What cut jeans for AW 2019?

Are skinnies still ok? (I'm thinking high waisted, slim skinny, rather than skin-tight skinny.)

I absolutely am not on board with the barrel leg cut I've seen in a few places and I can't carry off the mom-style. While I'm happy in boyfriend cut for the spring and summer, I just feel a bit untidy in it for autumn and winter - too much bagginess. And I'm wearing wide-leg jeans today and feel utterly ridiculous.

I'm wearing spray on skinnies today. Yesterday I was wearing ultra low rise bootleg cut jeans. Both with woolly jumpers.

I must be a fashionistas nightmare.

Everyone near me is wearing slim leg/cropped.

I've seen one person wearing bootcut/flares but didn't think they looked good. They're just not practical in the wind and rain (they act like sails and when it's wet, they get wet and dirty.

I still think slim leg tucked into boots looks great, whether they're ankle boots, calf, knee or thigh (no heels though).

Mud Jeans lease jeans to you, so you don't have to buy! Such a great, eco friendly idea. You can try out all the cuts and if you need a different size, you can swap them. Genius.

I agree with all the comments above - wear what you want / what suits, don't worry about fashion etc etc. I (being over 60) still wear skinnies but favour slim straight legged - I find they are more "my age" for want of a better description - and you can still wear flats, boots, loafers, ballerina pumps etc etc with them. I do however, much prefer the high waisted jeans - so so comfortable to wear. I am not a fond lover of bootleg though. Just a personal opinion

Imam noticing more and more people changing the typical silhouette recently.
Far more wider leg crops and mum jeans.
I do think these looks are less flattering in general and really hard to style in winter. Love them in warmer months though as you can choose any footwear and don’t have to worry about harsh weather or what coat to match with.

I don’t think young people really define what style is nowadays.
In fact it seems the opposite to me now - marketing is going full pelt at attracting older women. I think the over 30’s are spending much more and more keen to follow trends.

Most younger women I’ve seen recently are still in skinny jeans or leggings. A few in mum jeans, but that’s that.

I am seeing more women of all ages in midi skirts.

I spend a lot of the year in Lake District and love how the Japanese and Chinese women visitors dress. Loose, flowing lines with big maxi coats and docs.

Noting will get me out of my winter day uniform of skinnies, oversized cashmere jumper, big scarf and biker boots

I like Mom jeans or boyfriend jeans in the summer as I prefer to wear them with light pumps or sandals. Not so keen in winter as I don't think they lend themselves very well to winter shoes. Also finding high waisted jeans that are flattering is actually quite tricky - I used to assume high waisted would be flattering but actually I think they emphasise my mum tum.
I think skinny and slim fit jeans are fine - I'm still wearing both, I prefer a slim fit personally and wear them slightly turned up with boots or trainers.

ConFusion360 · 17/10/2019 20:10

I've never found a pair of flattering high waisted jeans. All the ones I've tried made my bum look enormous in a fairground mirror sort of way.

Ohyesiam · 17/10/2019 20:19

What’s the name for the wide legged very cropped jeans?

Sallygoround631 · 18/10/2019 12:21

i think it’s true that baggier jeans and high waists do create the illusion of curviness. I’ve seen a lot of young women in high waist mum jeans and they do look ‘bigger’.

But

So what? Perhaps we ought to quit trying to idealise looking ‘tinier’.

Clothing does affect how our proportions appear, I think high waist denim chops my torso in half unflatteringly as I’m high waisted anyway. They make my belly look much more rounded even if it’s flat.

I think it depends on personal taste.

I saw a very fashionable looking mum at a sports thing the other day with long, widish jeans that broke over the top of her trainers iyswim

She looked really cool but she was very thin!
