prices. And it's FREE!! Good luck!!

rosepaul55 · 17/10/2019 19:15

Do you have time to make an appointment with a personal shopper at John Lewis would really solve your problem they are brilliant

ladygrinningsoul · 17/10/2019 20:21

I'm also 5'2" with a large bust - if you haven't found anything yet, try a Nancy Marilyn dress from Scarlett and Jo. The 145cm length is ankle length on me. They are a plus size company that goes down to a size 10 and it's the only off the shelf dress I've ever found that fitted properly under the arms. I liked it so much I bought several. www.scarlettandjo.com/collections/nancy-marilyn-chiffon-maxi-dress

I'm about your height and weight but dont like showing my legs (I'm quite thick set on the bottom half). That reiss dress is fab, I'd put it with tights and boots, but that's just me. The dress you linked to would likely swamp you, you'd only see the dress and not you

I'm 5' 3" with 32FF boobs and these whistles dresses are very flattering, they come with short sleeves too and lots of stretch. They are silk and really easy to dress up or down. You can get them in plain and lots of different patterns, most of mine are from eBay and cost a fraction of the full price, search Whistles bodycon

I'ma similar build - it's tricky! Phase 8 do do some lovely things, so do Coast. How about something in a style like this - maybe with sleeves as it's winter? Floaty and easy to wear, too. (Sorry about the photo....Grin)
