Work and event in London - which outfit?

I have an event in London next week, which will be filmed, for The Guardian. It’s an after work event, but talking about work and will be held in a corporate space.

I also have meetings in London all day, and my workplace is fairly conservative. For the Guardian event I wanted to look a little less formal but still workish.

I will need to wear separates as I will be miked up and it’s a pain with a dress.

Which outfit is better? I would wear shoes in the day and switch to boots at night.

Option1 looks tight and the belt is oddly position.
The colours are great though.

Option 2 looks better. But it’s a tad mumsy. Nice though. Pleasant

Dinosforall · 03/10/2019 20:04

1 definitely, looks cool. Though I'd do black shoes

PeachMelba78 · 03/10/2019 20:06

I am a Mum, so mumsy is fine! Strange comment though.
The skirt for the first is a little big, that is why it’s a bit off I think.
Otherwise I have this -

My son likes number three best - he is quite critical and doesn’t see why I want to change shoes!

Number three! Love that outfit!
Btw, where are your shoes from? The leopard & the black please.

fairislecable · 03/10/2019 20:10

Image 3 looks really smart, without shouting, just well put together.

Dinosforall · 03/10/2019 20:10

I like the new one too.

(I know some people don't like the term mumsy but it's not synonymous with being a mum!)

PammieDooveOrangeJoof · 03/10/2019 20:10

I think the third skirt looks great. Can you do a pic from the side as I think the shoes look better but it’s hard to tell straight on.

Atalune · 03/10/2019 20:11

Option 3 for sure with the black boots. Very chic.

Not loving the black flat shoes, but can see how they are comfy!

Love the green skirt in option 2 but the belt isn’t quite right...maybe try it without?

Loveoddthings · 03/10/2019 20:11

100% 3

PeachMelba78 · 03/10/2019 20:12

Thanks! Shoes are both from Office, same shoes different colours.
I know flat pointy shoes are not de riguer but I like them and they are very comfy

I vote #3 too! Think I’d just go with the boots and not be faffed with changing though.

PullingMySocksUp · 03/10/2019 20:12

3 with the boots.

Loveoddthings · 03/10/2019 20:14

I know some people don't like the term mumsy but it's not synonymous with being a mum

I know. It’s like “dad dancing”. You don’t “need” to be a dad for someone to joke that your dancing is a bit “dad dancing”. Read silly awkward dancing.

Likewise you don’t “need” to be a mum for someone to describe an outfit as a bit. Read safe and sensible.

Sagradafamiliar · 03/10/2019 20:14

Oooh yes, number 3. Your job sounds really exciting!

PeachMelba78 · 03/10/2019 20:14

I can only upload 3 pictures a day!
I would always wear the shoes in the day, my workplace is super conservative, even in London but I like the look of the boots for the Guardian event - but I have never been to a Guardian event, let alone spoken at one! I usually speak at daytime conferences - that’s an easier dress code.

I have to say I think the proportions look odd with flat boots - with a pleated midi I'd say switch to either heeled boots or trainers for the evening.

Thatnovembernight · 03/10/2019 20:16

All nice but 3 is the winner - have a great evening!

PeachMelba78 · 03/10/2019 20:17

TBH I am safe and sensible and I am OK with that, I do conservative dressing very well!
I will concur with number 3, but I will be changing footwear, as I explained earlier.

Definitely outfit three. Good luck!

Oh and where's that skirt from. Love it.

PeachMelba78 · 03/10/2019 20:18

Sagrada my main job is not very exciting although high profile in my company.

My ‘other’ job is more exciting - I run a U.K. wide network for LGBT women in the workplace, and that’s what I will be speaking about.

PeachMelba78 · 03/10/2019 20:20

Dinos fair enough - the boots aren’t flat actually but I wouldn’t wear trainers to the event - that’s too casual for me personally.

PeachMelba78 · 03/10/2019 20:22

Metoo the skirt is from Primark last December. I bought it when I was 8 months pregnant as my ‘goal skirt ‘ as I had a speaking event 6 weeks postpartum. It was the Stacy Solomon collection, which is really embarrassing but I always get compliments on it and I wear it loads!

3!

Hope the talk goes well!

PeachMelba78 · 03/10/2019 20:24

Thanks Loopy TBH I do a lot of talks and it’s always my outfit that stresses me out the most! I know the topic like the back of my hand so I am really looking forward to it - I love public speaking too!
