What cut jeans for AW 2019?

Are skinnies still ok? (I'm thinking high waisted, slim skinny, rather than skin-tight skinny.)

I absolutely am not on board with the barrel leg cut I've seen in a few places and I can't carry off the mom-style. While I'm happy in boyfriend cut for the spring and summer, I just feel a bit untidy in it for autumn and winter - too much bagginess. And I'm wearing wide-leg jeans today and feel utterly ridiculous.

The jeans you have will be fine. There is absolutely no need to buy new things every season because the trends have changed. If you've found something that you like the look of and is comfortable stick with it.

catalystc · 03/10/2019 11:38

Stop buying unnecessary stuff, if it's not broken or I'll fitting just wear it. The planet will thank you for not being a sheep.

catalystc · 03/10/2019 11:39

ill fitting

Sparklyring · 03/10/2019 11:57

I will always love skinnies! I'm currently wearing them rolled up with ankle boots and a chunky cowl neck jumper Smile

Snog · 03/10/2019 12:07

Agree stick with what suits you.
Wearing unflattering yet fashionable jeans is a trap not to fall into!

FiddleFigs · 03/10/2019 12:17

I've gone up a dress size since last AW, so do need winter weight jeans. Previous to that I hadn't bought any for about 5 years, which is why I feel a bit out of touch.

But thanks for all the judgement - Mumsnet at its best!

I think I might be overthinking it as I have put on weight so just not sure what looks good and what looks broadly fashionable.

I didn't want to fall into the trap of buying some new jeans (first new pair of skinnies in ages) only to find that come January, I feel a bit out of fashion.

Think I'm coming across rather prickly - sorry about that!

A straight leg is very stylish and can also look smart so I’d try some of those on in different makes/shops to find the right ones for you.
Skinnies are really dated and passé now.

Sooverthemill · 03/10/2019 12:56

Wear what you want but if you need to buy new jeans try slim straight ( or 'girlfriend') style. Very versatile

Shitonthebloodything · 03/10/2019 13:20

No idea why there's the need for budget comments on the s&b boards! Surely this is the place to celebrate a bit of frivolity.
Anyway, op wear what you want. I'm seeing lots of boot cut around this year and personally I think they belong in the past where we left them. Straight or a more relaxed skinny seen to be the thing if you aren't into the mom style.
I still like skinny skinnies so I can tuck them into biker/military boots. Some people think they look dated but in real life everyone is still wearing them and they look fine.

Shitonthebloodything · 03/10/2019 13:21

Budget comments?! Obviously meant judgey. Bloody phone.

treeofwhispers · 03/10/2019 19:08

I have kept hearing that skinnies are passé for years! But I like them, the shops are full of them and all the young things round here still wear them so they absolutely are still in fashion!Grin

I tried some straight legged cords on today but did not buy them. They were nice enough, beautiful colour but when I put the jeans I was wearing back on I preferred them. So why spend the extra money?

RingtheBells · 03/10/2019 19:43

I always wear straight leg as they are what suits me best, I would go and try various styles on to see what suits best.

Bubblesintheair · 04/10/2019 20:27

It might be worth trying a different pair of mom jeans. I had a next pair and they look dreadful. Ended up charity shipping them after one wear. However enter the high waisted sculpting mom jeans from New Look and they look super flattering. Wore them today with a mustard cropped top (sits on waist no actual skin being revealed) legs rolled up with olive green Chelsea boots from Primark. I thought it looked nice anyway 😆

raisinseverywhere · 04/10/2019 22:54

Strange to criticise op for asking on style and beauty board what type of jeans people recommend she buy. Surely the whole board is full of posters discussing clothes, makeup, trainers, shoes etc?

raisinseverywhere · 04/10/2019 23:12

Anyway, I think skinnies are still fine, but a slightly looser fit and not too skin tight. I’m going to buy some new jeans this autumn and will probably go for a slim fit ankle length.

DrFoxtrot · 04/10/2019 23:21

I bought these H+M girlfriend jeans and I've been very pleased with them. And I'm a skinny devotee. m2.hm.com/m/en_gb/productpage.0724905008.html

Really like the look of those H&M ones.

DerbyRacer · 05/10/2019 14:00

I am in the exact same situation as you op. I have put a little weight. Usually wear skinnies in winter and boyfriend/girlfriend in summer. Last winter started with skinnies but moved onto straight. This year I am planning to wear girlfriend with ankle boots but not sure if It will feel smart enough so also thinking of wide leg trousers instead of jeans for some days.

BubblesBuddy · 05/10/2019 14:40

I think you should buy what fits and what you like. Lots of jeans this season are cut offs. Not full length. Mom fit, straight or skinny are just fine. Wear with ankle boots of your choice. Zara has a good variety of current styles. They are usually spot on each season.

Shazbagz · 15/10/2019 20:24

Defo try New Look as so many shapes. I love all the high waisted ones as no muffin top - yay!

SymbollocksInteractionism · 15/10/2019 20:49

I have these. Cheap and look good on.

I drove through my university town this morning and out of hundreds of young people I saw, I would say at least 90% were in skinny jeans or sports style leggings.

Pliudev · 16/10/2019 00:03

If you've put a bit of weight on (and I have) the problem is what you wear on top. Skinnies look great with a longer top but wide jeans really need something quite short and fitted on top. At least that's what I think. I like the straight ones I've seen.
